Chapter 42 Almost Exposed

Ethan slapped a hand over Sarah's mouth, eyes darting around to make sure Antonio and James weren't tailing them. He leaned in and whispered, "Mom, Harper's gone with Michael. I'm here to grab the footage. Harper seems shady."

Knowing they were in Antonio's turf, Sarah grabbed Ethan and they made a quick exit. As they walked, Ethan filled her in, "Mom, I found the footage. It's in Antonio's office, locked up in a safe behind his desk."

Sarah's brow furrowed. "Harper said it was in Antonio's bedroom."

'Was Harper playing me?'

She didn't dwell on it. Knowing the exact spot was good enough.

Then Ethan dropped a bombshell.

"But the safe needs a fingerprint to open."

Sarah went quiet.

They exchanged a look and sighed together, feeling totally stuck.

Looked like she needed to get Antonio's fingerprint first!

With no other options, Sarah headed back to Antonio's villa.

This time, she came prepared with fingerprint tape and started a thorough search, like a detective on a mission. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't find a single clear fingerprint.

Whether it was on furniture, tableware, or Antonio's personal stuff, there wasn't a single usable print. The place was spotless!

After scouring the huge villa, Sarah felt deflated, like a balloon with a slow leak.

Then, she clenched her fists, her face set with determination. She had no choice but to take a risky move.

That evening, when Antonio got home, he immediately sensed something was off.

The villa was eerily quiet, no sign of Harper in the living room, and the usual stench of food that gave him a headache was gone. Instead, a mouth-watering aroma drifted from the dining room.

He walked in and saw Sarah coming out of the kitchen with a bowl of soup. Seeing Antonio, she gritted her teeth but forced a smile and said, "Mr. Valencia, I kinda lost it at the office today. Harper said she fell by accident. I felt bad, so I made you a meal to apologize."

Antonio narrowed his eyes, staring at Sarah for a few seconds. Seeing her face full of apology and submission, he glanced at the fancy meal on the table, his eyes darkening. "You made all this?"

Sarah's eyes flickered. "It's my first time trying new dishes. Mr. Valencia knows I can only cook one dish."

She stood by the table, hands in front of her, head bowed, looking just like any other maid.

But Antonio's gaze deepened with curiosity. His gut told him something was off with Sarah tonight, but he didn't call her out. Instead, he quietly took his seat.

Seeing a glimmer of hope, Sarah felt a surge of joy. She went ahead with her plan and poured a glass of wine for Antonio, saying, "Mr. Valencia, my bad for today. I was so anxious, I messed up. I hope you're cool with it."

She lowered her eyes, trying to hide the scheming glint in them. This wine wasn't just any wine; she had spiked it. One sip, and he'd be out like a light.

But this was Sarah's first time drugging someone, and she was a bundle of nerves. She forced herself to stay cool and steady her hands.

Under Antonio's intense gaze, she felt like a deer in headlights.

Antonio picked up on the flicker of emotion in Sarah's eyes, his gaze growing even darker.

She definitely had some hidden agenda. He decided to play along and see where this was going.

So, Antonio picked up the glass, pretended to take a sip, then glanced at her and casually asked, "Care to join me for a drink?"

Sarah's eyes flickered, but she kept her cool. "Sorry, Mr. Valencia, I don't drink."

Antonio's gaze deepened, and he said softly, "I remember you break out in hives when you drink."

His words hit Sarah like a ton of bricks.

She flashed back to the past, remembering how after drinking, she'd broken out in hives and felt miserable all night. Antonio had taken care of her, washing her and applying medicine.

She snapped back to reality, seeing Antonio still staring at her with that probing look. Afraid he'd see through her, she avoided his gaze.

"Mr. Valencia, you're being weird again. I can't handle alcohol, I go crazy when I'm drunk,"," she said, trying to sound casual.

Antonio didn't comment on her 'explanation.'

Feeling like she was about to be busted, Sarah quickly found an excuse to bail. "I'll go give Harper a bath now. Enjoy your meal, Mr. Valencia."

With that, she hurried upstairs.

Antonio watched her retreating figure, lost in his own thoughts, not snapping out of it for a long time.

Late at night, the villa was dead silent, and a slender figure moved stealthily through the dark hallway.

Sarah didn't even wear slippers as she crept towards Antonio's bedroom. She gently pushed the door open, holding her breath, listening for any sounds inside.

Hearing Antonio's steady breathing, she figured the drug must've kicked in, so she tiptoed inside.

By the bed, she stared at Antonio's face for a good half-minute, making sure he was out cold. Then she took out the fingerprint tape and quietly approached him.

She didn't dare breathe loudly, afraid of making any noise that might wake him up.

But of course, things never go smoothly. She hit her first snag.

Antonio had his hands tucked under the blanket while sleeping!

Damn it!

Sarah bit her lower lip, quietly approached, and lifted the blanket covering Antonio.

She lowered her head, carefully and seriously placing the tape on Antonio's hand.

With Antonio's breathing and her own heartbeat pounding in her ears, Sarah's heart raced as the tape neared his fingertip.

At that critical moment, Antonio suddenly rolled over, pinning her beneath him.
