Chapter 593 Not Leaving?

"Sir, Madam, Mrs. Eloise Harrington said it was getting cold and asked you to go back to your rooms early after dinner," Erica suddenly appeared in the dining room and said.

Alexander finished his soup, put down the bowl, took a napkin to wipe his mouth, patiently folded the napkin neatly, placed it on the table, and then got up to leave.

Victoria still sat there, hesitant.

She hadn't even touched the soup in her bowl.

She gradually felt that the soup had gone cold, like the autumn, and like her heart.

However, eventually, she had to leave the dining room, too.

Victoria, wanting to go out, called Olivia. When Olivia answered the phone, she looked at the man sitting across from her and whispered, "I'm feeling really nauseous today. Eddie won't let me go out. Are you feeling down? How about we chat on the phone for a while?"

"Chat about what? What if you tire out my son?"

Victoria heard a man's displeased voice from the other end.

Realizing Olivia wasn't feeling well, Victoria quickly hung up.

But just then, another call came in.

Victoria answered, "Hello?"

"Come up." Alexander commanded in a deep voice.

She didn't respond, but she soon heard him say again, "Don't you want a solution?"

"Okay," she agreed, then looked upstairs.

When she returned to the room, Alexander had just finished drying his hair and came out of the bathroom, holding his phone. He walked to the bed, leaned over to place the phone on the nightstand, and then looked at her. "Do we need to talk from such a distance?"

Victoria walked in a bit and asked, "What solution?"

She didn't even dare to look at him. Undoubtedly, his physique was so good it made her heart race.

She didn't dare to look at him too much, nor did she dare to get too close.

She told herself in mind, 'When facing someone you love, it's best to keep your head down and maintain a distance to stay rational. That way, you won't make the wrong decision.'

Alexander suddenly said, "Maybe Grandma is just pretending."

Victoria immediately looked up at him.

Alexander sighed, then looked at her again, "I don't plan to force you anymore. There's a car key on the table downstairs; you can leave anytime."

"What about Grandma..."

"I said, I can take responsibility." Alexander was very serious.

Hearing this, Victoria felt for the first time that he really wanted to take responsibility.

"Thank you," she said softly, lowering her gaze.

Alexander sneered, "There's nothing more to say between us."

Victoria felt very conflicted inside and replied softly with her head down, "I see."

She turned to leave, even feeling a bitterness in her mouth.

However, just as she turned, she heard him say, "I never competed with the Montgomery Group before."

Victoria stopped, wanting to look back at him to understand the meaning of his words through his expression, but in the end, she kept her head down.

Because once she looked up, tears might fall. And now was not the right time for that.

Alexander continued, "I never thought one day I would personally find evidence to send the CEO of the Montgomery Group to prison."

Hearing these words, Victoria felt a part of her heart sink.

She thought, 'Did he mean he did it for me? Is that why he sent Dorian to prison?'

"As for Isabella, I indeed didn't make her pay as she should have, so of course, you have the right to doubt that I care about her," he spoke each word seriously, then added, "So you can leave."

Victoria, her eyes brimming with tears, looked at him.

She saw him standing under the warm wall lamp, his head down, smiling bitterly, making her heart ache.

He said, "As a husband, I didn't protect my wife and even got involved in scandals with another woman."

Alexander also turned his head, looking at her against the light.

The large room suddenly became quiet.

He continued with a melancholic yet resigned look, "What right do I have to ask you to stay and complete that wedding with me?"

Victoria felt the light behind him was a bit harsh, so she slowly lowered her head, turned silently, and wanted to leave.

"Using Grandma's life as an excuse? Then how am I different from a jerk?" Alexander said behind her.

Victoria lowered her head, her breath feeling hot, and the phone in her hand was even wet with sweat.

She couldn't think of anything; every word he said was so clear, but she lost the ability to discern.

She just wanted to find a place to calm down and think about what to do tomorrow.

But the phone rang again; it was Eloise calling. She had to answer, trying to sound normal, "Grandma."

Alexander behind her heard her call and continued to look at her.

And Eloise, on the other end of the phone, also asked her with concern, "Are you back in your room?"

Victoria replied, "Yes."

"What about your husband?"

"He's here too."

Victoria felt a bit tormented inside. The word "husband" sounded familiar, yet so strange.

Eloise said, "If he dares to bully you, just tell me. I'll rush over to protect you, okay?"

"Got it, Grandma. You should rest early too," Victoria said.

"I can't sleep; I'm afraid you two will fight." Eloise's muffled voice came from the other end.

"We won't fight, Grandma. You rest well; we'll be fine."

"Really? Then can I have breakfast with you two tomorrow morning?"

"Of course," Victoria agreed gently, not wanting to disturb Eloise's sleep.

"Victoria, have a good night. I'll have Erica guard your door to make sure Alexander doesn't run away tonight, okay?"

"Okay. Grandma, good night." Victoria couldn't help but laugh, but still, she gently said goodnight to Eloise.

Now, she wasn't sure if Erica was outside to block Alexander or her.

She just felt a sourness spreading from her heart to her throat, to her mouth, and even her eyes were sore.

She didn't dare to look back; she just felt that this wasn't what she wanted.

"Was it Grandma? What did she say?" Behind her came that familiar deep voice again.

She couldn't help but turn her head. "Erica is outside."

Despite her hoarse voice, he understood clearly.

"I'll go explain to her. I make the decisions," Alexander said seriously to her and took long strides towards her.

"Forget it." Victoria reached out to stop him as he passed by.

Alexander stopped and turned to look at her misty eyes, "Forget what?"

"Tonight, let's not worry Grandma," she said, then let go of him.

Alexander looked at her and said nothing more. She turned and walked towards the door, and Alexander kept looking at her.

She unbuttoned two buttons on her shirt, opened the door, and said to the person outside, "Erica, you can go rest. We're going to sleep too."

Erica was chatting on her phone. Hearing this, she looked at her for a few seconds and then agreed, "Okay, good night, Mrs. Harrington."

"Good night," Victoria responded, then gently closed the door.

However, when she turned around, she was startled and clutched her chest, leaning against the wall.

Alexander blocked the light in front of her, his low voice full of doubt, "Not leaving?"
