Chapter 175 He Watched Her Embrace Alex and Say Goodbye
Harper clung onto Alex's arm at the airport, shaking it incessantly. "Are you really not going to stay a few more days here? I'll miss you so much!"
"We have to part even if it's hard," Alex replied, gently rubbing Harper's head. Though his face still bore a warm smile, his eyes revealed a profound sense of loss.
He remembered how Harper used to call him "Godfather", realizing that it wasn't just him feeling excluded. Even Harper thought so.
"Are you really not staying a few more days?" Sarah looked at Alex, who was considerably taller than she was. She had always been grateful to Alex, whether in the past or present; that gratitude remained unwavering.
Alex didn't answer her question directly. Instead, he stared deeply into Sarah's eyes and asked, word by word, "Are you really not coming back abroad with me?"
In truth, he wanted to ask something else, but he knew Sarah could understand his intentions. He didn't want to pressure her or embarrass himself.
"I... I..." Sarah was momentarily taken aback. She had always known Alex's feelings, yet she didn't want to lose this friendship or force herself into an unrequited love.
A silence fell between them.
Harper and Ethan instinctively refrained from speaking, not entirely understanding why the two hesitated but choosing not to disturb them.
The glimmer in Alex's eyes gradually diminished. With a sudden gentleness, he smiled. "I understand. I will take good care of Brian for you until you... re-evaluate your relationship. Then I'll send him to you."
He was not surprised by Sarah's choice.
During their time together, he could tell that Sarah still loved Antonio. It was just that misunderstandings had created their present circumstances, and it was time for him to let go.
"If Antonio ever bullies your mom, promise me you'll tell me. Don't let her suffer needlessly, alright, Harper, Ethan?" Alex half-jokingly and half-seriously said.
"Mhm, don't worry. Daddy won't bully Mommy again," Harper said seriously.
Meanwhile, Ethan pursed his lips and remained silent. He wasn't easily convinced by "Bad Guys".
Alex chuckled as he ruffled their hair, then outstretched his arms, looking at Sarah with a smile. "Let's have one final embrace as a farewell gift for our parting."
It was also a farewell to his unrequited love.
Sarah nodded and took a step forward, embracing him. She expected a simple hug, but Alex surprised her by holding on tight for a while before letting go.
Standing not too far away amidst the crowd, Antonio watched the scene unfold. His veins pulsated for a moment as he struggled to resist the urge to approach.
...
The atmosphere in the villa grew extremely tense in the following days.
The service staff could sense the delicate dynamics between the husband and wife, and everyone spoke in hushed tones, afraid of provoking Antonio's wrath.
Meanwhile, Harper, feeling the atmosphere, shook her head silently.
Ah, it's such a simple matter! Why do adults make it so complicated?!
"Ethan, what's wrong with Mommy and Daddy? Why haven't they made up yet?"
Ethan played with his phone and glanced at her, casually saying, "Isn't that normal?"
After all the things Bad Guy did to hurt Mommy, how could she forgive him so easily? But lately, the atmosphere has indeed been strange.
"That's not normal. I must help Daddy win Mommy back." Harper raised her head confidently. When she saw that Ethan was not persuaded, she said discontentedly, "Ethan, you have to help me."
"No, I won't help," Ethan refused promptly.
He would never agree to help Antonio win back Sarah.
While they were talking, Ryan cautiously approached from a distance. He hesitated for a while and couldn't find the right words. He wanted to help Harper but also remembered what had happened in the past, leaving him unsure of how to approach it.
"Oh, by the way, Mommy's birthday is coming up. I'm going to tell Daddy to seize the opportunity and try to make Mommy forgive him sooner," Harper said and ran towards the villa.
After thinking for a while, Ryan quickly followed. He wanted to help Harper.
...
On the other side, Antonio had just returned from work when Harper dragged him mysteriously into the study, with Ryan following behind, still not saying a word.
"What's wrong, Harper?" Antonio asked, looking down at her.
Harper thought for a moment and stroked her chin before saying, "Daddy, Mommy's birthday is coming up. What do you plan to do?"
"What do I plan to do?"
This really caught Antonio off guard. He had been thinking about it for the past few days but still hadn't figured out how to celebrate Sarah's birthday.
He felt bitter in his heart, feeling helpless.
Years ago, Sarah would say she liked it no matter what he did. But now...
Harper looked at Antonio with disdain. She knew she had to help.
"I'll tell you secretly. You have to..."
Harper nodded. "Do you understand? Daddy, you must prepare well. I'll secretly come to help you."
She was ready to take action and make her parents reconcile.
Ryan nodded silently next to them and said, "I can help too."
After thinking for a while, Harper nodded. She did need someone's help, and since Ethan wouldn't help her, Ryan would do.
"But you have to listen to me."
"Okay." Ryan nodded, feeling happy inside.
…
After devising a plan, Harper and Antonio became secretive every day, often talking together in the study, with Ryan continuously following them around like a shadow.
Sarah soon noticed their unusual behavior and asked Ethan, who was sitting next to him, "Ethan, what's been going on with Harper lately? Why does he always stay in the study?"
Ethan glanced at the closed study door and casually replied, "I'm not sure."
He could actually guess what they were up to. It was probably just a surprise they were preparing for Sarah on behalf of Antonio. He didn't dare to show any interest in it.
As for Sarah, although she was puzzled, she didn't think too much about it...
