Chapter 913 Is He Suspicious?

"Then promise me, you must take good care of yourself. Call me anytime if anything happens. The kids are all well-behaved. If worst comes to worst, I'll come to Northwest Ridge to be with you." The more Sofia spoke, the more heartbroken she felt, tears streaming down her face, but she continued to give instructions. "If you feel bad, don't bottle it up. Call me and tell me. If you really feel terrible, just vent on Antonio. In short, you are the most important! Do you hear me?"

Listening to her voice, Sarah felt her heart soften, her eyes reddening as she earnestly promised, "Got it, Sofia. I promise to stay healthy and appear in front of you!"

The two shared a knowing smile and burst into laughter.

After hanging up, Sarah let out a long sigh of relief. The gloom in her heart seemed to have lifted considerably.

She looked out the window; the sky was clear and serene.

The sun was already out; everything would pass.

After a while, she picked up her phone again and opened the countless unread messages from Antonio.

Antonio: [Sarah, my surgery was successful. I just got my phone. Did the nurse tell you? Don't worry about me. I'm fine now and will recover soon.]

Antonio: [The nurse said you're doing various therapies every day. You're amazing! In a couple of days, you'll be up and about and can eat lots of delicious food. Just hang in there for now. You're the best.]

Antonio: [Sarah, I miss you so much.]

Antonio: [Therapy must be tiring, right? But I couldn't help but message you. If you're tired, don't worry about replying. It's not good to look at your phone too much while you're still recovering.]

Antonio: [Sarah, hang in there. We'll see each other soon!]

According to the normal timeline, she would finish her postpartum therapy in two days. What excuse could she use to keep it from him then?

Sarah read the messages over and over, feeling her heart swell with mixed emotions, laughing and crying at the same time, yet filled with worry.

Antonio hadn't even fully recovered himself, yet he was only concerned with comforting and encouraging her.

Sofia called her silly, but wasn't Antonio the same?

She loved him so much, just as he loved her.

Sarah took several deep breaths, trying to calm the fluttering in her chest, then began to worry about how to keep this from Antonio for the next few days.

Antonio was strong and had been through so much without any major issues. From his tone, he seemed to be recovering well. He might be up and about soon.

But she needed a few more days to recover.

With Antonio's sharp mind, ordinary excuses wouldn't fool him.

Sarah scratched her head, feeling a surge of frustration.

She hadn't come up with a plan when two days quietly passed. Early in the morning, she received another message from Antonio, asking if she could come see him.

She wanted to go, but her body wouldn't allow it.

Sarah bit her lip, her mind racing to come up with a way to tell him. After a long time, she finally thought of a not-so-great excuse that might just fool Antonio.

She took a couple of deep breaths and dialed Antonio's number.

He answered almost immediately. "Sarah!"

Antonio's excitement was palpable in his voice as he bombarded her with questions, "Is your therapy done? How are you feeling now? You should be back to normal, right? When can you come to see me? I miss you so much!"

Hearing his voice, Sarah's expression softened. "You're asking so many questions at once. Which one should I answer first?"

Antonio's deep, pleasant laugh came through, and he realized he was being a bit silly, "Then answer the first one."

"Yes, therapy is done. I'm feeling pretty good now, full of energy, almost back to normal." She answered several of his questions in one breath but deliberately avoided the last one.

After a pause, she said, "But I might not be able to see you right now. I'm actually outside. I just met with the police. They said there was some news about Eden. I'm planning to go check it out myself."

"Really?" Antonio was excited about the news of Eden but quickly realized the implication of her words, "Sarah, what do you mean you're going yourself? Won't you wait for me?"

They hadn't even seen each other yet! Was Sarah planning to leave him behind?

"You're still recovering." Sarah felt a bit guilty and continued, "You need to rest. If I find Eden, we can reunite as a family."

"But we've been apart for so long. Don't you miss me? And I don't feel comfortable with you going alone." Antonio frowned, "Sarah, can you wait for me for two more days? Once I'm able to move around, I'll go with you to find Eden. It's been a month; Eden might have grown a bit by now."

Sarah felt a pang of sadness hearing his voice.

If only there really was news about Eden.

But there wasn't. It was just an excuse she made up to placate Antonio.

She held back her tears, trying to keep her tone light, "Exactly, that's why I need to find her quickly. What if we miss the best chance to get her back? Besides, even if you can get out of bed, you shouldn't be running around."

"Don't worry, it will only take three or four days. I'll be back soon. Waiting for you for two more days would just waste time."

Sarah's words seemed reasonable, and Antonio sighed, "Alright, but can you come to see me first before you go? It's not urgent, right? Please, Sarah?"

He really missed her.

"Come on, don't be so clingy." Sarah gently coaxed him, pretending to be in a hurry, "I don't have time to come back. The place the police found is in the countryside. If I'm late, there won't be any transportation. I need to hurry."

Antonio was silent for a moment, then hung up.

Sarah was puzzled, wondering if Antonio was angry.

Before she could react, her phone started vibrating again. To her surprise, Antonio was calling her on a video call!

'Is he suspicious? Why is he suddenly video calling?' She thought.

Sarah was momentarily at a loss, hurriedly sitting up in bed, accidentally pulling at her wound, wincing in pain.

The phone kept vibrating persistently, not stopping!

Sarah gritted her teeth, her eyes darting around quickly. She had no choice!

She could get out of bed, but walking was difficult and painful.

Fortunately, there was a wheelchair by the bed. She struggled to get out of bed and into the wheelchair, quickly wheeling herself to the balcony. She tidied her hair before answering the video call, holding the phone at a very low angle, creating a strange perspective.

From her chin upwards, only her neck and head were visible, with the blue sky as the background.

Her earlier excitement had brought a flush to her cheeks, and the angle created the illusion that she was walking.

Antonio, who had intended to ask why she took so long to answer, forgot his question upon seeing the scene. He frowned and said, "Sarah, why aren't you wearing a hat?"
