Chapter 182 Does he still love her?
Immediately, Harper smirked cunningly and casually turned off the lights.
As Ethan stared at the suddenly dark room, he paused for a moment and quickly stood up from his chair, asking, "What's wrong with Harper?"
"Shh, Ethan, don't speak for now..." Harper whispered, leaning against the door with a lowered voice.
Ethan furrowed his brow and felt puzzled. Just as he was about to ask again, he heard footsteps outside the door, and he immediately fell silent.
The person outside the door was Sarah, who was about to return to her room. Standing outside the door, she looked at it tightly closed. She wanted to open the door, but suddenly realized that the doorknob wouldn't turn.
It seemed to be locked from inside.
"Harper, Ethan, open the door for mommy, quickly." Sarah gently knocked on the door and spoke warmly, unaware of any anomalies at the moment.
Ethan was about to respond but was hushed by Harper's small hand covering his mouth.
Outside the door, Sarah didn't hear any noise. She furrowed her brows slightly, wondering... Did the two children fall asleep?
Are they sleeping so early today? But why is the door locked?
"Ethan, you're probably still awake... Open the door for mommy quickly."
Inside the room, Ethan glanced at Harper, feeling helpless in his heart. Mommy, why don't you just think that I'm already asleep!
Outside the door, just as Sarah was pondering about how to enter the room, Antonio came out of a nearby room. Seeing her stuck outside the door, he spoke gently, "They're probably asleep. The three kids played a bit tired today."
As soon as he finished speaking, Antonio hesitated for a few seconds and added, "Go sleep in my room."
Hearing this, Sarah finally noticed... At this moment, Antonio was dressed in casual clothes, devoid of his usual severity and coldness.
"No, I'll go sleep in the guest room." Sarah instinctively refused. How could she sleep in his room? Then what about her and him...
Antonio understood the woman's thoughts and chuckled, holding her hand with his warm, large palm.
"I'll sleep in the guest room, and you can sleep in my room. The big bed will be more comfortable."
"But..." Sarah was at a loss for words. How could she chase the owner of the room to the guest room?
Although she used to be the mistress of that room, the current situation was a bit special.
Seeing her failed refusal, she decided to express her intentions through actions...
Sarah turned around and walked towards the direction of the guest room.
Unexpectedly, the hand that had just been released was held by the man again.
Antonio looked at her with a hint of disappointment in his eyes, and his voice suddenly grew deeper, "You won't even give me a chance to prove myself?"
Sarah was stunned for a moment before feeling somewhat uncomfortable. "That's not what I meant."
"What did you mean? Do you not trust my words? Do you think I would take advantage of the situation?" Antonio said, his gaze momentarily darkening, and the grip on her hand tightened slightly.
"...Ouch." Sarah furrowed her brow and whispered softly.
Antonio suddenly realized and released his grip, his voice low, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to...
"I just..."
"I know."
Sarah could see the frustration on the man's face, knowing that Antonio had many concerns at the moment. After all, he was still in her 'trial period'.
"Then you..."
"I'll go sleep in the room."
In the end, Sarah compromised.
Since he said that, she didn't need to guard against him if he didn't want to share a room with her.
Antonio lowered his head, looking into her eyes. "Sarah, I hope you can trust me more and not keep your distance."
Every word was clear, and a hint of assertiveness could be seen on the handsome man's face.
He wanted to go back to how things were before, instead of constantly guessing each other's thoughts like they were now.
Meanwhile...
Harper, who was eavesdropping through the door, was getting increasingly frustrated!
"What's going on... why did Dad go sleep in the guest room? Ugh, why is he pretending to be serious at a time like this?" Harper complained angrily, feeling like she wasted her efforts.
Ethan tousled the girl's hair and turned on the light. "Just go to sleep, Harper. I knew it wouldn't work."
Mommy wasn't someone who could be easily compromised.
But this time, the Bad Guy seemed to be behaving like a gentleman, which scored him a point in Ethan's heart.
Sulking and annoyed, Harper pounded the blanket. "How can I sleep now?"
...
On the other side, Sarah came out of the bathroom and stared at the familiar room, lost in her thoughts.
She lay on the bed, closed her eyes, and told herself not to think too much, just sleep. But when she lowered her head, she saw something on the bedside table...
Two neatly arranged clay figures.
Her hand, about to turn off the light, froze for a moment before she slowly reached out and picked up the two adorable clay figures.
Due to being exposed to air for a long time, some parts of the clay had oxidized, but the faces of the two small figures were well preserved, indicating that the owner had taken good care of them and even repainted them.
Sarah glanced at the words on the bottom of the figures.
In that instant, memories flooded back, reminding her of the scene when she gave these clay figures to Antonio.
It was Antonio's birthday, shortly after they had just started dating.
Sarah knew that Antonio, being born into a wealthy family, lacked nothing. She had a hard time deciding on a gift and ended up learning to make clay figures.
At first, she thought she would only be able to give Antonio some failed attempts, but after practicing for who knows how long, they managed to make a pair that clearly resembled the two of them.
She was happy for several days back then, feeling nervous about whether he would like it or not.
Fortunately, on his birthday, Antonio said he really liked it, and only then did her anxious heart finally relax.
Now, seeing these two clay figures that hold so many of her thoughts, Sarah felt unexpected joy.
She thought those things had long been thrown away by Antonio, but he had kept them intact in their home, even placing them on the bedside table.
It was as if something gently scratched her heart, even though it wasn't a big deal, she couldn't shake it off.
The faint touch that seemed almost nonexistent.
When she heard it from Harper's mouth, she thought Harper was just trying to please Antonio for her sake. But now... it's all true.
He has been keeping well the things she gave him.
Does it mean that he still loves her?
