Chapter 126 Don't Be Afraid, I'm Here to Save You
Around lunchtime, the servants were all chillin', taking their break, so Harper slipped out of the room without a hitch.
Right then, Harper ditched her usual sweet and charming vibe. She looked dead serious, eyes all steely, like a mini soldier on a mission.
She bolted downstairs, heading straight for the main entrance, ready to save Ethan all by herself.
Suddenly, she heard someone rushing up behind her. Harper squinted her big eyes and whipped her head around to see who it was.
'Ugh, it's Ryan again!' she thought.
"I ain't got time for this. Leave me alone!" Harper snapped.
Ethan was in deep trouble, and she couldn't waste a second.
Without another word, she kept moving, but Ryan caught up to her. "Where you headed? Something up? Let me help!"
He didn't know what was going on, but he could tell Harper was super stressed.
Plus, he couldn't stand the idea of her going out alone.
Harper kept walking, not even glancing at him. She wanted to say no, but the words just wouldn't come out.
Having an extra person could be handy. Rescuing Ethan was urgent, so why not let him tag along?
Finally, Harper made up her mind and looked up at him. ""You wanted to come, so don't pin it on me later!"
Ryan grinned. "Got it, no worries."
They flagged down a cab and headed to the spot.
Harper was smart and had the cab wait nearby for a quick escape later.
To stay hidden, they ducked behind a big tree and scoped out the scene.
It was a standalone villa, with a bunch of bodyguards in black hanging around outside.
The place looked tough to crack, so Harper didn't rush in. She pulled out her phone, zoomed in with the camera, and started checking things out.
Ryan watched her, impressed. 'Dang, Harper's got brains,' he thought.
But he still had no clue why they were there.
He leaned in close and whispered, "What are we doing here?"
Harper quickly signaled for him to hush and whispered back, "We're here to rescue someone."
Ryan was shocked at first, then got serious. No wonder Harper was in such a hurry; she was on a rescue mission.
'Who are we rescuing?' he wondered.
Just then, Harper whispered excitedly, "There!"
Ryan focused on the phone screen and saw a window on the third floor locked from the outside. Someone was definitely being held there.
With the location nailed down, Harper decided to act before Antonio got back.
She waved her hand and snuck out from behind the tree, heading for the villa's outer wall.
Ryan followed, his heart racing with a mix of excitement and nerves.
This was his first time doing something so secretive. He was scared of getting caught, but also kinda thrilled.
Plus, he felt this weird sense of duty to protect Harper.
Even though it was risky, he wasn't as scared as he thought he'd be with her around.
Their small size helped. They circled the wall, looking for a weak spot, and finally found one, sneaking into the backyard.
Harper led Ryan to the locked window and crouched in the bushes.
She took off the bow on her shoulder and quickly typed a message with her small hands.
Ryan had never seen anything like it and stared in awe. Just as he was about to ask, another message popped up on the screen.
But before he could read it, Harper put away the bow and looked up. He followed her gaze.
Next to the locked window, a small figure appeared. Ryan immediately recognized him as the boy who had saved him, who looked just like Harper!
Seeing Ethan again made him happy, but the situation was serious.
Why had Ethan been captured?
Ethan had saved his bacon last time, so now it was Ryan's turn to return the favor!
Feeling a surge of responsibility, Ryan clenched his shirt and made up his mind to rescue Ethan!
Up in the third-floor room, as soon as Ethan got Harper's message, he dashed to the window.
He'd thought about escaping before, but the door was locked, and the window was sealed from the outside. Unless he could phase through walls, he was stuck.
Just when he was feeling hopeless, Harper's message came through.
It was awesome that Harper was coming to save him, but he was also worried about her.
When he got to the window, he was surprised to see Ryan standing next to Harper.
Ethan recognized Ryan right away, and a flicker of annoyance crossed his usually cool face.
But he knew this wasn't the time to dwell on that, so he quickly signaled to Harper to discuss their plan.
Watching them from the bushes below, Ryan felt a weird pang of jealousy.
Harper didn't notice his expression. After communicating with Ethan, she sighed helplessly. "The window can only be opened by breaking the lock with a rock from the outside, but how do we get up there?"
They looked at the bare wall and then zeroed in on the water pipe.
Harper immediately looked troubled and murmured, "There's nothing to climb on the wall except that water pipe, but..."
It was gonna be tough to climb up to the third floor.
It looked so high and scary.
Ryan also realized that climbing the water pipe was their only shot.
Seeing the fear and hesitation on Harper's face, he didn't know where he got the guts from, but he gritted his teeth and crawled out of the bushes.
He first found a rock and stuffed it in his pocket, then ran towards the water pipe without a second thought.
Harper saw what he was up to and was shocked, quickly chasing after him.
But afraid of attracting the bodyguards, she could only whisper, "Hey, what are you doing!"
It was too dangerous!
Was he nuts?
Ryan moved faster than she expected. Before Harper could stop him, he was already climbing up.
He might have looked brave, but his heart was pounding like crazy.
He heard Harper's voice but didn't dare to look down, gripping the water pipe tightly and responding in a small voice, "Wait for me down there. Don't come up!"
Harper had no choice but to wait below and keep watch.
After confirming that no bodyguards were coming, she looked up and saw Ryan's determined expression. Her gaze softened, and a part of her heart melted. 'He doesn't seem so annoying anymore. If he really rescues Ethan, I might consider being friends with him.'Harper mused.
Ryan, who was climbing, felt that Harper was definitely watching him.
At this moment, he was super tense, gripping the water pipe tightly, afraid of falling.
His legs were shaking uncontrollably, but he forced himself to keep climbing bit by bit.
All he could think about was rescuing Ethan. Harper was watching him, but he didn't notice the cold sweat on his forehead and the paleness of his face.
Ethan, by the window, saw this and felt a bit puzzled. His previous aversion to Ryan lessened a bit.
However, he hadn't fully accepted Ryan yet.
'Antonio captured him, so why did he come here to rescue me?' While thinking, Ryan had successfully climbed to the third floor.
He looked pretty pleased, a smile appearing on his pale face. Despite his trembling body, he didn't forget to comfort Ethan through the glass. "Don't be afraid, I'm here to rescue you."
Although Ryan's voice was faint, Ethan still heard it. His eyes flickered, and he felt a strange emotion.
Seeing Ryan trembling, Ethan hesitated for a moment but still responded stiffly, "Be careful."
If he fell, Ethan couldn't bear the responsibility.
Ryan nodded with a smile, tightly hugging the water pipe with his left hand and taking out the rock with his right hand to break the lock.
Finally, Ethan was free, and he quickly climbed out of the window.
They started climbing down the water pipe. Just as the rescue mission seemed about to succeed, suddenly, Ryan slipped!
He gasped in shock, losing his grip, and his face turned pale.
Harper, seeing this dangerous moment from below, was so scared that she covered her eyes.
