Chapter 528 Ominous Feelings
Upon hearing that, the kids fought back their sadness and gracefully ate the food she offered.
No tears! They couldn't bear to make their mom more upset than she already was!
Kevin's heart ached watching the kids eat with lowered heads, barely holding back their tears. Once they were almost done, he turned to Ryan. "Ryan... why don't you take your brother and sister out to play for a while? Grandpa needs to talk with your mom."
Ryan climbed down from his chair, worried, but nodded. "Okay."
Having finished their meals, Ethan and Harper hopped down and took their brother's hand. They tried to look less sad as they said, "Mommy, you've worked hard. So have you, Grandpa! See you later!"
Sarah felt a swell of pride looking at them.
"Go on and play," she encouraged.
Kevin sighed once Ryan, Ethan, and Harper were out of sight.
Antonio's passing was a tragedy indeed.
But when would his daughter start to recover?
She was also pregnant with another child. With this ongoing stress, her health would eventually deteriorate.
"Sarah..." Kevin deliberated before speaking, "It's been a long time... Maybe we should try to move forward. What do you say?"
He couldn't bear to see his daughter in such enduring agony.
As Sarah was cleaning up, she paused, and a tear unexpectedly dropped into the bowl, leaving just a trace of moisture on her lashes.
Seeing her silent, Kevin steeled himself and continued, "Antonio wouldn't want to see you like this. He must be watching over you from heaven, hoping you and the kids will be alright."
He had witnessed the depth of Antonio's love for Sarah.
But the dead were gone, and the living must press on.
"Dad, I know," whispered Sarah, so softly it seemed meant only for her ears. "I'll get better... but maybe Antonio is still out here in the world. Let's just wait a bit longer..."
Waiting, not yet giving up.
To date, the search teams hadn't discovered Antonio's body. The limbs that were recovered and identified through DNA didn't belong to him but to Serene.
Could it be possible that Antonio had managed to push her away as they fell from the cliff?
After all, there was no evidence to suggest he was gone for good.
No news was good news, right?
Seeing his daughter try to put on a brave face broke Kevin’s heart. He wished he could do more, understanding the turmoil she felt inside. He hated that he couldn’t alleviate some of the burden weighing on her shoulders.
Sarah had just finished tidying up the dishes in the kitchen when her phone buzzed in her pocket.
Pulling it out, she saw James was calling.
Since Antonio’s accident, Sarah had taken the reins of Valencia Inc. and Sutton Inc., dealing with all their big and small matters. The constant rush kept her mind off the sorrow.
Under her leadership, both companies were thriving, even outperforming their previous records. She was always capable of this.
For Sarah, this wasn’t just a job. It carried Antonio’s legacy, his responsibilities.
And she had to succeed.
James, devoted to Valencia Inc. and privy to all its internal affairs, naturally became her right-hand man.
She answered the phone, her voice all business with no hint of emotion.
"James, what's up?"
"Ms. Miller, the Pine Mountain project has hit a snag. Should I come pick you up?" James had never changed the way he addressed her
After checking the clock once she withdrew the phone from her ear, she decided, "No need to trouble yourself. I’ll drive there."
Balancing the phone between her shoulder and ear, she used her free hand to loosen her apron.
"Alright, I'll have the documents ready at the office," James agreed.
After hanging up, Sarah swiftly climbed the stairs to change into a fresh outfit. She then informed Kevin, "Dad, I've got to step out for a bit for work. If you need anything, just call the bodyguard or reach out to me."
Kevin, caught up in playtime with the kids, nodded in acknowledgment.
"Drive safely," he added with care.
The kids waved goodbye, chanting, "Bye, Mommy!"
"Be good." Sarah smiled softly, turning to head downstairs.
Upon leaving the house for the garage, an inexplicable sense of dread washed over her. Her steps didn't falter, but she couldn't help covering her chest with her hand.
Why did she have this... ominous feeling?
