Chapter 732 Honey, I'm Tired
Sarah never thought Antonio could pull off the whole "new money" act so well. He had the look and the swagger down pat.
Elbert's eyes flashed with a bit of disdain, but he still buttered him up, "Mr. White, you're really something."
'New money is always a bit tacky,' he mused.
But hey, a rich guy who knows how to make bank deserves some respect.
Elbert grinned and went on, "So, Mr. White, any chance you're interested in teaming up with the Harrington Group this time?"
Antonio grabbed a piece of dessert and handed it to Sarah before replying, all chill, "Elbert, you know I came back for a reason. I'm here for the Harrington Group."
His look was loaded with meaning, almost like he was doing it on purpose.
Elbert tried to keep his cool and raised his glass for a toast. "Thanks for the kindness, Mr. White. If you need any info, just ask. I'll spill everything."
Antonio took a sip and sighed, "The Harrington Group's rep is top-notch. But you know, Elbert, the global economy's in the dumps right now, so we gotta be careful with investments."
Elbert sneered inside. He knew "Paul" used to sell fish. Now here he was, talking global economy. If it weren't for Paul's cash, he'd totally look down on him.
But orders were orders; Harold told him to secure a partner at this event.
And Paul was the only rich fool around.
Elbert kept his face neutral.
"Don't worry, Mr. White. The Harrington Group's projects go through tough risk checks. We make sure our hard work pays off."
Antonio nodded. "No wonder your company's killing it!"
Elbert felt a glimmer of hope. "So, what do you think..."
Antonio stood up, showing off a flashy belt with a big brand logo. He stroked his chin and said, "Elbert, how about this? My wife and I are sticking around Marshall City for a few more days. I can swing by your company, check out the vibe and the staff, sound good?"
Seeing Elbert's face change, he added, "You know, a company's spirit and culture say a lot about its future!"
Elbert nodded. "Mr. White, you're spot on."
"So if I like what I see, we can sign the deal right away!" Antonio's loud, generous tone made it seem like he was ready to drop the cash then and there.
Elbert thought it over. It was a small ask.
It made sense for an investor to check things out.
He agreed, turned, and whispered to someone behind him. Soon, they came back with a company pass.
Elbert handed the pass to Antonio with a smile. "Mr. White, the Harrington Group's doors are always open for you. We can't wait for your visit."
Antonio let out a big laugh and pulled Sarah closer, saying, "Awesome! I'll be there bright and early tomorrow!"
Sarah leaned into Antonio's shoulder and whispered, "Babe, I'm beat. Let's bounce; this place is a drag."
"Oh, darling!" Antonio immediately touched her belly with concern.
Turning back with an apologetic look, he said, "Sorry, Elbert. My wife's pregnant and needs some TLC. Gotta take her home now. See you tomorrow!"
Elbert, worried Antonio might flake, asked nervously, "What time will you be here tomorrow, Mr. White? I'll be there to greet you personally."
"Well," Antonio pretended to look a bit troubled as he glanced at Sarah.
Then he turned and said, "Honestly, Elbert, I can't give you a set time."
Elbert was anxious but knew he couldn't push it. He had no choice but to ask for their hotel info. "Then Mr. and Mrs. White, please go back and rest up. I'll make sure to welcome you properly tomorrow!"
"Alright, Elbert, no need to see us off." Antonio waved dramatically and left the banquet hall with Sarah.
Meanwhile, Harold had no clue Antonio had already wormed his way into the Harrington Group's HQ under a new alias.
He sat in his chair, sipping tea, having just read the latest updates from Margaret.
The updates included various photos of "Benjamin" and her having a blast.
They even visited their old school, where Margaret shared a bunch of memories with him.
Harold thought "Benjamin" was totally buying Margaret's act.
Thinking of this, Harold sneered and put down his phone.
'Benjamin, always so cocky, but in the end, you're still dancing in my palm,' he thought.
He was sure Benjamin couldn't even imagine it!
His so-called "true love" was just a well-crafted trap!
However, Harold felt a bit let down.
Benjamin was annoyingly smart, but why was he such a sucker for stuff like this?
He didn't expect Benjamin to be so easily swayed by emotions.
He had already sent these photos to Sarah, who was in the hospital.
Harold was curious to see how Sarah would react.
Would she be so mad she'd keel over? Thinking of this, he suddenly picked up his phone and made another call.
"Any updates on Sarah?" he asked.
"Our people have been watching her. She's still in the hospital recovering. Recently, her condition's gotten worse, and there's a risk she might lose the baby. Our people confirmed she looks really bad," the other end replied.
Harold couldn't help but sneer sinisterly, "Good!"
Hanging up the phone, Harold felt even more at ease.
'Sarah, who would've thought a few photos could knock you down? I hope you just die. And take that baby with you!' Harold cursed inwardly.
The next morning, Antonio and Sarah showed up at the Harrington Group as planned.
Elbert personally greeted them, showing them around all the office areas and giving detailed intros to each department. He even took them to the chairman's office at Paul's "curiosity."
"Hey, what's that over there?"
Suddenly, Sarah pointed to a door in the distance, full of curiosity.
