Chapter 185 A Jealousy So Intense

"What of it?" Victoria Kensington challenged him, her voice laced with defiance.

"Darling, you're behaving much like a perturbed little wildcat at this moment," Alexander Harrington observed, unable to suppress his amusement any longer. He leaned in, pressing his forehead against hers, his words a playful whisper in the quiet room.

Victoria's heart skipped a beat. Did he just address her as 'darling'? And a 'little wildcat'? She pushed him away instinctively, but he swiftly recaptured her hands.

Alexander's imposing figure towered over her, his dark eyes suddenly serious as he reminded her, "Can't you see it, Victoria? You're consumed by jealousy, a jealousy so intense it's almost maddening."

Victoria's mind whirled, a wave of resistance surging within her. But before she could voice her denial, his lips silenced her with a kiss. Her anger, it seemed, was abruptly interrupted by his sudden, passionate embrace.

She found herself gasping for breath, her lungs unable to keep up with the intensity of the moment. Jealous? Overwhelmed by jealousy? That wasn't like her at all.

Despite her protests, he kissed her with an effortless ease, his mouth claiming hers with a fervor that left her breathless. Before she knew it, her lips parted under his, and at the touch of his tongue, a shiver ran through her, her face flushing with a whirlwind of emotions as she tried to voice her objections.

Alexander Harrington seemed to require no effort, his fervent kisses continuing until they gradually subsided. He rested his forehead against hers, catching his breath in a moment that felt like an eternity.

The room fell into silence once more, the only sound being the soft patter of her unshed tears. She despised the way he kissed her so abruptly, so unexpectedly. She found his manners utterly lacking.

He had declared his intention for a divorce upon his return. How had they ended up in this situation? She was pinned beneath a man who had wronged her, a man who had spoken of divorce, and now left her lips throbbing from his fervent kisses.

"Vicky, I'm glad to see you're jealous," he murmured.

"I'm not," she retorted instantly.

Alexander Harrington smiled, planting a gentle kiss on her defiant lips before whispering, "But you must trust the man you care for. If he cared for another woman, he wouldn't be here with you, consumed with worry."

Victoria Kensington was left speechless, her body numb. Worried about her?

"You can ask Jasmine, ask the elders at Harrington Family Castle. The day you disappeared, I couldn't concentrate on anything else."

His words only served to confuse Victoria further.

"I've been worried," he confessed, his voice choked with emotion. He took a deep breath, then laughed helplessly, "I was terrified I'd never find you again."

Victoria struggled to comprehend his words. Worried he'd never find her again? But he didn't love her, so why would he be worried?

She was certain he wanted to confront her about Isabella Montgomery's fainting episode at her doorstep. "She was fine when she left; I really didn't..."

"Don't bring her up again," he warned softly.

Victoria bit her tongue. Did he still believe she had no right to mention that woman?

"No one has the right to intrude on our time, our time as husband and wife," he declared, his voice gruff but carrying an underlying importance about their marriage.

Victoria lay beneath him, feeling the warmth of his body, the rhythmic cadence of his breath. Slowly, the unwelcome images began to resurface in her mind.

"Do you want to try to accept me?" he asked, his voice suddenly urgent.

Victoria found his words earth-shattering. Try to accept him? It sounded as if he was negotiating with her. Reflecting on his words, she was suddenly under the illusion of a confession.

"Alexander Harrington, have you been drinking?" she whispered.

His chuckle was tinged with melancholy. "How could I have gone for drinks when I've been here waiting for you since 5:30?"
