Chapter 47 Do You Want to Kill the Kid?
Ethan was floored for a sec, but then he got what Antonio was saying, and his lips pressed into a tight line.
Antonio had this gut feeling that the girl in front of him was different somehow, but he couldn't dwell on it. The priority was saving Ryan from the gator pool!
Antonio snapped at Ethan, "If anything happens to him, you're dead meat!"
Ethan's face turned icy with anger at those words.
Without a word, Ethan spun around and leaped into the pool without a second thought!
Gasps erupted from the crowd.
"Another kid fell in, someone save them!"
"He jumped! I saw it!"
"Jumped? Is he nuts?"
The staff, totally unprepared for this kind of chaos, fumbled to call emergency rescue with shaky hands.
Antonio was stunned, never expecting 'Harper' to pull a stunt like that.
It all went down so fast, he didn't even have time to react!
And then Sarah, who had just come back with ice cream, walked into the gator exhibit and saw the whole scene!
It was like a punch to the gut; her ice cream hit the ground.
Shock turned to pure rage, and Sarah stormed up and slapped Antonio without a second thought.
"You jerk! You pushed Harper down! Are you out of your mind?"
Antonio's face darkened, teeth clenched. "I'll explain later!"
He was about to jump in to save the kids, but the staff held him back. "Don't rile up the gator more, or the kids will be in even more danger!"
In the gator pool, Ryan was sitting in the water, drenched and scared out of his mind.
His face was ghostly pale, breathing all over the place, heart pounding like it was gonna burst.
Suddenly, he clutched his chest, his face twisting in pain.
Ethan, who had just jumped in, saw Ryan clutching his chest.
'Is his condition acting up?'
Ethan's face got serious, and he carefully approached Ryan, holding a pole the staff had dropped in their panic.
Ethan whispered, "Hey, we're gonna be fine. Just stay behind me and don't move."
Tears filled Ryan's eyes. He looked up at Ethan's determined face, and his fear eased a bit.
For some reason, he trusted her!
Seeing Ryan nod, Ethan turned to face the gator.
He gripped the pole tight, looking like a tiny but fierce warrior.
Everyone on the shore was on edge, barely breathing, afraid to provoke the gator.
Sarah clutched her hands to her chest, shaking all over.
Rescue teams were already trying to get into the pool, so she knew there was nothing more she could do.
She watched Ethan intently, fists clenched.
Her hatred for Antonio hit a new high. If anything happened to Ethan, she'd go to war with him!
Antonio, standing next to Sarah, gripped the railing tight, his face tense.
He hadn't felt this kind of fear and worry since that one time five years ago.
The gator in the pool had noticed the two fresh targets, its eyes locked on the kids.
It rolled its eyes and started crawling towards them.
Ethan watched the gator closely, not missing a single move.
He'd seen on a science show how to handle a gator encounter.
Luckily, there was only one gator in the exhibit, and he was confident he could handle it!
He stood still, and everyone on the shore thought he was frozen with fear, but really, he was trying to make himself less noticeable.
Sure enough, when Ethan stayed still, the gator crept closer and then paused.
Ethan's eyes lit up, and he whispered, "Hand me your jacket."
Ryan was confused but did as he was told, trying to move as quietly as possible. He slipped off his suit jacket and passed it to Ethan.
Seeing the gator hadn't noticed, Ethan quickly scanned the area, picked a direction, and with all his might, chucked the jacket away.
Almost instantly, the gator lunged at the jacket, and Ethan took the chance to jab it in the eye with the pole.
The gator, now with one injured eye, went berserk.
Everyone on the shore covered their mouths, holding back their gasps.
Rescue personnel and keepers rushed over, scared but admiring Ethan's guts.
Antonio was worried but also blown away.
'She's actually taking on a gator! Who the heck is Harper?' Antonio thought, his eyes narrowing.
Sarah's heart was still pounding; Ethan wasn't out of the woods yet, and every second felt like an eternity.
Ethan saw the gator freaking out and took another shot with the pole!
He missed the first time but quickly followed up with a few more jabs, finally hitting the gator's other eye.
The staff used the distraction to lure the gator away, and Ethan grabbed the limp Ryan. "Let's get outta here!"
They bolted to the edge of the pool, where rescue personnel were ready to haul them out.
Seeing the kids safe, the crowd's jaws dropped, and then they burst into applause.
"Unbelievable, a kid just took down a gator!"
"Did I just see that? Is this real life?"
"Falling into a gator pool and walking out fine, that girl's a superhero!"
Ryan was still in shock. Antonio rushed over, seeing his pale face, and quickly gave him some fast-acting meds.
Ethan was pulled up next, and Sarah ran over to hug him. "You nearly gave me a heart attack."
Ethan cut her off, "Wasn't I awesome?"
Sarah was taken aback, almost letting something slip, but quickly corrected herself, "You were amazing. Are you hurt?"
Ethan shook his head, his little face full of pride. "Nope, I'm good!"
Ryan, feeling better after the meds, was still a concern for Antonio. "Don't worry, I'll get you to the hospital."
He picked up Ryan to leave, but Ryan suddenly said, "Harper." Antonio replied, "Don't worry, if she pushed you, I'll deal with her. Let's get you to the hospital first."
Ryan clarified, "No, she didn't push me. I fell in myself!"
Antonio paused, "Really?"
Seeing Ryan nod, he realized he'd jumped to conclusions and felt awkward.
But then Ethan's face changed, and he pointed at Antonio, complaining to Sarah, "It was Antonio who made me jump in!"
Antonio went silent.
Sarah's fury reignited. She knew it, Antonio had been targeting the kids, heartless as ever!
Antonio tried to say something, but Sarah cut him off. She sneered, "Valencia's kid is a gem. We can't mess with him. I'll take Harper to keep Ryan safe!"
With that, she scooped up Ethan, shot Antonio a death glare, and stormed off.
