Chapter 389 Wherever You Are, I Am There
Brian sincerely apologized to Sarah and Antonio. After all, he had prepared this house, and the stove malfunctioning had caused Antonio to get injured. He couldn't shake off the guilt in his heart.
Of course, Antonio had no idea why his son was apologizing and smiled in confusion. "Son, what are you talking about? Are you scared silly? Don't worry, we are alright."
After saying that, Antonio reached out and lifted Brian, affectionately ruffling his hair. "Son, you don't have to worry. The fire has been put out, and our family hasn't suffered any losses. But I still want to remind you, don't rush into such situations in the future. Remember to protect yourself.
"Only when you protect yourself can you protect Mommy, right?"
Brian blinked. From a young age, he had always told himself that being the eldest male in the family meant he should shoulder the responsibility of caring for his siblings and mother. His mission was to keep his loved ones safe from harm.
Thus, he established a company at a tender age to provide enough security for them. But he had never thought that one day he would also experience the feeling of being protected.
This feeling was different from being with his mother. Although she could provide him with ample love and care, she wouldn't charge ahead alone in a situation like just now.
But looking at Antonio, the person he had always despised, Brian unexpectedly felt that he could trust him to go bravely ahead because this man would protect him unconditionally...
Brian felt a bit awkward about this emerging thought but realized he didn't have the strength to push Antonio away. He could only let him embrace him.
"Leave it to me here. Our little man will accompany Mom to wash up, okay?"
Antonio ruffled "Ethan's" head again, knowing his son had been frightened, and he felt a bit sorry for him.
Brian nodded and looked at Antonio's singed hair. He bit his lip and awkwardly said, "You should wash up too."
Sarah knew Brian was the one here, not Ethan, and couldn't help but laugh at his discomfort.
"What are you laughing at?" Antonio was still a bit bewildered.
Sarah couldn't express her true thoughts and could only change the topic. "Laughing at our Fire Marshal, the prodigious expert of fire control. It's just that you're missing the unique attire."
Antonio blinked and saw the clean little face of "Ethan" in his arms. He leaned over and rubbed his cheek against Brian's.
"Now our family is all neat and tidy."
Brian never expected Antonio to suddenly become so affectionate towards him.
The movement made Brian completely stiff in Antonio's arms.
"You... let me go!"
"That's not going to happen." Antonio dragged "Ethan" by the leg and spun in place. "Time for a bath."
Antonio held Brian just like a child in a TV show, where the father would playfully lift and spin them in the air.
It was only when Antonio reached the bathroom door that Brian reacted and realized he didn't want Antonio to help him take another bath.
"Let me go." Brian struggled and jumped off Antonio's body.
Antonio didn't insist. "Well, then you wash up yourself. I'll go help your mother tidy up the kitchen. Once you're done, wait in the room for dinner. This will be our little secret. Don't tell your sister so she won't get scared."
Brian instinctively knew he couldn't tell Harper and the others about this incident.
His younger siblings were always scared, and who knew how they would react if they learned about this?
"I know that already. No need to remind me."
Antonio didn't pay much attention. "My son is smart. Now go!"
After saying that, Antonio turned around and went back to the kitchen.
Brian watched his fading figure with mixed emotions and reluctantly went into the bathroom, feeling a bit lost.
Sarah had turned off all the gas but still didn't dare to figure out what went wrong. She was about to call the gas company to come and fix it when Antonio came over.
"Did you turn off the natural gas?"
Sarah nodded. "Don't mess around, it's dangerous."
"What's dangerous about it? You've turned off the gas, right?"
Antonio opened the cabinet and found the battery for the stove.
As he suspected, one of the batteries had come loose, causing the problem of Sarah not being able to ignite the stove.
Antonio reattached the battery, adjusted the minor problem with the stove, and found dog hair there.
"It seems our troublemaker is Century Garden again. I'll deal with it after dinner."
Antonio wrapped the dog hair and threw it into the trash bin to prevent Sarah from having an allergy reaction.
While speaking, Antonio reopened the stove. After his inspection, the flames came on as usual.
"If you're still worried, I'll have someone come and take a look tomorrow. Tonight, let's use a different stove."
Antonio saw that Sarah was still a little scared, so he didn't touch the stove buttons again.
"I'm not worried." Sarah bit her lip, still shaken by the accident. Yet, as she gazed at Antonio, her heart stirred with emotions.
Antonio glanced down at the wound on his arm. Moments ago, he appeared indifferent, but now a sense of vulnerability crept into his expression.
"Sarah, my hand really hurts." Antonio extended his hand toward Sarah.
"Come to the living room, I'll apply the medicine for you," Sarah instinctively reached for Antonio's hand, which he held tightly in return.
Antonio led Sarah to the living room, allowing her to tend to his wound.
"You need to remember not to get it wet. Be more careful next time, don't act so recklessly. What if you really got hurt? What would you do then?"
Just the thought of the fire rushing towards her made Sarah's heart tremble.
Antonio curved his lips and said, "If I get hurt, you'll take care of me, won't you?"
"But what if I'm not around?"
"How is that possible? Wherever you are, I'll be there too."
Antonio held Sarah's hand lovingly, his gaze fixed on her face, and the atmosphere instantly became filled with ambiguity.
As their eyes met, they hadn't experienced such harmony in a long time.
During this period, they had been endlessly arguing. Even at the hospital, they couldn't help but be at odds with each other.
Now, as they looked into each other's eyes, gazing with the most sincere affection, both of their hearts softened.
Antonio slowly leaned forward...
