Chapter 547 You Are So Much Like Him
At this question, Sarah was taken aback, and a wave of bitterness rippled through her heart.
She... didn't know when he would return.
She wasn't even sure if he would come back at all.
Seeing Sarah falter, Dr. Sancho inwardly sighed with regret for having asked such a probing question—it had obviously touched a sensitive spot.
She felt a genuine affinity for Sarah, and as the pregnancy was progressing, she couldn’t help expressing concern.
"If he really can't make it back... just be extra careful." Dr. Sancho gave Sarah's shoulder a comforting pat, "If you have any problems, come see me or call me anytime."
Sarah relaxed abruptly, smiling in appreciation. "Alright, thank you again."
Dr. Sancho was about to bid her farewell when suddenly, a tall figure burst into view down the hallway.
Dr. Sancho paused for a moment, then broke into a smile.
Sarah, puzzled, asked, "What is it, Dr. Sancho?"
Dr. Sancho tilted her chin up slightly. "Your baby's father is here."
She had once visited Sarah's home for a check-up and had seen the massive family portrait in her living room. She remembered the man in the photo with his distinguished demeanor quite vividly. However, it was only because Dr. Sancho wasn't interested in financial news; otherwise, she would have recognized Sarah's husband as the well-known CEO of Valencia Inc..
Confused, Sarah followed Dr. Sancho's gaze and turned her head.
She was stunned at the sight.
'How... could it be him?!'
They had just met that morning, yet now the man sported a casual suit, his hair somewhat disheveled and unrefined. Nonetheless, he exuded an imposing air that made it challenging to meet his gaze directly.
'It turns out Dr. Sancho has also made a mistake…'
But it was this very mistake that left Sarah even more at a loss for explanation.
At the end of the hallway, Benjamin looked up and saw the two of them.
Sarah stood frozen in place, her pale face etched with illness, next to the doctor. She appeared to have just delivered news and remained in a conversational posture.
Within a few steps, he was in front of them.
Benjamin's brow furrowed slightly as he nodded at Sarah in greeting and casually inquired, "What brings you to the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?"
He remembered the blood on his hand from shaking Sarah's hand that morning, and it concerned him.
Sarah was still dazed and did not respond immediately.
Dr. Sancho expressed her concern, "Ms. Miller’s pregnancy is unstable. She’s had several bouts of stomach pain and certainly needed to come to the hospital for a thorough examination."
Unaware of "the couple’s" actual situation and seeing that Sarah wasn't speaking, Dr. Sancho subconsciously thought Sarah was hesitant to talk.
If she couldn't speak up, as a doctor, she would.
The man might have good looks, but he also had the duty of a husband and a father to fulfill.
"Sir, since your wife is pregnant, you should try to make time to be by her side, to care for her and the child. You shouldn't let her come alone to every check-up. You should know how crucial a husband’s support is during a woman’s pregnancy." Dr. Sancho's tone carried a trace of dissatisfaction as she presumed Benjamin and Sarah to be a married couple.
"The baby might still be young in months, but it also needs the father's presence. The family environment and the mother's mood can all affect the child."
As Sarah listened to Dr. Sancho speaking up for her, her eyes gradually reddened. She felt touched and heartbroken, and there was an overwhelming sense of emptiness and melancholy within her.
Even if he bore a striking resemblance to Antonio, he wasn't the father of her child.
All she ever needed was Antonio, and only him.
Yet, when she looked at the man before her, she couldn't help but wish that it was Antonio standing there instead of Benjamin.
Sarah suddenly felt embarrassed and forced herself to remain calm. She reached out, tugging on Dr. Sancho's arm to signal her to stop speaking.
"Dr. Sancho, he—" Sarah began, intending to clarify, but Benjamin's voice cut in before she could continue.
"I understand. I'll be mindful," Benjamin said, taking the medication from Dr. Sancho's hands. "Thanks for your help."
His demeanor was not exactly friendly, but polite enough.
Sarah looked at him, puzzled and stunned.
Sensing that Benjamin seemed to have taken her advice seriously, Dr. Sancho felt reassured.
"Well, then you two should head back. I won't see you out," she said and waved at Sarah before turning back to her office.
The spacious hallway fell silent, leaving Sarah and Benjamin facing each other in an uncomfortable quiet.
"Um..." Sarah was the first to break the silence, speaking awkwardly. "Thank you, Mr. Harrington, for what happened earlier, but I also feel sorry... The doctor didn't know about my husband's situation, and it brought you trouble. I'll find a chance to explain it to her later, and I hope you won't mind."
Benjamin was indifferent to the gratitude, his gaze intense as he stared at her.
"It's nothing. I just saw you looked like you were about to cry and decided to step in," he said bluntly, not sparing her feelings.
She knew she was helpless, always crumbling when she saw this face. She managed a wry smile but said nothing.
Benjamin continued, "What I'm more curious about is why that doctor was so sure I'm the father of your child?"
His penetrating stare seemed to tighten a grip on her heart, tangling her emotions into a knot she couldn't unravel.
She always seemed so disheveled in front of this man.
"Because..." Sarah's throat bobbed as she struggled to keep her voice light, "it must be because... Mr. Harrington, you and my husband look incredibly alike. That must've been why Dr. Sancho got confused."
