Chapter 267 Victoria's Internal Turmoil

"Someone else can drive you," Victoria suggested gently.

"I want you to take me to the airport," Alexander insisted, his fingers closing around her wrist. He then shifted his grip to her slender fingers, holding them with a firmness that made her lower her gaze. With a hesitant nod, she allowed him to guide her towards the car.

"During my absence, David can chauffeur you around," Alexander proposed as they settled into the vehicle.

"Alright," Victoria agreed, sitting beside him in quiet compliance.

Her mind was a whirl of thoughts, all centered around the desire to expedite his departure. She felt a constriction in her chest, an uncomfortable tightness that she attributed to her eagerness to be rid of him.

Upon their arrival at the bustling airport, Victoria's heart pounded in her chest, her doubts beginning to surface. She glanced up at Alexander, who was leading the way, and found her happiness at his departure replaced with an unexpected sadness.

Alexander guided her into the VIP lounge, releasing her hand once they were seated. Victoria felt a sudden pang of loss and her gaze fell upon the ring adorning his hand. She looked down at her own hand, her decision made.

"I should return this ring to you," Victoria declared, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Don't you want to keep your mother's ring?" Alexander asked, leaning closer and taking her hand in his.

Victoria looked at him, taken aback, and began to protest, "But..."

"We're only going to be apart for a few days," Alexander interjected, cutting her off.

Victoria held her tongue, her thoughts screaming, 'I'm not coming back.' She refrained from voicing her decision, fearful of provoking Alexander's anger, even though she was unsure of the cause of his ire.

"I promise you, you'll return soon," Alexander asserted with conviction, his gaze meeting hers.

Victoria looked at him, her confusion evident.

"When you return, we'll take things slow, develop our relationship at a comfortable pace. Is that acceptable?" Alexander proposed, his tone gentle.

Victoria pondered his certainty, her head bowed in silence. She had no intention of returning, regardless of his promises.

"I have one more thing to remind you," Alexander added, breaking the silence.

"What?" Victoria asked, her voice barely audible.

"Don't let any other men stay overnight at your place," Alexander warned, his tone stern.

Victoria remained silent, her thoughts a whirlwind.

"I've tried to warn you about the dangers of acquaintances, but you've dismissed my concerns. Consider this a result of my jealousy," Alexander suggested, his gaze intensifying.

Victoria looked at him in surprise, his patience and focus disconcerting. She felt a sense of unease, as if she was on the brink of falling into an unforeseen trap from which escape might be impossible.

An airline representative arrived to escort Alexander to his flight. He nodded politely in acknowledgment before turning his attention back to Victoria. "I'll see you in Ankenra."

Victoria hesitated, her heart pounding in her chest. She didn't dare to voice her decision not to return. Instead, she lowered her gaze and murmured, "Alright."

Alexander held her hand for a moment longer, the contact causing a faint ache in her heart. He released her abruptly and stood, his tall figure casting a shadow that made it difficult for her to see clearly.

"Goodbye," Victoria whispered, rising to her feet.

Alexander looked at her, his gaze softening. "Goodbye."

As Alexander walked away, Victoria felt her heart grow heavy, as if it was being carried away with him.

'He's let go of my hand. Why does my heart still ache? Wasn't I hoping for him to leave? He didn't promise me anything. What am I expecting after all? Goodbye, Alexander,' Victoria mused, her thoughts a tumultuous storm.

Alexander disappeared from her sight, but as tears began to blur her vision, he suddenly reappeared. Victoria could no longer see him clearly, but she felt his hands cupping her tear-streaked face, his lips pressing against hers in a familiar kiss. She winced in pain.

But he held her close, his arms wrapped tightly around her slender waist, his kiss fierce and demanding. She tasted blood, her lips wounded once again, her tears flowing freely.

'Just once, is that okay?' she wondered, her thoughts echoing in the silence.
