Chapter 486 The Vanishing Woman
"Sarah, why do you have to be such a nuisance?" Serene clenched her teeth as she glanced at the ward, feeling restless.
She had originally intended to disguise herself as a passerby and sneak in to retrieve the bracelet without drawing attention. However, confronted with the tight security, she quickly realized that gaining entry was impossible. It dawned on her that she might as well have attempted to enter using her own identity.
Cursing under her breath, Serene recognized this back and forth was causing delays. However, during the phone call earlier, Sarah hadn't mentioned anything about the bracelet, so she probably didn't know much about it. And there shouldn't be any reason for her to know either.
With this thought, Serene felt somewhat relieved.
At that moment, the doctors finished their rounds, and Sarah walked out with them, chatting.
"We will issue a comprehensive full-body examination report for Mr. Miller in the next few days. That way, when you transfer him abroad, it will be easier to hand over his case to the hospital there. I hope Mr. Miller will wake up soon. If there's good news, remember to let me know."
Sarah had already informed the doctor of her decision to transfer Brady to another facility, and the doctors were making their final assessments before the transfer.
Sarah smiled faintly, "Thank you, doctor. And about my brother's case, you can just discuss it with me. There's a lot going on at home, so let's not bother my... husband about it."
She intended to leave secretly, without letting Antonio find out.
The doctor nodded, naturally agreeing to the request of the patient's family member. "No problem, we'll take our leave now. You have two patients to care for, so make sure you get some rest."
After seeing the doctor off, Sarah was somewhat distracted. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a woman dressed in black from head to toe. It was strange to see someone wrapped up so tightly in a hospital.
Sarah glanced over twice out of curiosity, and perhaps the woman sensed her gaze because she suddenly paused, turned her body away, and quickly left.
Sarah headed towards Kevin's room and asked the bodyguard at the door, "Did anyone come by just now?"
The bodyguard replied, "No, aside from the doctors and nurses, no one has approached the room, ma'am. Is something the matter?"
Sarah shook her head. "Nothing's wrong, but make sure no strangers get close to this room. The nurses and doctors are all exclusive to us, and their medicines should be carefully checked as well."
Latter…
Sarah breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you for your hard work, officer."
"No worries, " the officer replied with a chuckle. "We will also contact Mr. Jerret's biological daughter to cooperate with the investigation, which will be a great help in catching the culprit."
Sarah pursed her lips and furrowed her brow. "Alright, I understand."
It seemed that Serene had not yet taken the initiative to contact the police. Did she not care about her own father at all? Was he not her real father?
After ending the call with the police, Sarah immediately sent a message to Serene, urging her to contact the authorities as soon as possible to help find the perpetrator.
…
Serene was standing at the base of the hospital building when she received the message. Her eyes darkened, and an impatient sneer formed on her lips as she typed her response.
Serene: [Sarah, I'm on my way to the police station right now. You've been a great help with my father these past few days. As you know, he only recognizes you as his daughter now. I really appreciate it.]
…
Upon reading the message, Sarah cursed under her breath. She was beginning to think that Serene's disability might just be divine punishment!
Thinking that Kevin should be awake by now, Sarah returned to his ward.
Compared to yesterday when he was drugged, Kevin was noticeably more alert today, and he gradually began to recognize
Sarah. Holding a bright red apple in her hand, Sarah peeled and cut it into small pieces to feed Kevin.
Recently, Kevin hadn't been faring well, and the nurses had ceased taking him outside. Perhaps due to a partial administration of medication the previous night, Kevin appeared notably clear-headed today.
Sarah believed that exposing him to sunlight could benefit his health.
At that moment, the sun was at its peak, and Sarah found a wheelchair to take Kevin to the hospital garden for some fresh air. The sunshine felt like it opened up every pore in the body; it was quite pleasant indeed.
The two of them chatted idly, when suddenly, Sarah shuddered. Turning around, she saw Antonio, who had appeared behind them at some point.
"Sarah, so this is where you are," Antonio said.
Sarah ignored him and shifted her gaze away from Antonio. Undeterred, Antonio walked around to face Kevin and squatted down, "Dad, how are you feeling today? Do you remember who I am?"
Kevin snorted, "You scoundrel! You've run off with my daughter! How could I not recognize you?" Kevin had long mistaken Antonio for his son-in-law and believed that his daughter and son-in-law had a very good relationship. In his mind, this son-in-law was fully capable and trustworthy.
Hearing Kevin's response, Antonio smiled with relief. He placed a gift into Sarah's arms and then started to massage Kevin attentively.
Naturally, Kevin was unaware of the tension between the two and interacted with Antonio as he always had, with laughter and conversation.
However, Sarah stood by with a troubled expression.
Sarah hadn't said a word to Antonio about Kevin's incident the night before, yet there he was, so evidently already informed.
While Sarah never intended to keep such an event a secret from Antonio, she still disliked his behavior.
Perhaps her emotions showed on her face because Kevin suddenly turned to her and asked, "Sarah, what's the matter? You seem unhappy since Antonio arrived, why is that?"
