Chapter 493 Give Him Isabella's Test Results

"""Victoria, you're nothing but a little liar.""

Alexander's deep voice echoed in her ear.

""Stop talking nonsense,"" Victoria said.

Being exposed, she was too weak to form a complete sentence.

Especially while caught in his strong, warm chest, staring into those deep eyes that made her lose herself.

With just one look, she felt like she was going crazy.

She thought love at first sight was the most ridiculous thing in the world, but she didn't expect the aftermath of her husband kicking her out of The Harrington Mansion to be even more absurd.

She originally thought they would divorce quickly and, at most, remain as boss and subordinate.

But months passed, and not only did they not divorce, he even had someone arrange a wedding dress for her.

After a series of absurd events, tonight, it was stormy outside.

Even after learning that Isabella was pretending to be sick, she still came to bring him a quilt.

She worried whether he was cold since he knew everything but pretended not to know, swinging between her and Isabella.

She found herself ridiculous, but when she saw his eyes, her heart still raced.

She knew she was done.

She didn't even know if she was angry at him for playing her or at herself for being so foolish.

Ever since her parents left, it felt like she was living in another world.

Did it go mad?

She was no longer the sharp-witted Victoria.

She couldn't figure anything out and was utterly defeated by the man in front of her.

She lowered her eyes, not daring to look at him anymore.

Alexander picked her up from the sofa. ""The sofa is too small. Let's go back to the room.""

Later, it was a silent night.

He just lay close to her, sharing the same quilt.

The weather got a bit strange, making people unconsciously seek warmth in their sleep.

The next morning, she woke up by a phone call. Reluctantly, she snatched the phone by the pillow and answered from under the covers. ""Hello?""

""Victoria?"" William asked.

""Yes, Mr. Sullivan?"" Victoria asked.

It took Victoria a moment to recognize the voice as William's.

""Is Alexander with you?"" William asked.

""Yes, he's awake. Hold on."" Victoria felt the person behind her move, turned slightly, and whispered, ""It's Mr. Sullivan's call. Can you take it?""

Alexander sighed, took her hand holding the phone, and put it to his ear. ""So early?""

Shortly after, he got up and said, ""Got it, hang up.""

Since they were so near, Victoria didn't inquire what it was about. She'd heard bits and pieces.

""I'm going to buy breakfast."" He bent down, pinched her chin, and kissed her hard on the lips before getting out of bed.

Victoria still lay there, slightly moving her body to see him leave.

He must be going to see Isabella.

He hadn't mentioned it, but William's voice still echoed in her ears.

William said, ""Isabella took pills to commit suicide last night and is still in the ICU. The doctor said she had no will to live. Can you come?""

How ridiculous!

Only Alexander could give Isabella the will to live, right?

So Isabella's trick always worked.

Victoria looked at the ceiling light and inexplicably laughed.

In this world, was it really the shameless who were favored by fate?

After getting up, she walked to the kitchen, opened a pack of English muffins from the freezer, and defrosted one. She tore off a piece and chewed it leisurely after defrosting, even though the pan and knife were ready. It was alright.

She tore off pieces of the English muffin and stuffed them into her mouth.

Janaye called, and she put it on speaker, trying to swallow the English muffin that hurt her throat. Janaye sounded puzzled. ""Are you sick?""

""No."" Victoria looked puzzled at the phone on the marble counter.

""I had a sudden stomachache last night and went to the hospital. This morning, I ran into Mr. Harrington, who said he was there to get medicine for you,"" Janaye said.

""Could it be birth control pills?"" Janaye asked.

So he did go to the hospital.

And he said he was going to buy breakfast.

She stared at the remaining English muffin, tore off another piece, and shoved it into her mouth.

But later, her teeth seemed tired, and she couldn't chew anymore.

She looked at the last piece of English muffin in her hand and saw something drip onto it.

It was her tears.

Victoria couldn't understand how a man could really be so at ease between two women.

'Where did it go wrong?' she thought until her head hurt, but she couldn't figure it out.

Around eight, her door was opened from the outside again.

Her phone had a message, but she didn't have the energy to check it.

She sat at the dining table with a piece of the English muffin left on the table.

She probably was fastidious since childhood, so even the shredded English muffin looked delicate.

""This place's breakfast is really good, but the line is too long.""

Alexander walked in, placing the sandwich and juice he bought on the table.

Victoria laughed as she lowered her head to listen to him.

He went to the hospital but claimed he was buying breakfast.

After dropping her forehead hand, she paused for two seconds before recognizing the sandwich brand on the table, but she figured it out. He probably had someone wait in line for him.

""What's wrong?""

Alexander raised her chin and propped one hand behind her, keeping her looking up. Seeing her red eyes, he asked doubtfully.

""Did you buy this breakfast?"" Victoria asked.

""What's wrong?"" Alexander puzzled.

""Then who was the man at the hospital claiming to get medicine for me?"" Victoria asked.

""Did Janaye call? You matter to her. You weren't feeling well with that fever medicine, so I switched brands,"" Alexander replied.

""I don't have a fever. Why did you get fever medicine for me?"" Victoria asked him again.

He looked so calm as if she was being unreasonable.

Victoria found it amusing. What was he afraid to admit?

As Harrington Group CEO, he was famous for his industry practices. He did not fear women or hide anything.

She suddenly felt he was better when he first returned to the city.

At least he was honest then.

""Do you think I went to see Isabella?"" He guessed she must have heard.

""Yes."" Victoria looked at him and got up after speaking.

""Where are you going?"" He asked.

""To get something. Don't leave."" Victoria said seriously and then left.

Alexander was pleasantly surprised when she told him not to leave and went to wash his hands to prepare breakfast.

When Victoria returned, he was already sitting in the seat next to hers, ready to eat.

""What is it?"" Alexander asked.

""Isabella's test results."" Victoria sat back in her chair, calmly meeting his gaze."
