Chapter 403 A Father's Apology
The sudden appearance of two Ethans left Sarah sighing in resignation. She understood that the time for secrets had passed.
"Antonio," she began, her voice calm and soothing, "I'll explain everything, but first, please sit down." She gently guided Antonio to a chair, motioning for the three children to gather before her.
With a hand resting on both Brian and Ethan's shoulders, Sarah began her revelation. "As you can see, I am actually the mother of three children. This is Brian, Ethan's identical twin. He has been living abroad until recently."
Antonio's jaw slackened, his gaze shifting from Ethan to Brian in disbelief. "So... I have two sons?" he stammered.
Sarah, a blush of embarrassment tinting her cheeks, nodded. "I didn't tell you because the right moment never seemed to come. Then, life got in the way. I'm sorry," she confessed, her gaze meeting Antonio's.
But Antonio seemed to barely register her words. Instead, he crouched before Brian, pulling him into a sudden, tight embrace. The gesture left the room in stunned silence. What was happening?
Brian, too, was taken aback. Why was Antonio apologizing to him?
"I'm sorry, my son..." Antonio murmured, his voice choked with emotion. "You've suffered so much over the years. If I had known about you earlier, you wouldn't have had to live alone!"
His voice trembled with regret. "My name is Antonio, I'm your biological father. I'm truly sorry for not being there for you... Have you been doing well? Have you faced any hardships?"
Brian remained silent, his gaze fixed on the tear-streaked face of the man claiming to be his father. Shouldn't his first reaction be anger at the deception? They had kept this secret for so long, and now all Antonio wanted to do was apologize...
Harper, who held a special place in her heart for Antonio, stepped forward, gently touching his cheek. "Dad, don't worry. Brian has been doing really well."
At her words, Antonio's heart seemed to thaw. He pulled all three children into a tight embrace.
"I'm truly sorry, my children. If I had been more vigilant, this wouldn't have happened today."
Fear crept into Antonio's heart. He had almost lost all three of his children.
"I swear, from now on, as long as I live, I will protect you. I won't let anyone who has hurt you go unpunished."
Anger no longer had a place in Antonio's heart. Instead, he felt a sense of awe. Not only had he gained another son, but this son was exceptional, capable of living independently at such a young age. The clever use of Morse code had been a testament to that.
Having a son like this was a blessing, a gift from heaven. It was enough to make him feel like a king...
Boasting for a lifetime.
Brian squirmed slightly in Antonio's embrace, not out of disgust, but rather embarrassment. Antonio could understand why his eldest son seemed colder, more mature compared to Ethan.
"You mentioned punishing the bad guys?" Brian asked, scratching his finger absentmindedly.
"Yes," Antonio confirmed, "Jason owns more than just this one casino. People like him rarely engage in legitimate businesses. Even if they do, it's mostly for money laundering. He's known for his bullying tactics, and I've gathered all the information on his wrongdoings."
Brian nodded nonchalantly, "I also found some information about him, including his previous criminal records. He indeed has some illegal business dealings, and that scar-faced man is involved too. These two have committed quite a number of bad deeds behind the scenes; otherwise, they wouldn't be able to sustain such a large casino.
"They could amass sufficient temporary evidence against him, instigate charges of abduction, intimidation, and life endangerment, and present the pertinent proof to guarantee his sentence to capital punishment."
Upon hearing this, Antonio turned to Brian, his expression filled with incredulity. He had not anticipated such a level of thoughtfulness from his son, and the proposed strategy was indeed justifiable and well-grounded.
Speaking with a tranquil and mature demeanor, Brian bore no distinction from the general managers at Antonio's firm. It appeared that the company had a worthy successor in waiting.
Brian subtly avoided Antonio's intense scrutiny. He hadn't been idly whiling away his time in that seat. With the adversaries already at their doorstep, it was only natural for him to gather as much information as possible about this individual.
Given Brian's capabilities, unearthing someone's entire history was a simple task. Knowledge of the enemy and oneself was the key to assured victory.
Antonio shared the same sentiment. Upon receiving Sarah's message, he had not only made arrangements outside the casino but also had his men thoroughly investigate the head of Evergreen Chess Club, Jason. He held in his possession all the information about Jason's illicit business transactions and activities.
Suddenly, a smile spread across Sarah's face as she remarked, "I hadn't expected the two of you to be so well-aligned."
