Chapter 884 His Secret
Antonio came over and sat next to him, trying to adjust his tone, "It's not that it's impossible, but it shouldn't be so hasty. The role of a godmother is like a real family member, it's not something to decide so easily."
Although on the surface, Elara didn't seem to have any issues. But they just knew each other for a few days.
The most unpredictable thing in the world was the human heart, especially since there were still doubts about Elara. Why did Ryan become so trusting of her in such a short time?
But the other kids didn't. This wasn't normal.
Ryan, however, didn't understand at all. He felt isolated once again.
Why did none of his ideas get support from Antonio and Sarah? They weren't like this before!
And Harper, Ethan, Brian! They used to stand by him unconditionally. Why were they unwilling now just because of Elara?
"But I want to!" Ryan held back his tears, firmly standing his ground. "I like Elara. I want her to stay in our home forever. I even want her to be my godmother, or even my real mom!"
Sarah and Antonio's faces didn't look good. They felt hurt, and besides, recognizing a godmother was not a trivial matter; it was a lifelong relationship.
Antonio became more serious, "Ryan, we've been accommodating you enough. Do you plan to always disregard the bigger picture and insist on your ideas? Hmm?"
Antonio's final upward inflection carried a father's authority.
Ryan took a step back, reflexively looking at Sarah.
But the usually doting Sarah didn't speak up this time. Her expression was also very serious.
Sarah wanted to reach out to him but was avoided.
"Ryan, can we talk about this later?" She didn't speak too harshly, fearing to hurt Ryan's fragile heart.
But even so, Ryan felt a nerve struck.
He couldn't help but think of what Lisa said in the hospital and blurted out, "You won't agree in the future either, will you? You just don't want me to have my own mom!"
After saying that, Ryan was stunned. He didn't know why he said such things.
But since the words were already out, Ryan bit his lip hard, his eyes moist, and lowered his head.
Sarah was indeed stunned. She had always treated Ryan as her own child. How could she be such a bad mom in his eyes?
She wanted to say something but ended up saying nothing, closing her eyes and hoarsely saying, "I'm a bit tired, I'll go rest for a while."
After saying that, she didn't even acknowledge Antonio beside her and went upstairs on her own.
Harper, not far from Ryan, was almost furious!
She looked at Sarah's back and angrily scolded, "Ryan! How could you say that to Mommy? You're really too much!"
Ryan had done so many hurtful things, and Sarah never held it against him! But just kept getting worse!
Ryan's guilt grew heavier with Harper's angry voice, and his tears flowed more and more, "I..."
Before he could finish, Lisa came out of the room, her face full of concern. She first cautiously glanced at Antonio, then said, "What... what happened?"
"Ryan, can you stop crying, please?" Her eyes were full of concern as she wiped Ryan's tears, but they wouldn't stop, and Ryan cried even harder.
Lisa was very clear about her role now. She had been in the room earlier, so she should pretend not to know what had happened outside. Now seeing Ryan cry, she naturally comforted him.
"Mr. Valencia, should I take Ryan to his room to calm down? Letting him cry like this isn't good for his health." Her timid voice, every word she said was for Ryan's good.
She was entirely a positive figure.
Ryan seemed to find a safe harbor, tightly clutching her clothes.
Antonio frowned at her, his deep eyes carrying a hint of scrutiny, but ultimately he saw nothing and said in a deep voice, "Alright, go ahead."
This matter indeed wasn't suitable to continue discussing. It was better to let Ryan calm down first.
He sighed inwardly, gave the kids a few instructions, and went upstairs to comfort Sarah.
Once they left, the living room fell silent.
Harper was still crying, and Brian and Ethan quickly gathered around to comfort her.
Harper slapped the couch angrily, "I thought Ryan was just confused for a moment, but now it seems he's not just confused; he is out of his mind! I don't want to talk to him anymore!"
How did Ryan become like this? Ryan used to be so good, but now he was so unreasonable, always making Antonio and Sarah sad.
Francis heard about this when he came back in the evening. After washing up, he went to Ryan's room.
He was also at a loss with Ryan now, as they had been apart for so many years.
"Ryan."
Ryan was lying on the bed reading a picture book. Hearing the voice, he stiffened involuntarily, then turned around weakly, "Dad."
Francis tried to put himself on the same level as Ryan, "Can you tell me why you like Elara so much? Is it because she saved you?"
Ryan didn't speak, not because he didn't want to, but because he couldn't explain that strange feeling. It was like a reflex; anyone opposing Elara was his enemy! Only Elara made him feel satisfied.
Seeing him lower his head, Francis could only sigh. "I heard you want Elara to be your godmother?"
Ryan mumbled, "Yes."
"Your mom means that we shouldn't bring this up for now. If it really seems appropriate in the future, we can decide then. After all, Elara won't be leaving anytime soon."
"Is that really the case?"
"Yes." Francis patiently said, "Then the way you spoke to your mom today was completely wrong. You hurt her feelings again."
After he said this, Ryan's head almost buried into the blanket.
He seemed to vaguely realize his mistake but said nothing, not even showing any intention to apologize.
Francis frowned and continued to patiently talk for a long time.
But in the end, they didn't reach any conclusion.
Francis, feeling helpless, decided to find an opportunity to apologize to Sarah seriously. After all, as Ryan's biological father, he had an unshirkable responsibility for Ryan's lack of proper upbringing.
There was also another matter he needed to discuss with her.
The next morning, Sarah still didn't look well.
She sat alone on the living room couch, staring out the window, so much so that she didn't notice Francis approaching.
"Sarah." Francis, seeing her absent-minded look, apologized, "Sorry, did I scare you?"
"I'm fine." Sarah sat up straight and asked, "Francis, do you need something?"
"I do have something to discuss with you, but the living room isn't very convenient. The kids might come down and it could get noisy. How about we go for a walk outside?"
What he needed to say wasn't suitable for anyone in the house to know, so they had to talk outside.
