Chapter 979 Enough to Support You
This "ordinary person" clearly had a specific target in mind.
Della caught on immediately, her face turning sour, but she couldn't find the words to respond.
Her eyes flickered to the bottle of wine. It was indeed a 1990 Romanée-Conti, a single bottle of which had fetched an astronomical price at an auction a few years back. She never expected to see the real thing here with Everett today!
"Mr. Stevens is so wealthy and still chooses to be with Ms. Moore. She must be... so lucky!"
The last sentence was practically hissed through gritted teeth.
"How could it be?" Francis smiled slightly, leisurely taking a napkin to wipe Isabella's mouth, his eyes full of affection. "She's the woman I've loved for a long time. It took me ages to win her over. I'm the lucky one."
His words were sincere and heartfelt, his gaze so intense it seemed to burn.
Not just the onlookers, even Isabella almost believed it.
She couldn't say a word, only hearing her own heartbeat growing louder and faster.
One beat, two beats, heavy and intense.
Clea and Della watched the two of them exchange glances, feeling like they couldn't eat another bite.
Della took a deep breath and stood up.
"Sorry, I just remembered I have some unfinished work. I need to go."
She grabbed her bag and left without even glancing at the stunned Clea.
"This... she..."
Clea cursed under her breath, muttered a quick goodbye, and chased after her.
The restaurant suddenly fell silent, the atmosphere turning subtly ambiguous, a unique tension between a man and a woman beginning to brew.
Isabella's face unknowingly turned a shade of pink, her heart feeling like it was about to leap out of her chest.
"Um..."
She opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.
Francis looked at her, his gaze gentle and warm. "They're gone."
"Yes..." Isabella sighed inwardly at her own lack of composure. After a moment, she spoke, "Thanks for today. Even though I didn't plan to stoop to their level, it felt... pretty good to put on your exquisitely prepared show."
She couldn't help but laugh at herself.
Who knew she could be so childish?
Francis nodded in agreement, raising his glass to clink with hers. "Maybe people like that need this kind of interaction to see their stupidity."
Someone had to teach them a lesson.
Isabella took a sip and nodded in agreement.
"You're right. So if anyone disrespects me again... I'll teach them in my own way!"
Francis chuckled, his eyes twinkling like stars. "If the opponent is strong, your teammate here is always ready to back you up."
Maybe it was the wine, or perhaps the enchanting night.
Isabella felt a flutter deep within her, making her both anxious and captivated.
She quickly looked away, suddenly remembering something else. "Um... is Horizon Innovations Group really your company?"
"No."
"What?"
Francis couldn't help but gently tap her head. "How can you be so naive?"
Naive and adorable.
Isabella didn't say anything, just blinked, her eyes full of confusion.
His heart warmed, and he explained, "It's a friend's company. I just invested some money in it. I don't manage it, but I do get a nice dividend at the end of each year."'Enough to take care of you.'
He didn't say the last part out loud, but it naturally surfaced in his mind.
He thought that if Isabella were by his side for the rest of his life, he would give her anything she wanted.
As long as she wanted it, and he had it.
Francis and Isabella's relationship made some progress today, while over at the Valencia household, something equally amusing was happening.
Antonio and Sarah had planned to tell the kids about finding Eden when they got home.
But as soon as they walked in, they saw the kids in a noisy mess, with Harper occasionally sniffling.
Ryan stood nearby, his face red, looking helpless.
Ethan was quietly trying to comfort Harper.
"Harper... why won't you listen to Ryan? What if you misunderstood him? Remember, Ryan used his allowance to buy you your favorite toy yesterday!"
Harper huffed, "I don't want it anymore! Give it back to him!"
She didn't want to talk to Ryan anymore!
"Harper..."
Ryan looked hurt, reaching out to her but afraid of making her angrier.
"It really wasn't me... I don't know how that drawing ended up in my backpack. It really wasn't me!"
Harper bit her lip, not saying a word.
Her tear-streaked face, with her long, wet eyelashes drooping like little fans, made her look pitiful.
Sarah couldn't help but step forward and pull her into a hug.
"What happened, Harper? Did you have a fight with Ryan?"
Seeing Sarah, Harper's sense of grievance intensified, and she pouted, ready to cry again.
Antonio quickly tried to soothe her. "Don't cry, Harper. You're the prettiest, right? Tell us what's wrong, and we'll help you fix it, okay?"
"It's Ryan!"
"Mommy, he did something bad!"
Sarah gave Ryan a puzzled look, and Ryan shook his head frantically.
She turned back to Harper. "Tell me, what did Ryan do?"
"He accepted a love letter from a girl at school!"
Harper's voice was loud, and she started crying again, saying between sobs, "I heard the other kids say it. That girl likes Ryan and wants to be his girlfriend. When they grow up, she wants to marry him... But how can she marry Ryan? I don't like her at all. She often bullies the weaker students at school. If she marries Ryan, she'll be part of our family! I don't want her in our family!"
Besides, when they played house, Ryan always said she could be the bride!
Now he promised someone else!
Sarah was stunned, exchanging a look with Antonio before turning to Ryan. "Ryan, is what Harper said true?"
A girl gave him a love letter...
Did kids these days understand this stuff so early?
When she and Antonio were their age, they were still playing in the mud!
"Yes... and no."
Ryan's hands twisted together, looking like he was about to cry, his face red. "Mommy... I really don't know how that paper got in my backpack. I didn't mean to accept it. I don't even know that girl..."
How could he accept someone else's love letter?
"Can I see it?"
As soon as Sarah asked, Ethan ran over and grabbed a drawing. "Mommy, look! There's a bride and groom on it! It's really a love confession!"
