Chapter 786 I'm Embarrassed Again
Mary awkwardly exited the ward, saying, "Sorry."
But as soon as the door closed, she regretted it.
She thought, 'Wait a minute! I am here to ask about Cynthia. Why do I leave?'
She had originally gone to the ward to see Cynthia but overheard the nurses discussing something about transferring hospitals.
When she asked, they said Timothy was already preparing the transfer paperwork!
Mary naturally felt surprised. She had intended to ask Sarah if she had decided on the transfer.
But now, she decided not to disturb the loving couple and instead went to find Timothy.
Mary arrived at Timothy's office, her face still flushed.
Timothy had already finished his nap and was reviewing Antonio's medical examination results in his office.
After all, the surgery was risky, and he needed to be well-prepared.
Seeing Mary, he looked puzzled. "Why is your face so red?"
Timothy's cool voice inexplicably calmed her down.
"Nothing." Mary clutched her bag's strap tightly and whispered, "It's too hot outside, and I walked too fast."
She couldn't possibly tell him she saw Sarah and Antonio kissing, could she? That would be too embarrassing.
Timothy's brow furrowed slightly as he glanced at her.
In this weather, it should be cold.
A flash of doubt crossed his eyes, but he didn't press the topic further. His calm voice was steady, "What do you need?"
"Oh, right," Mary remembered her purpose and took a couple of steps forward.
"I wanted to ask about Cynthia's transfer." She licked her dry lips and continued, "I just heard the nurses discussing it. Isn't her condition still unstable? She hasn't even woken up from the surgery yet. Wouldn't transferring her suddenly be bad?"
The more she spoke, the lower her voice became, as if lacking confidence.
Timothy stopped what he was doing and stared at her.
Mary's gaze wandered, her freshly licked lips glistening. Though her tone was polite, her small frame stood straight, exuding a hint of stubbornness.
He smirked, "Her family has agreed. Do you have an objection?"
Mary froze, instinctively waving her hand and explaining, "No, but you know Cynthia and I are very close. She relies on me a lot. I'm just worried that if she transfers to Capital City and can't see me often, she might get upset. Can't I ask about it?"
Her tone was cautious, with a hint of subtle grievance.
She was just concerned about Cynthia. Why did Timothy think of her that way?
Mary bit her lip, clutching her bag even tighter, her knuckles turning pale.
Timothy noticed her biting her lip, his eyes darkening, "We've decided to transfer her after a thorough evaluation. You don't need to ask more."
Cynthia's condition wasn't perfect, but it wasn't terrible either.
She would be the same anywhere.
Moreover, transferring her back to Capital City was just an excuse.
But he couldn't tell Mary that. With her kind nature, she might worry and spill the beans to Sarah.
However, his voice lacked warmth, sounding cold to Mary, chilling her to the core.
He was so gentle with patients but so indifferent to her, not even wanting to say an extra word.
Mary stared at her toes, feeling stifled.
"So, Cynthia's health won't be affected?" She just wanted to confirm that.
Timothy's brow twitched, and he replied coldly, "No."
"I understand." Mary adjusted her breathing, mustered the courage to look at him, and said, "Sorry for disturbing your work."
Then she turned and left quickly.
Once outside the office, she leaned against the wall, exhaling heavily, holding back the tears welling up.
She had no reason to be angry. Timothy had helped her a lot. Without him, Cynthia might not have even had the surgery. She should be grateful. But why did she feel so sad?
In the other ward, the couple had no idea Mary had gone to Timothy about Cynthia and had a bit of an unpleasant encounter.
The earlier tender moment was interrupted, and Sarah pushed Antonio away.
"Look at you," She glared at him, "Mary saw us!"
Mary was easily embarrassed; she was probably blushing again.
Antonio chuckled and pulled her back into his arms, "So what? We're married. Isn't this normal?"
He then stole a kiss from her cheek.
Sarah didn't get angry, "Stop it. What if someone else sees us? I'll be embarrassed."
She took Antonio's hand off her waist and held it in her palm, fingers interlocked. "Let's go. We need to find Dr. Reed."
Antonio helped her fix her hair, "Let's think positively. Cynthia has had the surgery and is doing much better. Once we get back to Capital City, she'll recover slowly."
Sarah took a deep breath, "Yeah."
In the doctor's office, Sarah sensed a strange, heavy atmosphere. Timothy, sitting behind the desk, seemed unapproachable.
Sarah hesitated, then knocked on the door, "Dr. Reed, is this a good time?"
Timothy looked up, his cold demeanor softening slightly, "It's fine. Did something happen with Cynthia?"
"No." The couple walked in.
"I wanted to ask about Cynthia's condition," Sarah said, frowning with worry, "Wouldn't transferring her now affect her recovery?"
Timothy's eyes flickered as he took out Cynthia's scans from the drawer. "Transferring her now is beneficial."
"Beneficial?" Sarah was even more confused, "Cynthia is still in a coma. Wouldn't transferring her be troublesome?"
And it was not just transferring from one hospital to another; it was to Capital City, which involved a two to three-hour flight. Could she handle that?
"Sorry." Timothy stood up, holding the medical records, and placed them in front of her. "I was worried about your emotional state before, so I didn't tell you Cynthia's actual condition. But since we're transferring her, you have the right to know the truth."
His deep gaze shifted slightly, meeting Antonio's eyes. They shared a mutual understanding.
Sarah noticed their exchange but didn't think much of it.
After all, Timothy had explained why he hadn't told her.
It seemed he had discussed it with Antonio.
She glanced at Antonio, her worry deepening, "The truth? Cynthia had the surgery. Is there something else wrong with her?"
"Yes."
