Chapter 531 But in This world, There Was No Such Thing as a Secret That Didn't Get Out
"Yeah," Alexander replied confidently.
Felicity finally got a grip on her emotions, looked up with a smile, and met his gaze. "Alright, I don't like staying in someone else's room either."
"But it's not fair to make a guest sleep in a room without air conditioning."
"So, Mr. Harrington, what's your suggestion?"
"I heard you're short on cash. I'll give you $140,000, and I'll sleep on the floor inside, you only gain, no loss."
"Let me get this straight, Mr. Harrington. You're saying you'll give me $140,000, and then we'll both stay in this room, with you on the floor and me on the bed, right?"
"Yes."
Felicity smiled calmly. "That does sound like a no-loss deal for me."
Alexander was about to walk in, but she blocked the doorway, gently touching the door panel. "But there's no such thing as a secret that doesn't get out."
Alexander asked, "What do you mean?"
Felicity said calmly, "Eventually, someone will find out, and then I'll be seen as a small-time actress trying to use you to get ahead in my career, forever ridiculed in the entertainment industry."
She looked at him, every word serious and calm.
It was as if she were saying, "This steak is spoiled. Let's not eat it."
Alexander said, "If you don't want people to know, don't do such things, right?"
Felicity agreed. "Yes."
Alexander sneered, his dark eyes piercing. "But even if you do nothing, you can't stop some people's dirty thoughts."
Felicity boldly met his gaze, her delicate eyebrows slightly moving. "What do you mean by saying this while looking at me?"
Alexander casually said, "Isn't it the greatest respect to look at each other while talking?"
Felicity didn't see his respect, but the strong male pheromones quickly surrounded her. He stepped forward slightly, and she instinctively leaned back to avoid him.
But he still got close, looking down at her. "Or is it that you're inherently the kind of dirty person I'm talking about?"
Felicity shouted, "I've decided not to agree to your $140,000 offer to sleep on my floor for a night. Goodbye."
She found him extremely annoying and quickly tried to close the door.
But Alexander's hand was on the door panel as he snorted, "Do you really think changing your name will give you a fresh start?"
"I don't understand what you're saying, but if you continue to stand at my door, I can report you for harassment," Felicity said defiantly.
"Before you do that, you should remember you're in the Harrington Old Mansion. It's hard to say who's harassing whom," Alexander threatened.
His aura grew colder, and if he could, he probably would have been angry enough to hit her.
The atmosphere became somewhat oppressive.
It was no longer suitable to continue the conversation, so Felicity smiled. "It's getting late. Let's say goodnight."
Alexander asked, "How do you say goodnight?"
"I suppose you don't want to disturb the elders' rest, so, goodnight, and sweet dreams."
Alexander sneered. "Sweet dreams? Can you still have sweet dreams?"
Alexander's deep voice and his gaze seemed to want to strip her bare and tear her apart.
"Usually, it's just a polite phrase. It's really late, and I want to rest, okay?" Felicity tried hard to speak to him nicely.
She wanted to end this conversation at the door quickly.
Inside, she was already in turmoil.
Those past events were vivid in her mind.
Once, Alexander said he was her man and that they would spend their lives together.
He had spent a lot of money hiring a famous designer for the wedding dress and personally designed the wedding venue. She was so flattered that she lost herself, really thinking she was his one and only.
But it turned out he didn't need her specifically.
She wasn't unique. She could be replaced at any time.
That night, the two bodies entangled, and the condom box was left at the door.
That night was wild.
But Alexander didn't marry Isabella either. Instead, he tied the knot with Tessa this morning.
Tessa looked so innocent. Felicity had no idea how he planned to hurt her.
But that was none of her business.
She couldn't keep getting hurt in love and still move forward bravely.
She couldn't be foolish anymore.
Now, no matter how good-looking or well-built Alexander was, he was nothing in her eyes.
She had no interest in him anymore.
Felicity looked at him, her once-torn heart and lungs just torn again, but they would gradually heal.
She was used to it, used to that heart-wrenching pain, numb and silent.
A thunderclap outside disturbed the quiet inside the room.
Alexander's deep eyes stared straight at her, as if determined to strip her bare.
Her heart started pounding again, and Felicity could only plead, "Mr. Harrington, please leave."
"Sorry to bother you." After a long pause, Alexander said coldly, turned around, and left.
It took Felicity several seconds to calm down and gently close the door before the tears fell.
It was all over.
She turned around, leaned against the door, and slowly locked it from behind. The scene reappeared in her mind.
She ran frantically, but Isabella's moans were still in her ears.
From last Christmas to today, so many days and nights, but she couldn't forget that scene, no matter what.
At 2 a.m., Felicity quietly left the room and went downstairs.
It was drizzling outside now. She stood for a couple of seconds and then walked into the rain.
Once she walked on the road, she had walked out.
What harm could a little rain do?
She had to weather much bigger storms.
However, at this moment, Alexander silently stood by the window of the study on the second floor.
There was no emotion in his eyes from beginning to end. At this moment, he really hated Felicity.
How could she be so heartless?
Being so polite to him, facing him with such a stranger's demeanor.
Felicity stopped after walking a bit because Mason caught up with her with an umbrella. He asked, "Madam, where are you going so late?"
Felicity said, "Leave me alone."
The night was deep, and she looked at Mason, feeling like it was a lifetime ago, but she could only say that.
"Mrs. Harrington, if you leave like this, how sad will they be?"
Mason could see Felicity was leaving.
Felicity didn't say anything more, just smiled and gently hugged his shoulder, saying, "Take care of yourself."
She was adamant on leaving.
After that hug, Mason couldn't stop her anymore, but he couldn't help but step forward. "Take the umbrella."
Felicity refused. "No, I'm young, and my clothes are already wet. You take the umbrella back, and I'll be at ease."
"Alright," Mason agreed.
Felicity continued walking. Even though her clothes were soaked, she didn't want to look back.
Life was too bitter. She had struggled to get to this point. Why would she want to look back?
By the time Felicity walked out of the Harrington Old Mansion, it had been more than half an hour. Dennis's car was waiting for her outside. Seeing her tired look as she got in, Dennis asked, "Isn't the grounds of this house a bit too big?"
Felicity didn't answer Dennis but just said, "Let's go."
She just picked up the towel Dennis had prepared in advance and started drying her hair.
It was just a light rain now, but she was still soaked.
There were umbrellas at the door, but she didn't stop by the umbrella stand. She didn't want to take anything related to the Harrington family.
From now on, she was on her own, of course, with her agent.
Felicity looked at Dennis driving and said, "Mr. Barnes, thank you."
Dennis said, "Why are you being so polite with me? Why don't you tell me about you and Alexander?"
Felicity gave a faint bitter smile
