Chapter 700 Antonio Deceived Her Because of His Fiancée
Benjamin finally snapped back to reality, veins bulging on his forehead, and his eyes turning bloodshot in an instant.
His well-defined fingers nearly crushed the phone, but he was completely unaware.
"It's nothing. I suddenly feel unwell. Let's pause the meeting. If you have any questions, ask Daniel," Benjamin said.
Withe that, he stood up abruptly, almost stumbling.
He refused the help of those who tried to assist him, closing his eyes tightly.
There were Harold's people in the company, so he had to suppress all his emotions and stride out of the conference room.
It wasn't until he reached the garage that he started running like a madman. Once in the car, he drove at top speed while frantically redialing Sarah's number.
No matter how many times he called, there was no answer.
He slammed the steering wheel hard, his jaw trembling as he tried to control himself.
'Sarah, please be okay,' he prayed inwardly.
He couldn't allow anything to happen to her!
Benjamin pressed the gas pedal harder, weaving through traffic skillfully, and soon arrived at the hospital.
He stumbled to the front desk and asked in a deep voice, "Is there a pregnant woman named Sarah here?"
He held his breath, waiting for an answer.
The nurse typed on the computer and replied, "Yes, there is a pregnant woman named Sarah. She is currently undergoing a comprehensive check-up in the OB-GYN department on the third floor."
Before she finished speaking, Benjamin turned and ran towards the fire escape, taking the stairs two at a time.
Reaching the OB-GYN department, he grabbed someone and asked, "Where is Sarah?"
The nurse, startled by his sweaty appearance, was taken aback.
Benjamin shouted coldly, "Where is Sarah?"
He couldn't care about anything else now. Images of Sarah kept flashing through his mind, and he felt immense guilt for not being more attentive to her, not even knowing she was in the hospital!
The nurse nervously swallowed and pointed inside. "Sarah is still undergoing a check-up there."
Benjamin glanced up and, without hesitation, tried to go in, muttering to himself, "It's just a check-up. Sarah will be fine. She has to be."
The nurse, realizing his overreaction was because of Sarah, was no longer as scared and quickly followed to stop him. "Sir, you can't just go in."
Benjamin's eyes were bloodshot, and he stopped in his tracks.
"It's not a surgery room. Why can't I go in?" he asked.
"But this is the OB-GYN department. We have a duty to protect the patient's privacy, and the patient's condition is still unstable," the nurse said, looking troubled. "Only the husband of the pregnant woman can go in. What is your relationship with Ms. Miller?"
He wanted to say that they were indeed married, but he couldn't.
With Harold's people watching, the relationship had to be kept secret. He even had to pretend he didn't remember anything to avoid bringing hidden danger to Sarah and the children.Benjamin looked at the examination room just a door away, feeling a heart-wrenching pain.
Sarah was on the other side of the door, yet he didn’t even have the right to inquire about her condition.
He had never hated his identity as "Benjamin" more than at this moment!
He clenched his fists tightly, leaning against the wall in agony.
The word "husband" made him feel utterly unqualified. All his efforts during this time seemed like a joke!
'What good is it to avoid Harold's suspicion? If something happens to Sarah, everything will be in vain!' he thought.
He lowered his head, and the nurse couldn't see his expression, still trying to usher him out. "Sir, why don't you wait in the rest area outside?"
"No!"
Benjamin's hoarse and struggling voice was full of suppression.
Revealing his identity now would nullify all the previous efforts to conceal it. Yet, he couldn't simply stand by while Sarah and the children were in danger.
Seconds passed like an eternity.
Benjamin slowly raised his head, his voice full of pain and guilt, breaking down. "I am her husband. Let me in!"
Inside the examination room, Sarah had already completed all the check-ups.
She was actually fine, and her condition had stabilized.
Everything earlier was just a play she had the medical staff help her with.
Although she had already obtained the DNA test results and knew that Benjamin was Antonio, hearing him admit it himself still made Sarah cry uncontrollably.
She hadn't expected him to really admit it!
She covered her mouth, trying not to cry out loud.
The doctor had just removed the fetal heart monitor from her belly and quickly handed her a tissue, comforting, "Ms. Miller, you need to try to calm your emotions. Don't let your emotions fluctuate too much. Stay calm."
As she spoke, she gently patted Sarah's back.
This comfort was effective, and Sarah quickly adjusted her emotions.
The doctor was right. She had just startled the baby. No matter what happened now, she couldn't let anything happen to the baby in her belly.
This baby was already very good and had been through a lot.
Sarah wiped away her tears, commanding herself not to get lost in her emotions.
Outside, the nurse opened the door at the right moment, reminding, "The pregnant woman really can't be stimulated anymore. Be extra careful."
Benjamin, stunned, had no idea that the stimulation Sarah had suffered was because of him.
When he walked in and saw Sarah awake and unharmed on the hospital bed, his heart finally settled."Sarah! How are you feeling now?" he asked, his bloodshoteyes glistening with tears and filled with genuine pity and concern.
Sarah looked at the familiar face in front of her, momentarily dazed and speechless.
She didn't know what Benjamin—or, more precisely—Antonio had been through and why he had pretended not to know her for so long.
Sarah's mind kept replaying everything that had happened between her and "Benjamin" during this time. She felt a buzzing in her ears, unable to make sense of it.
'If "Benjamin" is really a completely different person, why had he kept approaching me from the moment we met?
'But why did he do this? For fun?' she thought.
Sarah suddenly thought of Isabella and smiled bitterly, as if she had found a reason.'Is it due to the sudden appearance of his fiancée, Isabella?' she suspected.
