Chapter 136 She Will Never Forgive Him
Ethan yanked Harper away, shooting Antonio a look that screamed, "Back off, dude."
Antonio had snuck over to see Harper while Ethan and Sarah were out.
That sneaky bastard was probably trying to mess with Harper's head again!
Good thing Ethan showed up just in time, or Harper, who had finally started thinking straight, might've fallen for Antonio's crap again.
Seeing Ethan's "stay away" vibe, Antonio threw up his hands and took a couple of steps back, like, "Hey, I'm not here to cause trouble."
Ethan didn't give a damn and dragged Harper off, not even bothering to find Sarah first.
As they walked, Ethan suddenly stopped, spun around, and grabbed Harper by the shoulders. "Harper, did that bad daddy say some weird stuff to mess with you again?"
Harper looked up a bit and mumbled, "He said he believes we didn't hurt Ryan."
Ethan's face went all serious, and he cut her off, "Don't buy into his BS. Remember how he tricked you before?"
Antonio was just trying to pull one over on Harper.
Harper was too innocent to see through his lies.
Worried Harper might not get it, Ethan added, "Mommy trusted that jerk and married him, and look how that turned out. Harper, don't let him fool you again!"
But Ethan didn't want to come down too hard on Harper. He figured she was just too trusting; the real villain was Antonio.
So, he ruffled Harper's hair and gently reminded her, "Harper, stay firm, trust mommy, and don't let bad daddy mess with your head again."
Harper pouted and whispered, "Okay, I'll be strong this time."
But her downcast eyes showed a flicker of doubt.
Harper said she'd be strong, but inside, she was all mixed up. 'Oh man, I'm wavering again. What do I do? Don't make me choose something so tough!'
Seeing her like that, Ethan couldn't help but worry, thinking Harper was still confused.
With Antonio's sudden appearance, Ethan quickly suggested heading back to the room.
He wasn't about to give Antonio another shot at getting close to Harper!
Sarah didn't think twice and took the kids back.
That evening, after Sarah bathed the kids and got them to sleep, she couldn't fall asleep herself.
She watched the kids' peaceful faces for a bit, then quietly slipped out of bed and headed to the balcony for some fresh air.
The hotel's spot was prime, and being on the 20th floor, the view was killer. The night was lit up with all kinds of lights, like a beautiful painting.
Sarah took a deep breath of the cool air, and her mind started to clear.
But when she glanced to the right, she unexpectedly locked eyes with someone whose gaze was more dazzling than the stars in the night.
She instinctively frowned, her chill vibe instantly turning tense, and she was about to bounce.
Why the hell was Antonio on the balcony too?
Couldn't she catch a break?
But then Antonio hit her with a low, "Do you really wanna divorce me that bad?"
Sarah froze, a flicker of hesitation in her eyes.
It was rare for Antonio to bring up the D-word.
And he didn't sound pissed or anything, just... calm, which threw her off.
Sarah shot back coldly, "Duh."
She'd lost track of how many times she'd asked for a divorce, and they'd fought about it a million times.
Did she look like someone who didn't want out?
Antonio's face darkened, and he stayed quiet.
Sarah glanced at him, not giving a damn what he was thinking, and added icily, "Our marriage ended years ago, didn't it?"
But Antonio still kept his mouth shut, like he wasn't planning to answer.
Seeing this, Sarah thought of something and couldn't help but sneer, "Don't tell me you don't want a divorce now 'cause you love me."
She remembered all his promises, all that crap about never marrying anyone else, about her being the only wife he'd ever have. Total BS.
She could never forget his betrayal.
He'd hooked up with Lisa, the person she hated most, and had a kid, Ryan.
That was something she could never forgive!
Hearing Sarah's cold and ruthless mockery, a flash of pain seemed to flicker in Antonio's deep eyes.
After that, Sarah didn't want to stick around.
She shot him a disdainful look and went back to the room without a backward glance, locking the balcony door tight behind her.
Antonio stood there alone, watching Sarah's figure fade into the darkness, his expression growing more dejected.
He stood against the backdrop of the dazzling neon night, staring at the closed door for a long time.
Despite the bright lights, his eyes were so deep that no light could reach them.
His hair swayed with the night wind, and the gloom and heaviness on his face were clear as day.
After a while, Antonio lowered his eyes, and a sigh drifted into the night wind; only loneliness remained.
In room 2022, after locking the balcony door, Sarah also yanked the curtains shut, like she wanted to completely shut Antonio out.
She quietly went back to the kids' side and lay down.
Even though she wanted to crash immediately, her mind was racing.
Sarah stared at the ceiling, feeling wide awake.
She turned over and couldn't help but sigh.
Maybe it was that brief convo with Antonio earlier, but her thoughts started drifting back to a few years ago.
