Chapter 619 My Husband Was Dead

The gardener trembled in fear, and answered, "Downtown Hospital."

Benjamin didn't say much more. He was certain that something was wrong with Sarah's health, so he quickly got into the car and left.

The gardener stood there for a while, pondering, and suddenly realized with a start!

He had been feeling so familiar just now!

That man looked so much like the deceased master of this house!

No, it should be said that they were identical!

Benjamin was unaware of the gardener's thoughts. He drove to the hospital, speeding up along the way, weaving through the congested traffic on the overpass, and showcasing his driving skills to the extreme.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Sarah lay dazed on the hospital bed, with the children sitting by, all in low spirits.

Bob sighed inwardly and poured her a glass of water.

"Ms. Miller, would you like to join us for a meal?" he asked. "It's not good for you to lie here like this all the time."

Sarah didn't even move her eyes, speaking in a flat tone, "I'm not hungry. Please take them out for a meal. I appreciate your help."

The fact that she was willing to speak was a good sign.

Bob hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed, "Alright, you rest well. Everything will be better after a good sleep."

Sarah turned her head away as she replied, "Okay."

The children obediently followed Bob out of the ward.

As soon as she heard the door close, Sarah felt a wave of relief, and tears flooded out uncontrollably. She didn't want the children to worry, so she had been holding on all day.

But now that things had come to this, what could she do?

There was nothing she could do.

If it weren't for the children, Sarah would have wished to leave with Antonio, but she couldn't.

She had to live on to raise the children.

The thought of Antonio being truly gone tore her heart to pieces, making it hard to breathe.

In this pain, Sarah drifted off into a daze.

It was at this moment that Benjamin arrived at the hospital, inquiring about Sarah's room number at the nurse's station.

He easily found the room, pushed the door open, and saw Sarah sleeping soundly on the hospital bed.

Her pale face almost blended with the pure white bedding.

A sudden calmness washed over him, and he carelessly thought of the sleeping beauty in a fairy tale.

She was devoid of the usual aloofness and resistance towards him, and her quietness now comforted Benjamin.

But he wished she was a bit more lively in this peaceful way. Regardless, he wanted to see her well.

Benjamin quietly closed the door, walked to the bedside, and sat down.

Sarah was deeply asleep. Her furrowed brow evoked a sense of compassion from him, making him want to smooth it out with his hand.

He reached out involuntarily.

Before his hand could touch her fair skin, Sarah, restless in her sleep, seemed to be caught in a nightmare. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead, and her hands flailed about.

"No, please don't go!" she yelled in her sleep.

Benjamin paused for a moment, his hand already instinctively holding hers.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here," he assured her, in an unexpectedly gentle voice.

He didn't know what Sarah was experiencing in her dream, but having dealt with similar situations in the cave before, he softly reassured her.

"I won't go anywhere, I'm here with you," he repeatedly reassured her while she dreamt.

He thought it would take a while for her to wake up.

But in the blink of an eye, Sarah woke from her deep slumber, her eyes snapping open, the despair evident in her red eyes as they met the white ceiling, filled with hopelessness.

She quickly regained her senses, casting a cold gaze at the man sitting by the bed.

As she pushed his hand away, her lips parted, saying, "It's you again."

Benjamin frowned at her, tears still on her face, but her demeanor was icy and numb.

While she had been distant before, she had never been this cold.

Cold as a machine.

Despite his shock, Benjamin's voice grew heavy, and he tried to gently ask, "What's going on with you?"

Sarah turned away, her vacant eyes not focusing on anything, her voice still flat as she replied, "Nothing."

Except that her beloved, her husband, would never return.

He was dead!

The thought of it brought a wave of heartaches; even Benjamin, sitting beside her, could feel it. So, instead of addressing her attitude, he asked, "You can tell me anything; I'll help you."

The feeling of having everything under control made Sarah feel ridiculous.

Help!?

It sounded so easy.

If only it could be solved. If Antonio could come back, she would pay any price.

But there was no chance.

He would never return!

Sarah closed her eyes, feeling a sense of futility, and coldly exclaimed, "Who do you think you are? I don't need your help with my affairs!"

Benjamin chuckled at her attitude.

"I asked if you needed help out of kindness. Your attitude, Ms. Miller, towards a partner is quite surprising!" he lightly teased.

Partner Harrington Group, Benjamin.

As he brought up work matters, Sarah regained some of her composure, biting her lip hard, reminding herself countless times of this person's identity, and finally calming down.

"Alright, Mr. Harrington. I don't need any help, so can you leave now?" she impatiently replied.

Benjamin's dark eyes locked onto her who was still lying on the hospital bed, and retorted, "You're kicking me out! Do you think I'm someone you can command?"

"No." Sarah's hands under the covers clenched tightly together, her face calm as she explained, "But in my current situation, I can't discuss work with Mr. Harrington. Besides, I'm no longer in charge of this project. If you have any issues, go find Bob."

Her tone with a hint of indifference erected an invisible barrier. She admitted that she didn't want to deal with this project anymore and let Bob take charge.

Benjamin disliked this sense of boundaries, feeling an unprecedented anger rising within him.

He lazily leaned back in his chair, a rare hint of defiance in his smirk, and stated, "I'm not leaving. What can you do to me?"

He wanted to see what Sarah could do.

Sarah didn't expect him to say that. A moment of confusion in her red eyes followed by a bitter smile and a sigh.

"It's meaningless for Mr. Harrington to put me in such a difficult position," she helplessly replied.

She really didn't want to oppose Benjamin anymore. Everything was over now. Benjamin wasn't Antonio, and Antonio was dead.

So, apart from work, they should not cross paths any further.

She might as well be direct about it.

Sarah bluntly said, "My husband is dead."
