Chapter 596 Is He Really Not Antonio?
Sarah ignored his anger and glanced at his left shoulder.
She had only wanted to see if he had a bite mark on his shoulder, but when she saw the skin on his back, she was left in disbelief.
His muscular and perfect back was covered in scars!
Not just his shoulder, but his entire back had a few unblemished spots.
The scars didn't look old; they seemed to be recent injuries, with some areas still faintly pink, as if the scabs had just fallen off.
Sarah forgot to breathe, finding it hard to believe.
What had this man been through?
Benjamin initially felt tricked, but seeing Sarah's stunned expression, he hesitated.
He picked up his shirt and quickly put it back on.
Over the past three months, Benjamin had come to terms with his hideous scars. Seeing Sarah's reaction didn't make him feel self-conscious; after all, she was a woman.
She must be scared by these terrifying scars.
Even Benjamin didn't like looking at them while bathing.
As he buttoned his shirt, he kept an eye on her expression. She seemed scared, standing still, her face blank.
This was the first time someone other than Benjamin had seen these scars.
Excluding when he was unconscious, since waking up, he hadn't shown his skin to anyone, not even his father or Isabella.
Whether out of pride or not wanting to worry them, Benjamin had never thought he'd be so open in front of a woman he'd only met a few times.
Was Sarah's reaction just fear?
For some reason, seeing her reaction, Benjamin felt a sudden wave of disappointment and even a bit of resentment.
This feeling came so suddenly, without reason, and he couldn't understand why he expected a different reaction from her.
What should it be?
Understanding? Sympathy?
Impossible.
Benjamin smirked self-deprecatingly and quickly dismissed the thought. He picked up his coat and coldly said, "Sarah, do you think it's fun to mess with me?"
He didn't expect her to say anything nice and was about to leave.
But as he looked up, he saw her eyes welling up.
Was she crying out of fear?
Benjamin froze, his steps halting.
Sarah's eyes grew redder, her nose turning pink, and her cheeks paling. Tears welled up in her eyes, eventually spilling over.
At that moment, all she could think of was Antonio.
She had witnessed the severity of the explosion.
Serene had lost her legs, her flesh torn apart.
If Antonio had survived, he must have been severely injured. Would his body be as scarred as this man's?
As severe as the man before her.
Due to her pregnancy, Sarah's emotions were amplified. Thinking of Antonio's possible injuries, she felt overwhelmed with sadness and pain, and she began to cry uncontrollably.
Benjamin frowned deeply, initially watching coldly, but as her crying intensified, he became increasingly helpless.
No matter how scary his scars were, they shouldn't make her cry like this.
Wasn't she usually fearless?
He took a deep breath and said, "Stop crying."
To Sarah, his voice was like a catalyst, making her cry even harder, her shoulders shaking as if she had suffered a great grievance as if she wanted to cry all her tears out.
The suppressed longing over the past few months surged.
She had no idea where Antonio was.
If he hadn't died, how much pain had he endured with all those injuries?
Benjamin pressed his forehead, feeling helpless. The courtyard echoed with her cries, making it seem like he had done something to her.
Oddly, Sarah's crying didn't annoy him.
"Stop crying," he said. Benjamin's voice softened. He took a step forward, standing in front of Sarah, looking down at her tear-filled eyes.
He hesitated, then gently wiped her tears, "You're a mom now. If those two little ones see you, will they learn from you?"
Sarah pondered, her wet lashes distinct.
She sniffled, the warmth from his fingers lingering on her face, bringing her thoughts back a bit, and leaving her in a daze.
Was this man really Benjamin?
Why were there so many coincidences?
He looked so much like Antonio, even in build. Antonio was allergic to pepper, and he disliked its smell. Now, even his injuries matched those from the explosion three months ago.
Was he really not Antonio?
Sarah's lips trembled, her throat tight, making it hard to speak. After a while, she adjusted her emotions and hoarsely asked, "How did you get those injuries? It must have hurt a lot, right?"
Benjamin, seeing she had stopped crying, felt a strange sense of relief.
He looked down at her tear-streaked face, feeling a renewed sense of warmth.
Benjamin cleared his throat and looked away, "I was in a car accident. The injuries were severe."
Sarah instinctively glanced at his shoulder, as if seeing the scars through the fabric, and the tears welled up again.
A car accident?
Was it really a car accident?
Sarah wanted to ask but felt it might be impolite. She changed her words, and asked, "Did it hurt?"
This was the first time in a long while someone had asked him that.
Benjamin realized she had cried out of sympathy for him, stunned by his scars, and cried like a baby.
His mood improved significantly, even felt a hidden joy.
The woman before him had cried for him.
Benjamin felt she was genuinely sad for him, wanting to comfort her, but he had no experience in such matters. He didn't know what to say.
Benjamin coaxed, "I'm fine. These injuries don't hurt anymore."
That didn't seem comforting.
Benjamin coughed, feeling annoyed with himself, his voice unintentionally gentle and coaxing, "Anyway, can you stop crying?" he requested,
After speaking, he felt awkward, his hand covering his mouth, his eyes avoiding hers, making him look a bit helpless, oddly endearing.
Sarah had never seen this side of him, and she burst into laughter.
Benjamin looked up, their eyes meeting instantly.
