Chapter 441 How did it reach forty degrees?

Victor was completely unaware that danger was approaching him. He arrived happily at the designated location set by Serene.

Currently, he had $200,000 in his pocket and was blissfully thinking about living carefree in another country in the future.

Since he had Serene as a scapegoat, he was not afraid of being caught by Antonio or being abandoned overseas with no one to help him.

Victor had even planned to find a foreign wife in the future, have multiple children to enjoy life, and, most importantly, have someone else raise his children.

What a beautiful dream.

Not to mention, although the task he took on was a bit challenging, the rewards were high!

However, as he continued towards the designated location, he couldn't help but feel that something was off.

The places he had lived before, although not bustling cities, at least ensured public safety. But looking around here, it was clearly a slum area.

Even $30 would go a long way in this place, let alone $200,000.

How could Serene possibly have informants here?

Victor became increasingly uneasy, and the surroundings became more and more desolate. There might even be people lying on the ground who had lost their breath.

'This doesn't seem right!'

Victor's mind sounded warning bells, prompting him to turn back. However, before he could react, he collided head-on with a black-clad man wearing a mask.

Victor barely had time to exclaim before he tumbled to the ground.

The black-clad man was fast, accurate, and ruthless.

In an instant, Victor spat blood from his mouth, with a dagger stuck in his abdomen, taking his last breath on the spot.

Victor never knew what the person who killed him looked like.

As for the people around, they seemed accustomed to such horrific incidents. After briefly glancing, their expressions numbly averted their gaze.

The black-clad man spat, "What a fool, still dreaming of overnight riches. You can sleep here in this grave!"

He squatted down to retrieve the bank card from Victor's body and was about to search for his phone when a sudden commotion erupted from behind.

Being cautious, he glanced over and knew that things were not looking good!

Running out of time, the black-clad man ran off. As he left, he even stuffed a dagger into the lifeless body beside him.

Before long, a well-trained group of people arrived on the scene.

Seeing Victor lying on the ground, lifeless, the leader gestured to Antonio and Sarah, who were rushing over. "Mr. Valencia, madam, maybe it's better for you not to come over for now."

Antonio frowned, and the bodyguards immediately surrounded the family, protecting them in the middle.

Although he was far away, he could already see that Victor was covered in blood and must have died. Antonio was irritated. "Where is this place?"

"This is a notorious mass grave in Country T, with deaths occurring here every day.

"Have you seen the people lying on the ground? Most of them are lifeless.

"Some were beaten to death in fights, while others starved to death without food. Basically, people die here in all sorts of ways."

Sarah was deeply shocked.

"There have been gang fights here these past few days, and the police are unwilling to intervene. This place is known as a lawless zone, where many people seeking refuge come to hide. I brought the body here for you to identify."

Victor's body was quickly brought before Antonio.

His death wasn't too gruesome, as it only took one knife to end his life.

However, his eyes remained open, staring emptily above. Coupled with his gaunt appearance, it was quite terrifying to see.

Sarah covered Brian's eyes, and Antonio naturally blocked her own vision.

"Search his belongings and find a place to bury him."

Antonio supported Sarah, asking her to turn away while he gave instructions to his men.

After everything was taken care of, his men handed the discovered items to him.

"There's nothing much, just a phone, but it's damaged. I don't know if it still works, and we didn't find anything valuable on his person."

"No bank cards or anything? After spending so much time in the casino, he must've had a fair amount of money on him," Brian said.

His men shook their heads. "There was nothing. And even if there had been, it would have been taken by the locals. If this phone weren't broken, it would probably have been stolen too."

Sarah felt a sense of panic in her heart. While Victor deserved to die, it was still unsettling to see such an outcome.

Brian and Antonio, both held her hands, comforting her with their eyes.

"Sarah, don't overthink it. Let's pack up and go back."

"That's right, Mommy. Besides, I think there's something suspicious about Victor's death. We only just tracked him down an hour ago, and when we rushed here, he was already dead," Brian said. "So, there must be many secrets behind his death that we need to investigate."

Antonio and Sarah agreed with Brian. Victor's death was indeed suspicious, and this matter became increasingly obscure.

Sarah nodded. "Yes, let's report it to the police first and get them involved. That way, we can find out if it was the nearby gangs' doing."

Soon, the three of them arrived at the police station. However, as the subordinates had mentioned earlier, the police showed little concern for the deceased individual, particularly in that neglected area where no one seemed to care.

The local police, bored out of their minds, finished their paperwork and wanted to send Antonio away.

Antonio wasn't initially so angry, but he erupted on the spot upon seeing their indifferent attitude.

"I've said it before, I want to find out the cause of his death, and you better give me a deadline."

The police didn't take it seriously at first, but when they saw the group of people Antonio had brought along, they were subdued.

They knew this matter wasn't so simple, especially since it involved someone like him.

They immediately filed a case and promised to investigate and provide results as soon as possible.

Antonio didn't say much more, and the group returned to the hotel.

At this time, Brady called to inquire about the situation.

Sarah briefly explained what had happened there, omitting some details.

"Well, you guys rest well and come back early. It doesn't seem safe there."

"Don't worry, bro," Sarah said, holding her own arm.

The mosquito bites from yesterday had become increasingly itchy. The ones here were especially severe, causing swelling that just wouldn't go down.

Antonio also noticed something unusual about Sarah. After ending the call, he promptly brought her a cup of warm water. "Sarah, are you okay? You don't look so good."

"Yeah, Mommy, your face is all flushed. Are you running a fever?"

She shook her head. "No way, right? Maybe I'm just tired from the day's activities and didn't get enough rest yesterday."

"Well then, get a good night's sleep. We'll rest here for the night and return home tomorrow. I won't book plane tickets; I'll arrange for a helicopter to pick us up directly."

Antonio thought that Sarah was feeling uncomfortable because she saw Victor' body and, coupled with exhaustion from the journey, she was tired.

She also attributed it to the fatigue of traveling and obediently lay down on the bed to rest.

Neither Brian nor Antonio disturbed her. The two of them were constantly analyzing who was behind Victor death. They were also arranging for a helicopter to fly in from their country.

Unexpectedly, Sarah, who had been sleeping peacefully, suddenly began vomiting. Simultaneously, her body temperature skyrocketed to approximately 40°C.
