Chapter 600: Dad

Isabella didn't expect Benjamin to suddenly appear. After a moment of surprise, she smiled and explained, "The little guy probably just can't sleep. I was just telling him he should go back to rest."

Wasn't Benjamin in a bad mood?

She thought this man should have already gone to bed. Why did he suddenly come out?

Ethan looked at Benjamin and then at Isabella, a mischievous glint flashing in his eyes. He softly said, "Benjamin, Isabella said you're not in a good mood. If I disturb you, will you be unhappy?"

Benjamin frowned slightly, "No."

Actually, he just didn't really want to see Isabella. There was a strange feeling in his heart, a kind of inexplicable resistance that was hard to understand.

He glanced at Isabella, indifferent as usual.

Then he turned his head back with great patience, "Go ahead, what's the matter?"

Ethan still looked a bit uneasy. After hesitating for a while, he reached out and grabbed Benjamin's hand, "Benjamin, let's go outside to talk. We shouldn't disturb Isabella's rest."

The child's obedient and sensible demeanor warmed one's heart.

Isabella's face turned slightly red. She hadn't done anything inappropriate just now, but she still felt a bit guilty. She forced a smile, and said, "It's okay, I'm not going to sleep yet."

But Benjamin ignored her, pulling Ethan out of the room.

In the hallway, he asked very patiently, "Can you tell me now?"

Ethan nodded, then looked a bit embarrassed, stammering, "Benjamin, I'm a little scared to sleep alone. The room feels so empty. Can you sleep with me?"

He had thought it over and over again and still felt that he couldn't let Benjamin sleep with another woman.

When Dad regains his memory, he will definitely regret it!

And Mom would be very sad too.

"It's normal for you to be scared to sleep alone at your age." Benjamin said and patted his shoulder comfortingly, "But if you're scared to sleep alone, why not go to your mom?"

To his surprise, Ethan turned his head away even more awkwardly at these words.

"I can't go to Mom!" Ethan exclaimed.

Benjamin raised an eyebrow, and asked, "Why not?"

The more he looked at this mother and son, the more alike they seemed. Their personalities were quite similar too, both equally stubborn.

Ethan looked down at his little fingers, nervously twisting them together, not knowing what he was thinking. His little face turned redder and redder, "I can't break my promise!

"I already told Mom I would sleep independently. How can I suddenly go back on my word in the middle of the night?"

"Why can't you go back on your word?" Benjamin asked, looking at him with interest, wanting to tease the child, "Adults can't go back on their word, but kids can have some privileges in certain matters, like being scared to sleep alone."

"No way!" Ethan refused, stubbornly and angrily.

The little guy's face was red, but his attitude was firm.

Ethan explained, "I'm a man! I'm supposed to protect Mom! I already told her I'm a big kid! How can I ruin my heroic image in her eyes!"

His tone was strong and powerful, making Benjamin chuckle.

He had a point, leaving Benjamin speechless.

Without much thought, Benjamin's long fingers gently patted Ethan's head, the soft touch seeming to reach his heart, and said, "All right, then I will sleep with you, so the little man can maintain his heroic image."

Ethan thought Benjamin wouldn't agree, and was already thinking of other ways. Hearing this, he was overjoyed.

"Thank you, Benjamin! You're the best!" Ethan exclaimed.

As he spoke, he hugged Benjamin's neck. The two of them, holding hands, walked to the other end of the hallway, looking so harmonious as if this scene had happened countless times.

Isabella stood in place, listening to their conversation, feeling a sense of defeat.

She didn't understand why, despite all her efforts, Benjamin wouldn't even give her an extra glance, yet how was he so patient with a child?

Benjamin's personality was naturally cold and aloof; he couldn't possibly like children!

So why was this child an exception?

Suddenly, a woman's face flashed in Isabella's mind, somewhat resembling the little guy from earlier.

Yes, Sarah! Everything started to change when she appeared!

So, in the end, it was because Benjamin saw Sarah differently!

Sarah was a formidable rival, likely to take Benjamin away from her.

The distant figures grew smaller and smaller.

But it felt like a thorn, deeply embedded in Isabella's heart.

That night, Benjamin and Ethan slept in the same bed. Uncharacteristically patient, Benjamin told him many complex stories, which the little guy surprisingly understood.

Ethan was very content, not even knowing when he fell asleep.

He had forgotten how long it had been since he last heard his dad tell a bedtime story. He thought he would never hear it again.

Thinking of this, Ethan's eyes reddened, but he wiped away the tears himself, not letting Benjamin notice.

If he weren't so tired, Ethan would have wanted to stay awake all night.

Who knew if this was just another beautiful dream, and when he woke up, Dad would be gone again?

The next morning, Benjamin woke up first.

He only opened his eyes briefly before closing them again.

The weight in his arms wasn't much, a fluffy little head nestled against his chest, as if using him as a pillow.

His mind was still in a daze between dream and reality, and he instinctively hugged the little bundle in his arms a bit tighter.

Ethan, half-asleep, felt the warm, familiar chest he was hugging and unconsciously called out, "Dad."

The man's deep voice responded, "It's me."

Then, the room fell into an eerie silence.

Benjamin, who had been somewhat sleepy, was now wide awake. His eyes were clear, and his brows furrowed.

What had just happened?

He had actually responded to Sarah's son's calling out for "Dad"?
