Chapter 459 Spoils of War

In the hospital's private room, nurses were discussing the suicide incident that occurred earlier that day. The hospital boasted the city's best security, and such an incident had never transpired before.

"It's so frightening. I heard he wasn't even a patient at our hospital. Why on earth did he come here to jump off the building?"

"Who knows? It's such a pity. I heard the man who committed suicide was quite handsome. What could he have been so desperate about?"

Serene sat inside Kevin's hospital room, listening to the passing nurses chat, a cold smile slowly spreading across her lips.

She dangled the bracelet from her finger, looking at it as if admiring a trophy...

"Brady, oh Brady, you can't blame me. If you're going to blame anyone, blame Sarah. Today's event happened because you and your sister forced my hand. It was the choices you siblings forced upon me... You got what you deserved!"

Originally, Serene had no intention of ending Brady's life, but he proved too troublesome to keep around.

Keeping him alive would only be a curse.

Serene was well-prepared. She had taken care of the traces she left on the rooftop through her contacts at the hospital and deleted all her messages with Brady with a single click.

Just like how she previously erased the information from Victor's phone, no one would find out.

After all, what did it matter whether one life or two were taken?

As long as you had money, everything could be smoothed over!

Serene was determined to remain part of the Jerrett family, even if it meant resorting to murder. After all, once a person had tasted the sweetness of power and wealth, how could they willingly let go?

Finally, Serene hid the bracelet inside Kevin's hospital room.

After hiding the bracelet, Serene quietly made her way to the emergency room in her wheelchair.

Serene still needed to check if Sarah had any tricks up her sleeve.

Outside the operating room, Sarah was still waiting, not relaxing for a moment.

"Ms. Miller, are you okay?"

Sarah looked up and was surprised to see Kevin's nurse.

"I just heard from my colleagues about the suicide attempt at the hospital, and someone said they saw you. I got worried and came over…"

Since the nurse had been taking care of Kevin for a while, she had developed a reasonably good relationship with Sarah.

Only then did Sarah remember that her original purpose for coming to the hospital had been to visit Kevin.

She pinched the bridge of her nose. "Please let him know I might not make it over, tell him to rest well…"

"Don't worry, Ms. Miller. I've already calmed him down; he has fallen asleep now. You don't need to be concerned. Just take care of yourself," the nurse reassured her.

The nurse sighed. "Just the other day, I saw Mr. Miller comforting Ms. Jerrett. He seemed so consoling then, but to think that now…"

Sarah froze. "What did you say? My brother comforting… Serene?!"

The nurse nodded. "Yes, it was some time ago, oh, around when you were hospitalized with dengue fever."

Sarah looked at the nurse in shock. "Are you sure you're not mistaken? The person talking to Serene was really my brother?"

Sarah even found a picture of Brady to show to the nurse.

The nurse was very certain. "Yes, it was Mr. Miller. I first saw him in your ward, so I knew he was your brother. After you left, he went to chat with Ms. Jerrett. I remember telling my colleague how nice it was that your two families have such a good relationship. To be friends like you all, it's really quite enviable."

But Sarah was already deeply shaken!

How could Brady possibly know Serene?! They shouldn't have any interaction at all!

Seeing that Sarah was in a bit of a state, the nurse didn't say more. "Ms. Miller, there are things I need to take care of back in the wards, so I'll be going. Don't overthink things."

After the nurse left, Sarah glanced at the surgery room door, stood up, and decided to go find Serene.

She had to get to the bottom of this!

But as fate would have it, there was Serene, approaching in her wheelchair.

"Sarah, what brings you here?" Serene's voice carried a tinge of surprise as she beheld her unexpected visitor.

"Why are you here in the ER instead of resting up in your room?" Sarah clenched her fists, a hostile glare fixed on her face. Her gut screamed that Serene was somehow entangled in her brother's fall.

Serene replied nonchalantly, "I was just bored, killing time. What about you? Why are you here?"

"My brother fell from a building here at the hospital today. I'd imagine someone like you would have heard such big news?"

Sarah's eyes bore into Serene with an intensity that could scorch.

Serene blinked, clearly bewildered. "I heard someone had a fall... What did you say? Your brother?! Oh my God, Sarah, are you okay? But don't worry too much. Your brother will be okay!"

Sarah countered sharply, "My brother's name is Brady. Do you know him?"

"What did you just say?!" Serene was visibly shaken, nearly tumbling out of her wheelchair. "Brady's your brother! How can that be? Right... his last name is Miller. How did I not make the connection? But how did he fall in the first place? What exactly happened?!"

As Sarah watched tears stream down Serene's face, she felt nothing but revulsion. "Serene, how did you come to know my brother?"

Sarah's aggressive stance drew the attention of passersby, who couldn't help but pause.

Sitting in her wheelchair, Serene already seemed at a disadvantage. Paired with her tear-streaked face, she looked pitiable.

"It was a serendipitous meeting at the hospital. He accidentally collided with my wheelchair, sparking a brief exchange of words. Later, during his flu check-up, we crossed paths once more, sensing a hint of destiny in the air. That prompted us to exchange contact information. However, in truth, we seldom reached out to each other."

Serene wasn't lying this time.

Covering her mouth, Serene spoke with genuine sorrow, "He even comforted me once, telling me never to give up on life. How could he then—"

Sarah exploded, "Cut the act! If you hadn't deliberately wormed your way into my brother's life, how on earth would he have met you? Better start spilling the truth, Serene!"

Through her tears, Serene shook her head. "Sarah, what are you talking about? I know your brother's accident has hit you hard, but that doesn't give you the right to suspect me. What does any of this have to do with me?"
