Chapter 738 Why Is He Here Too?

"Totally!"

Mary shot back, then started thinking, "But when Cynthia showed up, I wasn't volunteering here yet, so I got no clue when she actually arrived."

She added, "All I know is, when I first met her, she was in way worse shape than now."

At least now Cynthia could talk to people.

She only sometimes drifted off into her own world.

But it wasn't always like that.

Mary remembered how Cynthia looked back then, feeling both sorry and heartbroken.

Back then, even though Cynthia was gorgeous, her mind was a mess. She cried every day, wouldn't talk, and was always freaking out and confused.

Hearing this, Sarah felt a knot in her chest.

She asked, "So... did she ever tell you anything once she got a bit clearer?"

Mary said, "You mean about Cynthia's past?"

"Yeah." Sarah thought about earlier when Cynthia saw her belly, the fear on her face was obvious. She must've gone through something awful.

Sarah asked, "Do you know if she had any kids?"

Cynthia, who was nearby, was lost in her own world again, happily playing by herself, wandering around the table.

Antonio watched her for a moment, then called over a waiter to give some instructions.

Only then did Mary and Sarah feel at ease and look away.

"Kids?" Mary seriously thought back to what Cynthia had said before and suddenly looked up. "I remember now! When Cynthia wasn't very clear-headed, she mentioned something about not killing her child. If I remember right, she said her child died in her womb."

Mary found it hard to keep talking.

She took a sip of water from the table before continuing.

"And it was because of someone."

Seeing Sarah's pained expression, Mary didn't know how to comfort her.

She could only continue, "But this still needs to be checked out. Sometimes Cynthia forgets what she said. Maybe she was talking about someone else's situation."

Actually, Mary didn't think so.

But in this situation, it was best to offer some comfort.

She knew that given Sarah and Antonio's status, they would dig into everything without her needing to say much.

Sure enough, Sarah's expression relaxed a bit.

She sighed in relief. "Thanks. We'll look into all this. In the meantime, please take care of Cynthia!"

Mary couldn't help but joke, "You've already thanked me like a million times already."

Sarah was taken aback, realizing it was true.

Mary said, "No need to be so polite. I take care of Cynthia because I want to help her."

Mary didn't want Sarah to feel too burdened. She added, "And also, I really like you."

Hearing that, Sarah said, "Then I won't be so formal with you." Sarah also liked Mary, so she suggested, "If you don't mind, we can be friends."

Mary's eyes lit up and she said excitedly, "Of course I don't mind!"

The two chatted happily for a while before Sarah stood up, saying, "I'm going to the restroom."

Antonio wanted to follow, but Sarah refused, "No need, you stay here and chat with Mary."

He had no choice but to watch Sarah walk into the restroom before looking away.

Then he kindly said to Mary, "Miss Smith, my wife is quite outgoing. I hope you don't mind."

Mary felt a bit awkward and embarrassed.

She held her water cup with both hands, saying, "I think Sarah's personality is great."

Antonio nodded, not really sure what to say, so he just kept quiet.

Mary was hoping Sarah would come back soon. She didn't know where to look, so she scanned the room and spotted Cynthia by a fish tank, watching the fish.

But what really threw her off was the guy sitting at the table next to the fish tank.

That guy!

Mary quickly looked away, hunching over like she wanted to disappear under the table.

'What are the odds?' Mary thought.

She covered her face, her mind racing, not noticing Antonio's puzzled look.

Actually, Antonio had noticed that ever since Mary glanced into the distance, she seemed uneasy, like something was up.

Thinking for a moment, he kindly asked, "Ms. Smith, is something wrong? Anything I can help with?"

Mary's face didn't look great, but she said, "Ah! No... I'm fine."

Antonio had no idea, but the man by the fish tank was her secret husband, Timothy Reed!

Timothy was her dad's favorite student, so before he passed away, he entrusted Mary to him. They hadn't been married long and hadn't made it public.

This was Timothy's request. Timothy loved someone else and was still chasing her, so he didn't want their marriage to be exposed!

But Mary hadn't expected to run into him here, having dinner with colleagues.

Mary was still flustered while Timothy had already noticed her.

After responding to a colleague, he glanced over and saw Mary at a nearby table, covering her face like she didn't want to be seen.

Sure enough, Timothy also saw Antonio across from Mary.

Seeing that, Timothy's vibe instantly turned icy, his eyes darkening.

His colleague seemed to sense something, suddenly rubbing his arms, asking, "Wow, why did it suddenly get so cold? Do you guys feel it?"

The other colleagues shook their heads, and he turned to ask Timothy, "Dr. Reed, are you cold?"

Timothy looked up at him, his eyes icy cold.

The colleague fell silent.

The rest also sensed the tense atmosphere but wisely said nothing.

Mary didn't know she had been noticed. She wanted to hide but kept glancing over occasionally.

Timothy sat at the edge, but his presence was hard to miss. His tall, cold figure was flawless, and his chiseled features looked like they were meticulously carved.

Those perfect angles made Mary's heart skip a beat.

Suddenly, Timothy turned his head, his sharp gaze meeting hers.

Mary realized she was caught.

She wanted to hide but felt it was pointless, biting her lip in frustration.

But Timothy just glanced at her and turned away, not greeting her or showing any other reaction.

Of course, with others around, he wouldn't show he knew her.

If he did, it would be hard to explain their relationship, given their secret marriage.

After a while, the group at the other table paid and left. She wasn't sure if it was her imagination, but Timothy seemed to pause slightly at the door, glancing back.

But he ultimately did nothing and walked away.

Mary didn't know if she felt relieved or something else, her heart feeling a bit empty.

Sarah returned at this moment, noticing the odd atmosphere but not finding anything unusual. She smiled at Mary, "Did you wait too long?"

Mary said, "No, Sarah, you should eat. The food's getting cold."

"Okay, you eat some too." Sarah planned to finish quickly to take care of Cynthia, so she didn't stand on ceremony and started eating. Antonio attentively served her food, occasionally asking softly.

Mary watched, feeling envious.

She wondered if she and Timothy would ever become a couple like that.
