Chapter 757 This is Sarah's Fate

"Larry Evans."

On the other end of the line was Larry Evans, Antonio's old high school buddy. They used to be tight, but drifted apart after Antonio lost his memory.

Larry, who hadn't heard from Antonio in ages, was shocked. "Antonio?"

"Yeah, it's me," Antonio replied, keeping it brief. "Something happened. I need to talk to you in person. Can you come over?"

Larry was the captain of the detective squad. Getting him involved would make things more legit.

Plus, Larry had no connections to Harold.

Larry was excited to reconnect with an old friend.

He showed up fast and frowned when he saw the guy on the ground, bleeding from the head.

"Antonio, what the hell happened?" Larry asked.

Antonio gave him a quick rundown and said, "The problem is, we don't know who's behind this."

Of course, he knew but couldn't say it outright.

Larry checked the guy's head wound and looked up at Antonio. "You hit him pretty hard! Even if he wakes up, he might be a vegetable!"

Antonio chuckled. If that were the case, it would suit him just fine.

"Take him back first," Antonio said.

"And keep this under wraps for now. I need you to handle it personally and find out who's behind it."

Larry was more skilled at interrogations than Antonio.

Larry agreed. "No problem."

This was clearly a murder case, and finding the mastermind was his job. Even if Antonio hadn't asked, he would've done it.

As for keeping it quiet...

Antonio noticed his concern and said seriously, "This involves my family's safety. Once the truth comes out, it could be a big case for you, which might help with your promotion. Consider this me owing you one."

"Alright," Larry agreed, knowing Antonio's promises always meant something.

They discussed the details and got ready to take the suspect back.

Just then, the suspect's phone buzzed.

Antonio and Larry exchanged a look and paused.

They both knew the person contacting him was likely the mastermind!

Larry pulled the phone from the guy's pocket and saw a text message.

[Why haven't I heard from you in so long? How's it going?]

Antonio frowned, thinking this probably wasn't Harold but someone he trusted.

Larry thought for a moment and typed a reply.

[Why are you rushing? There was a little accident earlier! It's done now! Don't worry!]

He showed it to Antonio.

Antonio thought for a moment, then used Bluetooth to send the photos he had taken of the surveillance equipment to the killer's phone and sent them along with the text.

A reply came quickly.

[Alright, I'll transfer the remaining payment to your account soon. Contact you if there's anything else.]

This way, the police could get some info about the mastermind based on the payment account. Even if they couldn't confirm the identity, at least they'd have a lead.

"The rest is up to you," Antonio said.

Larry pocketed the suspect's phone. "No problem. As soon as I get any results, I'll let you know immediately."

"Okay."

With that, Antonio helped Larry get the suspect into the car. With Larry's help, they could keep this under wraps for now. The doctor and the director wouldn't dare spill the beans, and Harold's scheme would soon be out in the open.

Antonio watched Larry's car fade into the distance. The road was pretty empty, and the fog gave everything a hazy vibe.

He headed back upstairs to find Isabella, who had been waiting in the ward, glancing at the clock every now and then.

When she heard the door, she looked up and sighed in relief. "You're here."

"Yeah."

Antonio closed the door and sat by the bed. "Have you made up your mind?"

Isabella met his gaze and nodded firmly. "I've done a lot of bad things before. I'm willing to help you to make up for my past mistakes. Is that okay?"

Despite her words, she still had a soft spot for Harold. If it weren't for him, she might still be stuck in the orphanage.

But after her suicide attempt, she realized that actions had consequences.

"I'm glad you think that way." Antonio was still cautious but managed a slight smile. "If there's a chance, I hope we can be friends in the future."

Isabella was momentarily taken aback by his smile, feeling a bit melancholic. She had done so much to win Antonio's favor before, but he had never smiled at her. Now, he was being friendly.

Isabella smiled with relief. "If you need any help, just let me know."

Antonio raised an eyebrow and got straight to the point. "Call Harold now and tell him that while you were out for a walk, you passed by Sarah's floor and saw a commotion. It looked like Sarah might be dead."

"What?"

Isabella's eyes widened in disbelief. "What do you mean?"

She didn't know the person downstairs wasn't Sarah. Hearing Antonio say this, she almost believed something had really happened to Sarah. After all, she had once admired Sarah.

Antonio stayed calm. "Make the call first, then we'll talk."

Isabella took a deep breath. Seeing his indifferent expression, she had a hunch. The person who had an accident was probably not Sarah. If Sarah were really dead, how could Antonio be so unaffected?

"Alright, I'll call him now."

Isabella took out her phone, finding Harold's number, and dialing.

It took a while for Harold to pick up. He sounded concerned, like an elder. "Isabella, how are you feeling? What's the matter?"

"Harold."

Isabella glanced at Antonio beside her and then sighed dramatically. "I've been lying down for a long time. I just went downstairs for a walk."

"Yes, a walk is good." Harold's voice sounded cheerful.

"But when I was coming back, I passed by Sarah's floor and saw a crowd. They said Sarah suddenly collapsed and needed resuscitation."

Her tone was full of regret and mixed emotions, making it hard to tell if it was true or false.

Harold didn't seem too surprised, just drawing out his response. "Oh, really? That's really unfortunate. Ms. Miller was so gentle and capable. How could this happen suddenly?"

Isabella sighed again. "I heard she's been recuperating in the hospital, but still..."

Harold comforted her. "Don't think too much about it. Maybe it was just her fate."

Whether it was an illusion or not, Harold's last words seemed to carry a bone-chilling malice.

Then he added, "But since you saw it, why not tell Benjamin? If something really happened to Sarah, he might be able to help. After all, they did have a bit of a history together."
