Chapter 271 Wait for Me!
"Sir, I'm afraid you'll need to come back for a moment. Mr. Baron, our important partner overseas, has suddenly arrived," James informed.
Mr. Baron was Valencia Inc.'s significant collaborator abroad. Every time Antonio traveled, Mr. Baron would extend his hospitality, even inviting him to stay at his castle.
Now that he had come, it would be inappropriate not to personally receive him. After weighing the pros and cons, it was clear that attending to Mr. Baron took precedence. However, it wouldn't be good to skip the cocktail party either.
Antonio looked at Sarah apologetically. "Sarah, I ..."
"I understand. Just go. It's just a cocktail party. I can manage on my own," she replied.
"If it really doesn't work out, then wait for me. In the worst-case scenario, I'll treat the organizers to a meal afterward."
"What are you thinking? How can you promise something and then go back on your word? How will Valencia Inc. establish itself in the business world?" Sarah reassured Antonio. "I'm just going to a gathering, those people won't eat me. Now go, stop dawdling!"
With a helpless smile, Antonio lightly kissed her forehead. "If you need anything, just give me a call. I'll come as soon as possible. If you feel uncomfortable, wait for me in a corner and don't wander off."
Sarah finally realized that something was amiss. "Are you hiding something from me? How come you keep reminding me like this? Besides, I have a driver accompanying me. Where could I possibly go?"
Antonio's eyes dodged her gaze, clearly hiding something. "You'll find out when the time comes. Just wait for me, no matter what!"
Sarah didn't inquire further. 'Who knows what Antonio is up to?'
"Okay, go quickly."
Soon, the car stopped, and Sarah straightened out the wrinkles on her dress. Guided by a waiter, she entered the banquet hall.
She didn't let the driver accompany her.
Sarah's graceful figure was showcased in a wine-red, figure-hugging dress, accentuating her elegant curves and flawless skin. As she walked through the venue, her presence captivated many guests, who couldn't help but look back.
At the same time, a gloomy gaze ignited from a corner.
After exchanging a few words with the organizers, Sarah picked up a cocktail and heard someone call her name.
"Sarah."
Turning around, she was surprised to see Asa.
"It's really you. It's been a long time."
Asa already possessed a charming demeanor, but at this moment, he appeared especially radiant in his deep blue suit.
Truth be told, Sarah hadn't been in contact with Asa for a long time, and it wasn't just because Antonio didn't like him. More… Sarah herself inexplicably didn't want to have too close of a relationship with Asa.
Asa approached with concern and looked at Sarah. "Sarah, I saw the news online. You were targeted? Are you okay? I was really worried about you."
Sarah discreetly took a step back, maintaining politeness while keeping her distance.
"I'm fine. I have my husband protecting me."
Sarah's words pierced into Asa's ears like needles. He tightened his grip on his glass and forced a slight smile. "It's good that you're fine. I couldn't contact you and was planning to look for you myself. It's really fate that we met here today."
"Yeah." Sarah maintained a faint smile without any unnecessary movements.
The party crowd was bustling, and Sarah deliberately avoided Asa's advancing steps, accidentally bumping into a nearby waiter.
"Sarah, be careful."
Luckily, Asa reacted quickly, grabbing Sarah and preventing her from falling.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Valencia. Did I hurt you?" the waiter apologized hastily, afraid Sarah would blame him.
Sarah handed the glass in her hand to the waiter and used her hand to pat her own dress. "It's alright. You can go and attend to your duties."
It was indeed alright, but the spilled drink had stained her gown, which was quite unsightly.
After the waiter apologized once again and left, Sarah frowned.
"Sarah, go wash up in the restroom," Asa protected Sarah's back, and they appeared very intimate from the side.
Everyone attending knew Sarah, so this moment attracted many people's attention.
Sarah quickly dodged Asa's actions.
"Asa, I'll go to the restroom first. Excuse me."
"I'll accompany you."
Sarah hurriedly waved her hand. "No need, I can go by myself."
After speaking, Sarah quickly left.
Asa watched her figure and rubbed his fingertips, a mysterious smile appearing on his face.
However, Sarah discovered that the restrooms on the first and second floors were under maintenance, and only the restroom on the third floor was available.
"Troublesome." Sarah sighed. But she had no choice and had to use the third-floor restroom alone.
Since this hotel didn't accommodate individual guests, today's event was only on the first and second floors, so the lighting on the third floor was naturally dimmer.
The circular hallway made it feel even more empty and quiet.
Sarah couldn't tell if it was because of disinfectant, but the air was always filled with a sickly sweet smell that made people nauseous.
Covering her mouth and nose, Sarah found the restroom and used the hotel's provided hand dryer to quickly dry the alcohol stains on her clothes.
Because the dress was a wine-red color, even if there were some marks, they wouldn't be noticeable. At least, it would do for now.
As she watched the stain gradually fade away, Sarah let out a sigh of relief.
However, just as Sarah put down the hand dryer and prepared to leave, her legs suddenly went weak.
