Chapter 36 Legal Husband

‘Why did you let that woman carry your child?’
Her courage, in the end, was not enough to prop up her question. She suddenly retreated in weakness. She decided to let it be. Let everything be. Why bother with all this? What else could it be? Simply because he didn't love her.
However, his feverish hand suddenly clasped her neck, his thumb unintentionally caressing her skin, his deep gaze fixed on her, "Wouldn't you know?"
He suddenly became like a god of the night, easily manipulating her emotions. She wanted to look down, but his other hand suddenly reached her face.
He held her face like that, his narrow and dangerous eyes staring deep into hers, "Answer me."
"I know, simply because I'm not the wife you chose for yourself."
She spoke softly, her misty eyes looking at him, having lost their previous fight. He stared at her, wanting to laugh but couldn't. She wasn't the wife he chose for himself?
He sighed, his helpless and magnetic voice, "For two whole years, my wife never called me once, but now she's asking me why I haven't come home for two whole years; don't you find it funny?"
He was the one who left, but he expected her to call first? Why did it seem as if he thought she was the one at fault? She angrily raised her hand to grip his wrist, wanting to remove his hand from her face, but...
His strength made her feel like banging her head against a brick wall.
She looked at him strangely, then her heart seemed to jump out. At some point, he had gotten so close that she couldn't see him clearly. Alexander held her face so firmly, forcing her to look up and meet his gaze.
Actually, he just wanted her not to be too presumptuous, but looking at her questioning lips, he couldn't help but lean in. It was just the two of them in the room; they were so close and, suddenly, their breaths intertwined. Victoria's face immediately turned red.
"Alexander." Before he could kiss her, she called his name with suppressed anger.
Alexander's dark eyes moved from her lips to her brows, and then, he reluctantly let go of her hand.
With his hands clenched, he turned around and lowered his head. As a strange emotion overcame him, he simply said, "Sorry, I'm a bit dizzy."
Victoria looked at him in surprise. Did he mean that he wanted to kiss her because he was dizzy? Yes, just now, it seemed like he wanted to kiss her. If she hadn't called him in time...
Alexander's phone rang again. He walked to the sofa and picked it up. After seeing the caller, he felt more suppressed, but still answered, "Hello?"
"I'm not going; I have a bit of a fever."
He spoke faintly. The other side said something, and he laughed despite his weakness, "No worries, as long as you take care of yourself. I'm upstairs."
He said this, the other side said something else, and he laughed again. "Don't come up, I'll come to see you later."
Victoria stood there stiffly, only after his call did she come back to her senses, then silently walk out.
He treated her like a servant but didn't want to worry that woman at all. And, with a fever of over 38 degrees, he could still smile so nicely at that woman. Indeed, love and indifference were two very different things.
She went downstairs, finding that the nanny had already prepared breakfast. But the doorbell suddenly rang. The nanny, coming out of the kitchen, met Victoria who had just come down the stairs.
Victoria said, "I'll get the door."
Alexander was coming down from upstairs just as Victoria opened the door.
"How's Alex?"
It was Isabella. She looked very anxious and, as soon as the door opened, she stepped in. She had the password to the top floor.
