Chapter 586 Fighting Back Tears
Alex paused and looked down.
The buttons on her blouse were undone, and from this angle, one could vaguely see the scenery inside. The graceful curves were mysteriously enticing, invisibly carrying a fatal attraction.
Right now, it seemed like he couldn't resist this allure.
"What's wrong?"
For a while, Sofia hadn't noticed his actions. When she finally turned her head, she found herself colliding with his deep, ocean-like eyes, which unmistakably revealed a hidden fire within.
This man was seducing her again.
Sofia didn't move.
As their eyes met, it felt as if sparks were flying, and the air around them gradually emitted a fascinating color, thick but gradually thinning, causing their breathing to become heavier.
"Sophia..." Alex's voice held a hint of restraint and self-control. The remaining trace of rationality crumbled when he saw her innocent gaze.
He reached out and lifted Sofia's chin, bringing them closer in an instant. "Can I? "
His voice was enticing, making it impossible to refuse.
Sofia wouldn't refuse either; after all, the person in front of her was Alex. Though she didn't say anything, she took the initiative to lean forward and gently peck his lips.
In an instant, passion ignited.
After it was over, Sofia fell asleep immediately. Alex gazed at her flushed face, unable to resist a chuckle, and leaned in to give her a kiss.
He rolled off the bed, picked up the clothes on the floor, and walked out of the room.
The towel that was dropped earlier was still lying on the living room carpet. Alex picked it up and placed it nearby, then dutifully tidied up Sofia's things.
Her bag was casually scattered on the sofa, with things falling out of it. It was a mess.
Alex's gaze was suddenly drawn to a gift box, with the logo of a well-known international watch brand on it.
This brand's watches were usually custom-made, and each model was a limited edition, belonging to the category of priceless.
Alex casually opened it and took a look. It was a style that had appeared in magazines before, with a more neutral design that could be worn by both men and women.
It wasn't surprising for Sophia to have access to this watch; her connections were quite broad.
He was about to put it back when his attention was suddenly drawn to a tag inside.
Every watch from this brand was assigned a unique serial number, with the buyer's name printed exclusively on the tag.
'Richard? Why isn't it Sofia's name?'
Alex squinted as a photo flashed in his mind: Sofia and a man, leaning casually against each other, happiness evident on their faces.
'Was it the man who bought and gave her this watch?" he pondered. "If so, it wouldn't be strange for his name to be on the tag.'
He found himself once again reminiscing about his time with Sofia. It was the result of a reckless impulse driven by alcohol.
He acknowledged his mistake and realized he needed to take responsibility for it. Even before reaching this conclusion, he had feelings for Sofia.
Since they confirmed their relationship, his affection for her had deepened. He found it difficult to adjust to the days without her by his side.
Yet, he pondered, "What about her? Is it love that binds us, or is there something else at play? Would she be dissatisfied and unhappy with me?"
Alex was not one to elaborate, much less engage in arguments or questioning.
He hoped that his feelings would flow smoothly like a gentle stream. However, with his sweet and passionate temperament, he wondered if he could truly hold onto her. What if Sofia grew tired of him?
Then Alex thought he would let her go.
With everything sorted out, Alex returned to the room with a gloomy face.
The woman on the bed was sleeping peacefully, a faint smile still on her lips.
He hesitated, but the idea of Sofia meeting another man tonight and receiving such a valuable gift made him uncomfortable, as if he were being pricked by a needle.
Alex took a deep breath and reached out to wake her up.
Sofia stirred from her peaceful slumber, her expression puzzled. "Alex? What's the matter?"
In the dim light, Alex's features were shrouded in darkness, his voice carrying an unexpected chill. "If you need to rest, you should go home. The rain has stopped."
Sofia felt perplexed. She couldn't comprehend. She had been sleeping peacefully, and suddenly, Alex's demeanor shifted once more. Wasn't he happy just a moment ago?
Sofia looked at his cold and indifferent expression, feeling both wronged and frustrated. An unnamed anger surged to her head.
'Fine, I'll just leave! I don't have to stick to him!'
Alex observed Sofia's angry demeanor. His lips parted slightly, yet ultimately, no words escaped. He maintained silence as Sofia dressed and departed from the house.
He stood by the door, his hand hanging by his side clenched and loosened repeatedly. Eventually, he turned his head back into the room.
Sofia walked all the way to the entrance of the neighborhood. The wet ground after the rain made her feel repulsed. Tears unknowingly streamed down her face, and she casually wiped them away.
It's just that feeling of being wronged and hurt. It's really uncomfortable.
Sofia turned her head and saw that Alex hadn't caught up with her. She could see a faint light coming from the floor where he was, but it suddenly went out, and everything turned pitch black.
He really didn't care about her.
Sofia bit her lip and held back her tears. She turned around and left the residential area, driving away.
…
The next day, Sarah arrived at the company early. Today, the Harrington Group would send someone over with the cooperation proposal for the Pine Mountain project. She couldn't afford to be careless.
Just as she arrived at her office, James walked in from outside, holding a file with an excited and joyful expression. "Ms. Miller, the Harrington Group just sent this. Take a look."
Sarah looked at the file in his hand and said, "Bring it here quickly."
Up until today, she had dismissed Benjamin's words as mere jest. Throughout this period, she had remained on edge. However, with the arrival of the cooperation proposal, reality sank in. Now, she could finally accept that it was indeed genuine.
And the Harrington Group even sent someone to discuss it in detail.
The feeling of regaining what was lost made her unable to contain her excitement.
…
The representatives from both companies quickly negotiated the cooperation terms, and everything went unexpectedly smoothly.
After the Harrington Group representatives left, James said, "Ms. Miller, I didn't expect the Harrington Group to be so sincere."
"What do you mean?"
"While they sent someone over to sign the contract, they also held a press conference, informing the major media about the upcoming collaboration with our company. Now all platforms are reporting about it."
This was truly unexpected.
After all, the Harrington Group had directly snatched the Pine Mountain project from Valencia Inc. before!
Now, they were actively extending an olive branch and handling things so beautifully that it was truly surprising.
Sarah raised an eyebrow, also taken aback.
She opened her phone, and the push notifications on the screen were all about this matter.
[The Harrington Group and Valencia Inc. Join Forces, What Sparks Will They Create?]
Sarah put away her phone and said, "Since that's the case, we must also put all of our efforts into working together with them to make this project a success."
This was also Sarah's way of doing things.
Setting personal matters aside, if someone respected her, she would definitely return the same level of sincerity.
After James left, her phone, which she hadn't heard from for a long time, started ringing. She picked it up and saw it was a business partner she hadn't contacted in a while.
Why would they call her at a time like this?
