Chapter 61 Let's Go to the Police Station
The next morning, Antonio hit up James to take Sarah to the police station.
Sarah had been waiting for this day forever and felt a bit jittery on the way.
How was Brady holding up in there? Had he been through the wringer? Was anyone giving him a hard time?
When she rolled up outside the police station, it felt like the sky was even gloomier here, and the hallways were dead quiet, with only the sound of heavy footsteps echoing. The place was not only basic, but the air was also super damp.
Thinking about how long Brady had been stuck here, Sarah's clear, beautiful eyes filled with frustration and tears.
She stood waiting in the meeting room.
Just then, the door across from her creaked open, and Brady, dressed in detention clothes, walked in.
He had a handsome face and clear eyes. Even though he looked a bit worn out, his refined and gentle vibe was still there, making it hard to believe he could ever do anything shady.
As Brady looked through the glass, he saw a woman who looked just like the late Sarah, and he was instantly shook!
His previously dull eyes suddenly lit up, filled with nostalgia. "Sarah?"
Was she really Sarah?
Hadn't Sarah died ages ago?
"Brady, it's me, Sarah." Sarah's voice trembled as she clenched her fists, trying to keep it together. "Brady, I'm still alive."
They hadn't seen each other for five years, and now they were meeting like this.
She should have come back sooner, taken Brady away from this mess, and then none of this would have happened.
Thinking this, she felt a deep sense of guilt.
When Brady heard the familiar "Brady," his eyes instantly reddened. He placed his hands on the glass, wishing he could tear down the barrier between them.
"Sarah, you're alive! Where have you been these five years? Have you been okay?"
Why did she look different?
Even though he didn't believe in fate, at this moment, he just wanted to thank God for bringing Sarah back!
No matter how Sarah had changed, as long as she was alive and well, that was enough.
Sarah nodded with tears in her eyes and also reached out her hand, placing her palm against Brady's through the glass, "Yeah, I'm doing well." She was doing well abroad and had three smart and well-behaved kids.
Sarah carefully checked out Brady, and after confirming he hadn't been mistreated, she felt a bit relieved.
She had so much to say, but now wasn't the time for reminiscing; she had more important things to do.
"Brady, I know you got set up. Tell me what happened that night, and I'll bust you out!"
Mentioning that night, Brady's body stiffened, and his eyes darkened.
After a long while, he sighed and recalled. "That night, I went to work at the hotel as usual. I didn't know Lusa was having a birthday party there. She and her friends deliberately made things difficult for me, but I ignored them. Later on, I don't know what got into me. I have no memory of it, but I nearly did that to Lusa."
Brady continued, as if remembering something, "But that day, I had a cold. Before going to the banquet hall to mix drinks, a colleague reminded me not to pass on my cold to the guests and gave me a cold pill. I didn't think it was strange at the time, but now that I think about it, could there have been something wrong with that cold pill?"
Sarah's expression grew serious, her eyes icy. She gritted her teeth and said, "I get it."
In the surveillance video, Brady's behavior looked scary, but she noticed his flushed face and abnormal state. She guessed Brady must have been drugged!
She knew Brady would never assault anyone, let alone touch someone like Lusa!
At this moment, all the clues came together. It must have been Lusa who bribed Brady's colleague, tricked Brady into taking the drug, staged a scene, and arranged for witnesses, framing Brady!
To set up Brady, Lisa and Lusa really went all out.
With that, Sarah asked Brady some questions about that colleague. Finally, she nodded and looked firmly at Brady. "I'll dig into this right away. Brady, don't worry, I will get you out!"
Outside the police station, James was chilling in the car waiting. Before long, he saw Sarah striding out, her face super grim. Seeing this, James felt a sudden unease.
Why did she come out so quickly?
And why did Sarah look like she was ready to tear someone apart?
But today, he was just the driver and didn't dare to ask too many questions.
"Should we head back to the villa?"
Sarah's voice was as cold as her expression, "No, go to the Grand Horizon Hotel."
James quickly nodded, not asking any more questions, and started the car.
Upon arriving at the Grand Horizon Hotel, Sarah went straight to the banquet hall on the 18th floor. She stopped a female employee and asked for someone named Rio Bishop, the colleague Brady had mentioned.
The female employee didn't recognize Sarah and, seeing her dressed plainly and not looking like a customer, didn't show any courtesy. "Rio isn't here!"
After saying that, the female employee was about to leave, but Sarah stopped her again, exuding an even stronger presence. "Where did he go?"
The trial was about to start, and Rio was the only witness. She had to find him quickly to testify for Brady!
The female employee, intimidated by Sarah's sharp gaze, lost half her momentum. "He resigned."
Resigned?
Sarah had a bad feeling, asking, "Why did he resign?"
The female employee said, "I don't know, he said it was for personal reasons."
Hearing this, Sarah's face turned extremely grim. She asked the female employee a few more questions and finally got Rio's contact information and address.
However, she couldn't get through on the phone, clutching her cell phone tightly, a sense of foreboding growing stronger.
Sarah urged, "James, drive faster!"
"This is already the fastest."
Any faster and it would be speeding!
James glanced at the anxious Sarah through the rearview mirror, gritted his teeth, and pressed harder on the gas pedal.
As soon as they arrived at Rio's apartment building, Sarah got out of the car before it even stopped. It was an old neighborhood with no elevator, and she ran up to the sixth floor in one breath.
Without taking a moment to catch her breath, Sarah knocked on the door, asking, "Is Rio here?"
However, the door was ajar. She pushed it open, and the place was already empty.
Her premonition had come true. Seeing the empty apartment, Sarah's heart sank to the bottom.
Given the urgency, she immediately sent a message to Brian.
"Brian, quickly help Mommy find someone."
She sent Rio's information to Brian, and within seconds, she received a reply.
"Mommy, Rio flew to Eldoria last Wednesday. I'm looking for his current location, but it will take some time."
Eldoria, it was quite a distance to cover, especially at this time.
Everything was so coincidental, which could only mean someone was orchestrating this from behind the scenes.
Now that he had fled, and the surveillance was unfavorable to Brady, she could only hope Brian would quickly find Rio and bring him back to testify for Brady at the trial.
There was nothing more to find here, so Sarah sighed and returned to the villa.
However, as soon as she got back to the villa, bad news followed. She received a call from the lawyer saying Lusa had requested an earlier trial. "The victim has requested to move the trial date from five days later to tomorrow, and the court has just approved the application."
"Tomorrow?" Sarah's still unsettled emotions flared up again. How could she bring Rio back from Eldoria within a day?
Not to mention, Rio was probably already bribed by Lusa. Convincing him to testify would take time.
Right now, she had no other evidence to prove Brady's innocence. She had no leverage. If they went to trial like this, wouldn't Brady be convicted?
Sarah was anxious and restless.
"Luna, you're back!" At that moment, Harper ran out to greet her.
She knew Sarah had gone to see Brady today and had been waiting in her room for good news.
Harper was holding a half-eaten apple, her chubby face full of anticipation as she bounced towards Sarah.
However, Sarah was preoccupied with the trial tomorrow. Hearing Harper's voice, she barely reacted and only nodded slightly before walking past Harper in a daze.
Her eyes were unfocused as she walked upstairs, her steps heavy.
Harper stood there, bewildered. 'Didn't Sarah go to see Brady? Why does she look so unhappy? Did something happen to Brady?'
Antonio, standing behind Harper, watched Sarah's retreating figure in silence, his eyes darkening.
