Chapter 795 I've Already Let Go
Antonio's cold voice echoed in the ward.
If someone didn't know better, they might think he and Harold were very close.
But Antonio's true purpose was to make him suffer. How could he just die peacefully after doing so many bad things?
At that moment, the assistant walked over. "Mr. Valencia, we found the drug."
Antonio had been instructing people to find a drug that, when injected, could induce hallucinations, forcing one to confront their worst inner fears and live forever in their most terrifying memories.
When he first learned about this drug, he thought it was tailor-made for Harold.
"Larry."
Larry turned around, looking at his inscrutable face. "What?"
"As his son, I should let the doctor use the last of the medicine on my dad before he's taken away, right?" Antonio's eyes held a deep meaning that no one could understand.
He had just been saying they must do everything to save Harold, so Larry didn't suspect he would do anything irrational. "Of course, there's no problem."
The assistant nodded and turned to leave.
Soon, Harold was injected with the special drug. It wouldn't endanger his life but would make him live in fear and pain every day.
Thinking of that scene, Antonio finally felt a bit of relief.
"Let's take him back now." Larry saw his colleagues had already wheeled Harold out the door and turned to say, "If you have any other matters, we can always contact you by phone."
It wasn't until the police left that Antonio's heavy heart felt slightly lighter. He focused and said, "Back to the hospital."
He still had to discuss the chip issue with Timothy.
Downstairs, there weren't many pedestrians.
But everyone passing by looked around curiously and whispered.
"Why is there flour everywhere?"
"Yeah, it looks like it fell from above."
"Could it be that someone's flour expired?"
Some particularly curious people even picked up a bit from the ground, sniffed it, and confirmed, "It really is flour. I wonder who is so wasteful."
Antonio paused, his gaze sweeping around.
It was indeed flour. The things he said earlier were just to break Harold's psychological defenses. Carter's real ashes had already been sent back to the Capital City and buried in the best cemetery.
He wasn't a lunatic like Harold; how could he scatter Carter's ashes himself?
From now on, Carter had nothing to do with Harold.
Antonio closed his eyes briefly, hiding the emotions in his eyes, and got into the car.
His long fingers loosened his tie, and he leaned casually in the back seat, his stern face showing a bit of fatigue.
He was finally going to say goodbye to Harold.
Antonio took a deep breath, the indescribable suffocation in his heart easing a bit. The prolonged tension had put him in a state of high stress.
Suddenly solving a big problem left him feeling exhausted.
He unknowingly fell asleep.
In his dream, Antonio sat on a park bench with Carter, whom he had rarely seen since childhood.
She was full of gentleness, embodying all his fantasies about his mother. She gently patted his forehead like he was a child.
"Antonio, you are the best son in the world. I'm sorry for leaving you to suffer alone without your permission, but Antonio! I also want to thank you, thank you for everything you've done for me."
"Mom." Antonio's lips moved, wanting to say something, but his throat felt blocked and uncomfortable.
Looking at the gentle and beautiful Carter in front of him, his heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, making it hard to breathe.
Carter was still smiling, seeming to know what Antonio wanted to say.
"It's okay, it's all in the past." She pointed to the falling sycamore leaves in front of them. "Leaves have to fall to grow new buds. Everything goes in cycles. I've let go, so Antonio, you need to let go too and live well."
Antonio's tightly closed eyes were red, and after a long time, a tear finally fell.
When he woke up, he was still a bit dazed, staring at the rapidly retreating scenery outside the window, feeling like a lifetime had passed.
He didn't know if this was Carter, whom he had never met, saying goodbye to him.
But it seemed to be the closest he had ever been to Carter in nearly thirty years, and also the last time.
It took a while for his fluctuating emotions to calm down.
He took out his phone and dialed Sarah's number.
Sarah had just left home. Mary had already gone to the hospital to accompany Cynthia, and she was thinking of going to the mall to buy some new daily necessities. She had just gotten into the car when she received Antonio's call.
"Why are you calling me now? Have you eaten?" She wore a Bluetooth headset, her expression gentle.
Hearing her voice, Antonio's irritation instantly disappeared. "I've eaten. I have good news for you."
"What good news?"
"Harold has been found. Larry has already taken him back to the police station. No one will disturb our lives anymore, and he will pay for what he has done."
"Really?" Sarah's eyes lit up with joy. "Does that mean you can come back soon?"
The couple had been apart more than together recently. Now that Harold was caught, everything was settled, and nothing bad should happen again, right?
Thinking of this, she felt a wave of relief. "We promised to take the kids out before. We can finally go. Where do you think we should go first?"
Antonio listened to her cheerful voice, but his brow slowly furrowed, and a look of pain flashed in his deep eyes. "Sarah, not yet."
Sarah's voice paused.
She seemed puzzled. Wasn't Harold's matter already resolved? "Why not yet? You don't have something else you're hiding from me, do you?"
This was clearly a joke from Sarah, but it hit Antonio's most guilty spot.
"No." Antonio tried to make his tone sound normal, forcing a light laugh. "What are you thinking? Of course, it's about the Harrington Group."
"Harold hasn't managed the company for a long time. Now that he's caught, I can't just do nothing. After all, there are so many employees waiting for their salaries."
"And an important business partner is coming to inspect the day after tomorrow, so I have to stay for two more days."
Sarah nodded thoughtfully. "That indeed can't be ignored."
Although Harold was a complete villain, the company's employees were innocent.
She sighed. "Then you should focus on your work. Don't worry about home; I've got it covered."
Listening to her soft voice, Antonio felt like his heart was filled with honey, but there was also an indescribable bitterness.
