Chapter 230 Sarah Defends Asa Once Again...
Witnessing Asa speak ill of Antonio in front of Sarah, Ryan hurriedly explained, "It's not like that. There must be some misunderstanding. Normally, Daddy has always been respectful towards Harper's Mommy!"
Disapprovingly, Asa glanced at Ryan and remarked, "You just said it yourself. He's only respectful in normal circumstances. Does that mean he can disrespect people in certain situations?"
He seemed to be fervently defending Sarah.
Ryan wanted to say more in defense of his father, but now he was left speechless. He bit his lip uncomfortably.
The atmosphere became somewhat tense for a moment. Sarah held back her tears. She was unwilling to cry in front of the children and Asa.
Coincidentally, Antonio returned at that very moment and saw Asa trying to create a rift between himself and Sarah.
"What's this? Mr. Donat interferes in my personal affairs, and that's supposed to be respectful?"
Unexpectedly, Antonio abruptly grabbed Asa’s arm and tried to push him back, leaving Asa feeling somewhat embarrassed.
He immediately stood up, freeing himself from Antonio's grip.
"I only came to check on her because I heard her crying. I won't disturb you further," Asa said, turning to leave, but Antonio suddenly grabbed hold of him.
"What's the rush? You came already, but now you want to leave so quickly? Mr. Donat, feeling guilty about something?"
Antonio's piercing and slightly provocative gaze met Asa's, emanating a powerful sense of oppression. As their eyes locked, it felt as if sparks were flying.
With displeasure, Asa furrowed his brows, his expression turning dark. "What nonsense is Mr. Valencia saying? Sarah and I are just friends. If I didn't want to cause her any unhappiness, I wouldn't have bothered to come in and offer comfort, would I?"
A deep sense of darkness flickered in Antonio's profound black eyes as the suppressed anger threatened to burst forth. He forcefully grabbed Asa by the collar, his gaze warning as he threatened, "I'll remind you one last time! Stay away from her!"
Asa refused to back down, showing no signs of weakness. "What if I refuse? I didn't know Mr. Valencia had the authority to restrict other people's friendships! Or perhaps, is this how you show love? By confining someone?"
His neck was tightly gripped, and his face began to turn red.
Sarah quickly stepped forward and forcefully pulled the two apart, placing herself between them.
"Antonio, let him go! This has nothing to do with him!"
As Sarah shielded Asa, Antonio's deep gaze seemed to plunge into an Antarctic ice cave, chilling to the bone.
"Step aside!" he barked with a threatening tone, but Sarah stubbornly remained in front of him.
She firmly said, "If you want something, come at me. Don't involve innocent people."
Sarah extended her fair arms, determination etched on her delicate face. It was as if Antonio keeping Asa from leaving today meant she would stand against him indefinitely.
Antonio's gaze suddenly dimmed as if something had taken away the sparkle from his eyes.
Knowing that Sarah was on Asa's side, he suddenly didn't have the energy to argue with Asa anymore.
Seeing Antonio's silence, Sarah quickly urged Asa to leave, giving him a reassuring glance.
Antonio took it all in and raised a self-mocking smile. This was the second time she had defended Asa right in front of him. He suddenly felt a dull ache in his heart, making it difficult for him to speak.
After Asa left, the room fell into an awkward silence, with no one saying a word. But it was getting late, and the guests had already started leaving. It wasn't appropriate for them to stay here any longer. Antonio had no choice but to take his family and leave.
In the car, everyone lowered their heads. The atmosphere was filled with heavy silence.
Harper glanced at the gloomy Antonio, feeling worried but wanting to lean in to ask him what was wrong at the same time.
However, as soon as she got closer to him, Ethan grabbed her arm and pulled her back, giving her a serious look before glancing at the distraught Sarah. He was warning her not to talk to Antonio!
Harper understood that Ethan was trying to protect Sarah and saw how sad and upset Sarah was. Like a deflated balloon, she had lost all her energy and didn't make any further moves.
Antonio noticed the children's small gestures and couldn't help but feel a sense of loss and melancholy.
Ryan noticed that he seemed hurt and quickly grabbed Antonio's hand, his eyes looking determined. Upon seeing his son comforting him, Antonio's expression slightly eased, but the shadow in his eyes remained.
…
The next day, Sarah went to work as usual, but they didn't speak to each other. Any work-related communication was purely professional, as if they were just colleagues.
Antonio watched Sarah take the files and leave without a word. His expression was gloomy, and the whole office seemed to be plunged into a solemn silence.
James stood at the office door, observing Antonio's seemingly bad mood, hesitating to go inside.
Sensing someone at the door, Antonio furrowed his brow. "What's the matter?"
James felt a headache coming on. "Ms. Jerrett is here."
