Chapter 699 Startling the Fetus!
Seeing that he didn't seem to be in pain, Sarah breathed a sigh of relief and said, "I have things to do. Don't play outside by yourself. Go back now. I need to go out for a bit."
After saying that, she gathered his hair, turned around, and got back into the car.
She was almost impatient, eager to know the result.
Sarah went to a private hospital run by an acquaintance. Because she had called ahead, the doctor was already waiting at the door.
"Ms. Miller?" the doctor asked.
"That's me." Sarah stepped forward and shook his hand, handing over the two samples of hair she had re-packaged. "Both samples are here. Thank you."
The doctor smiled as he took them. "No problem."
Sarah clasped her hands together and asked, "It's urgent. How long will it take to get the results?"
"The fastest would be about three hours." The doctor glanced at his watch. "You can go home and come back later to pick them up."
"No, I'll wait here," she replied.
In this situation, how could she possibly calm down and go back?
Sarah sat down on a nearby bench, rubbing her hands together repeatedly. It seemed that only by doing something extra could she ease her nerves.
The doctor didn't try to persuade her further. "I'll expedite it."
Waiting always feflt interminable.
During this time, Sarah had imagined countless scenarios. Just thinking about the possible outcomes made her heart race.
She kept wavering between two possibilities, affirming and then overturning her thoughts, until she was so nervous that a layer of cold sweat formed on her forehead.
...
After more than three hours, the doctor finally came out of the lab, holding the report Sarah had been anxiously awaiting.
Sarah quickly stood up, her gaze shifting nervously to the doctor's face. "Doctor, what's the result?"
In the brief two seconds it took for the doctor to respond, Sarah felt time stretch infinitely. Her heartbeat pounded heavily in her chest, each beat intensifying her anxiety. The doctor looked relaxed and seemed to understand her anxiety. He didn't hesitate. "Ms. Miller, the DNA comparison shows that the likelihood of a parent-child relationship between these two individuals is greater than 99%. In other words, they are indeed father and son."
Each word felt like a hammer striking Sarah's heart!
She couldn't even describe her feelings; tears fell without her realizing it as she reached out with trembling hands to take the report.
"It's true," she muttered.
'It really is him. It really is him! Benjamin is Antonio!
'But if he really is Antonio, what exactly happened back then? Why did he become Benjamin? And what about the body that was confirmed to have Antonio’s DNA?' she wondered.
Countless questions flashed through Sarah's mind, but in the end, she felt that none of them mattered.
As long as he was alive.
As long as he could come back!
Sarah snapped out of her thoughts and suddenly turned to run outside.
She had to see him immediately and ask why he wouldn't admit it, what his reasons were.
'Does he not want me or the children anymore?' she thought.
But just a few steps out, Sarah suddenly felt a sharp pain in her abdomen!
She reached out to support herself against the wall, her face instantly turning pale.
The doctor, who hadn't left yet, immediately noticed something was wrong, asked with care, "Ms. Miller?"
Sarah's breathing became rapid, and she said, "My stomach hurts."
The doctor supported her while making a phone call. "I'll get someone to take you to the obstetrics department right away. It seems the baby is in distress!"
Soon, a nurse arrived with a stretcher. With the doctor's help, they got Sarah onto it.
"Nurse, will my baby be okay?" Sarah asked.
The nurse quickly checked her condition and reassured her, "Don't worry, it shouldn't be a big problem, but the final result will depend on a detailed examination by the doctor."
Sarah nodded, lying back without daring to move.
Her stomach was in such pain that it felt like it was pulling at her heart.
A thin layer of sweat formed on her forehead, and she could only pray that nothing would happen to the baby.
Downstairs, the nurse pushed the stretcher into the obstetrics examination room. "Try to relax your breathing. The doctor will be here soon to give you a detailed check-up."
"Wait!" Sarah suddenly reached out and grabbed her, her eyes misty with tears. "Can you do me a favor?"
The nurse helped her lie back on the stretcher and asked, "What is it?"
"Can you make a phone call for me and say..." She fumbled for her phone in her pocket, her voice lowering as if she were planning something significant. "Say this, and then..."
The nurse listened, her brow furrowing. "Are you sure? Isn't that a bit inappropriate?"
"How could it be?" Afraid of being refused, Sarah, already enduring the pain, looked even more pitiful. "We've been at odds for a long time. If you help me, maybe we can reconcile!"
"Alright, go ahead and make the call," the nurse said.
Once Sarah dialed the number, the nurse immediately said anxiously, "This is Sunset Valley Medical Center. We only have two obstetricians on duty today! The pregnant woman's condition is very serious. If this continues, both the mother and the baby might... Hurry, emergency!"
Before she could finish, the doctor arrived, and the sound of hurried footsteps filled the room.
Sarah quickly hung up!
On the other end of the line...
Benjamin, who was in a meeting at the office, sat frozen in his seat, as if his soul had left his body.
Initially, when he saw that the call was from Sarah, he couldn't contain his joy!
Sarah had actually called him herself!
But the voice on the other end wasn't Sarah's!
It was the medical staff at Sunset Valley Medical Center!
Recalling the content of the call and the chaotic background noise, Benjamin felt his blood froze!
For a moment, he didn't know how to react!
A strong sense of unease filled his heart, gradually turning into excruciating pain.
Benjamin couldn't help but clutch his chest.
The senior staff sitting around the long table exchanged puzzled glances.
Finally, someone mustered the courage to ask, "Mr. Harrington? Are you alright?"
