Chapter 597 Bewitched
Both of them stood frozen in place. In the silent yard, the fog was thick, and only the sound of their breathing remained.
He looked at her, feeling something that he had never felt before.
For the first time, his heart beat violently because of a woman.
This was the first time they had coexisted so harmoniously. After an unknown amount of time, a sound from outside the yard brought their thoughts back.
Sarah hurriedly averted her gaze, sniffing her reddened nose. She had just lost her composure.
"Why don't we go inside? It's a bit cold out here."
Benjamin's eyes flashed with amusement, and said, "All right."
How had he never noticed before that this woman could be quite adorable at times?
Sarah didn't dare look at him again. She adjusted her bathrobe and walked into the house first. The sound of steady, powerful footsteps followed her, causing her to lose her rhythm somewhat.
In the living room, Sarah sat on the sofa without moving, looking at the person not far away with very complicated feelings.
This person acted naturally as if he were in his own home.
Benjamin happened to see a cup on the table and, not knowing what else to do, made a cup of coffee. His every move was filled with elegance.
He placed a cup in front of Sarah, and suggested, "Drink it while it's hot."
Sarah had just soaked in the hot tub and was a bit nervous, so she was already sweating a little. But she still picked up the cup and took a careful sip.
It was really hot.
She quickly put the cup down and glanced at the man beside her, asking, "Those injuries on your shoulder..."
Sarah gestured to her own shoulder and said, "They look deep. Are they serious?"
When she asked this, she felt both happy and nervous inside.
The large, deep scar on Benjamin's shoulder was in the same place where she had once bitten Antonio's shoulder!
Although this scar looked much more severe than a bite.
But she couldn't help but feel a surge of hope, thinking there might be some unique discovery, yet a sense of heartache spread in her chest.
If the person in front of her was really Antonio…
How had he endured such a long recovery?
Sarah thought about how he had completely forgotten her, gone through so much pain, and had other women. Her heart felt like it was being tightly gripped by a large hand, making it hard to breathe.
The pain in her eyes was genuine.
Benjamin saw all her pity without missing a beat.
He really didn't want to talk about the car accident, but at that moment, he felt like he couldn't say anything.
"This was before the car accident," the man said seriously, "I was with my company team on a research trip in the wilderness and accidentally encountered a tiger. There was nothing we could do."
Sarah's red eyes stared at him without blinking. She asked, "A tiger?! And then what happened?"
Benjamin shrugged as if troubled, "Everyone was scared, but I had to face it. You can imagine how fierce an American tiger is, so I..."
The little woman beside him still had tears in her eyes.
He suddenly felt mischievous and regretfully frowned.
He began to explain, "Of course, I couldn't beat the tiger. I wasn't careful and had a chunk of flesh clawed out." Benjamin shook his head with his eyes closed as if recalling something unbearable and continued, "To the tiger, it was just a swipe."
Sara asked, bewildered, "A tiger? It clawed out a chunk of your shoulder?"
Sarah was dumbfounded, forgetting her previous thoughts.
Fighting a tiger?
Really?
She found it hard to believe that anyone could fight a tiger.
But the man spoke so vividly, and the wound on his shoulder did look like a chunk of flesh had been gouged out.
Seeing her being fooled by his words, Benjamin felt great and sighed, nodding, "Tigers are very fierce."
He leaned forward slightly, clearing his throat.
This movement conveniently hid his upturned mouth. When he looked up again, his eyes met Sarah's.
At some point, the distance between them had closed.
Benjamin could see her long eyelashes and his reflection in her clear eyes.
The fragrance from the woman wafted over, her red lips moist and glossy.
He couldn't help but lean in slowly.
Sarah was still thinking about his fight with the tiger, finding it unbelievable. When she came to her senses, she saw the handsome face in front of her getting closer.
The man's features were like a painting, with a high nose bridge, perfectly shaped lips, a clear jawline, and a prominent Adam's apple, all just as she remembered.
She heard the sound of her heartbeat and the boiling of her blood.
Just as their lips were about to touch, Sarah pulled back, and said, "Benjamin, don't."
Her breath was unsteady as she spoke, closing her eyes in frustration.
How had she almost been bewitched by the atmosphere and nearly kissed this man?
This couldn't happen.
Whether he was Antonio or not, their current behavior was wrong. Benjamin had a fiancée, and he should be loyal to her.
Sarah took a deep breath, knowing she couldn't continue being so emotionally confused. She quickly composed herself, stood up, and said, "It's getting late, Benjamin. You should go back and rest. There's work tomorrow."
Benjamin maintained his previous posture for a while, his eyes darkening.
He looked up at her, and Sarah's eyes were devoid of any emotion.
As if the earlier tenderness was just an illusion.
Benjamin smirked, and remarked, "Sarah, it's no wonder you're so good at managing two companies. Not only can you control your emotions, but you can also separate business from personal matters. Truly admirable."
His words were calm, making it hard to tell if he was mocking or genuinely complimenting her.
Sarah pressed her lips together, her gaze freezing for a moment.
"Benjamin, you're joking. I just think it's late, and your fiancé is probably waiting for you," she said, to remind Benjamin and herself.
They could only have a professional relationship.
No personal matters should occur outside of work.
Benjamin, of course, understood her underlying message. The slight disappointment from being rejected vanished instantly.
So, she was concerned about this?
