Chapter 1003 Very Much in Love
He held her hand, his eyes shining with a deep, precious light. "I love you so much."
His throat tightened with emotion. He didn't want to scare her, but he had to tell her.
He was struggling to keep his feelings in check.
Victoria sat there, stunned and unguarded, as his words sank in.
But then, Daisy's words echoed in her mind.
Daisy had said that it was the Harrington family who caused her to lose her parents, who made her the way she was now.
She wanted to ask him something, but didn't know where to start.
It felt like something foreign was stirring inside her, moving towards him.
But she didn't remember him at all.
Victoria was confused about everything.
"I'm gonna freshen up. Don't even think about running away. By the time you figure out how to get from the bed to the door, I'll be done."
"If I catch you, you know I'll devour you."
He leaned in close to her ear, teasing her.
Victoria's face flushed from his intimate breath.
Alexander, seeing her reaction, kissed her forehead before leaving.
Victoria could hear her heart racing, even as his footsteps faded away.
When she heard the water running in the bathroom, she guessed he hadn't closed the door.
For some reason, this made her less anxious. She hugged her knees and listened quietly.
She was utterly confused about everything, and this disappointed her.
But during this time, this family had taken her to see doctors, given her the best care. She couldn't be indifferent to that.
She didn't dare to think further.
In her memory, people had always told her that there weren't many good things in the world, not much good luck for people like them.
They were sent to that place, destined for a miserable life. Only the smart ones could have a good life.
But she wasn't smart.
She was always despised, so much so that no one paid attention to her, as if her body were rotting.
She remembered how uncomfortable she used to be, but now she felt warm.
She quietly felt the warmth of her body and thought, maybe she belonged to Olivia.
This should count as a good life.
Her body was warm, her clothes were dry, and her food was hot.
Someone helped her with her illness, someone warmed her feet, and someone tried to bring her joy.
She thought Diana and the others were great.
She missed Diana a bit since there was no news from her today.
When Alexander's phone rang, she instinctively turned her head to listen.
Her throat moved. She wanted to call him, but hearing the water, she held back.
She couldn't answer it anyway; she couldn't hear clearly or speak.
Diana, hearing no answer, assumed they were asleep and continued drinking alone at the bar.
When Alexander came out, she heard him and looked in his direction, but she couldn't see anything.
She pointed randomly, thinking it was the right direction.
Alexander, drying his hair, saw where she pointed and noticed his suit pants at the foot of the bed. "Someone called?"
Victoria nodded.
Alexander smiled, took out his phone, and saw it was Diana.
He sat down and called back. On the other end, a confused voice said, "Calling me won't help. I've already moved on."
Alexander sensed something was off. "Who is this?"
"Huh? Isn't this Curtis?"
"Where are you?"
"At the bar. Who are you?"
"Stay there."
Alexander hung up and immediately made another call. "Diana is at your place. Keep an eye on her."
"Got it."
Satisfied, Alexander hung up and returned to the bed, lying beside Victoria. "It was Diana."
Victoria perked up at the mention of Diana.
Seeing her curiosity, Alexander continued, "She's probably drinking. She fell for someone but can't have them."
Victoria remembered Diana mentioning someone, a teacher, who thought Diana's family background was too good and felt unworthy.
Alexander, talking about unrequited love, couldn't help but look at her.
He, too, loved someone he couldn't have.
She was avoiding him now.
"I've asked someone to look after her. She'll be fine."
Victoria felt reassured.
And it seemed his words carried weight with everyone.
As Victoria pondered, Alexander watched her.
Seeing her sitting there, he sighed and smiled. "Aren't you tired?"
Victoria was puzzled, not knowing what he meant.
She was tired, but lying down felt strange.
A woman lying in a man's bed, well, it was odd.
Even though it wasn't their first time, the atmosphere was different.
She didn't know why he insisted on bringing her from the Harrington Mansion to here, but she knew he was determined.
As she was thinking, he suddenly grabbed her arm, making her tense.
"Lie down." He gently reminded her.
Victoria stayed silent, not moving.
Lying down felt too intimate.
She held her breath, wanting to resist, but he noticed.
Alexander got up and moved close, his lips just millimeters from hers. "If I didn't know your back was bad, I'd have pinned you down already."
He knew about her back?
Victoria was puzzled.
Seeing her expression change, Alexander continued, "If you lie down now, I won't bother you. I'll let you sleep well, okay?"
Victoria was speechless, reluctant to obey.
But soon, a warm hand supported her back, and she felt his forehead against hers.
He applied gentle pressure, and she slowly lay back.
She felt protected, but there was an indescribable intimacy.
But she was lying down now. She couldn't see anything but heard his soft laughter.
Their foreheads touched, warm.
The smell of alcohol was gone, replaced by a cool mint scent. He whispered, "Tori, I miss you so much."
Victoria remembered someone saying that when a man says he misses you, he wants to sleep with you.
She felt his warm chest pressing against her, his heartbeat strong and steady.
It was a completely different feeling from hers.
He kissed her nose, her forehead, then looked at her anxious face and whispered in her ear, "Goodnight."
