Chapter 194 His Declaration to the World
Alexander's gaze descended upon Victoria, observing the subtle movements of her lips. It was a moment before she managed to whisper a soft plea, "Please, sit back down."
Reluctantly, Alexander complied, reclaiming his seat beside her.
It was only then that Victoria released her grip on his wrist. She felt a sense of disorientation as she clutched her glass, her gaze lingering on the crimson wine within. She found herself wondering if he derived pleasure from women yielding to him.
"Could you perhaps persuade your friends not to share those pictures they took online?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Her tone was sincere, almost timid, her eyes pleading.
Indeed, other than begging, she was left with no other choice.
She was, in her own way, quite charming.
Her parents, during their lifetime, had pampered her like a princess. How could she not have learned the art of charm?
However, as time passed, she nearly forgot how to wield that charm.
Now, she was merely displaying vulnerability.
In the hope of arousing his sympathy.
"Do you think I have any control over those trust fund brats?" Alexander retorted, his tone laced with pessimism.
"Of course, you do," she replied with conviction.
Who were these trust fund brats to defy his command?
She was well aware that his word was law among his circle.
"So much confidence in me?" Alexander leaned in closer, his eyes glinting with amusement as he studied her.
Victoria's heart fluttered, akin to fireworks exploding in her chest.
She wished this man would stop sending sparks her way..
Lowering her gaze, she could only murmur a quieter plea, "Please?"
"Look at me," he demanded, a pang of disappointment coursing through him as she averted her gaze.
He couldn't pinpoint when it started, but her warm, gentle eyes had ensnared him.
Yet, she always kept her gaze lowered, denying him the chance to witness the starlight that danced within them.
With a reluctant lift of her gaze, Victoria was about to look away once more when she felt Alexander's hand cradle the back of her head.
She looked up in surprise, feeling herself tilt backward, Alexander's tall figure leaning with her. His deep black eyes bore into hers with an intensity that often left her feeling unsteady. This time was no different.
She was clueless about his thoughts. It seemed she would never truly comprehend him.
But then, he leaned in closer, a hint of helplessness flickering in his gaze, and rested his forehead against hers, "Care for a drink?"
"No, no thank you." Drinking could lead to indiscretions.
Alexander smiled, took her glass, and drank from it. Victoria's gaze was drawn to the enticing movement of his Adam's apple, her heart...
Her heart felt as though it had plummeted into an abyss—dark and unfathomable. Yet, when she looked up, there was light.
She didn't know if she could claw her way out of that abyss. Even if she could, it might take a lifetime.
He set the glass back on the table and refocused his attention on her.
She pressed herself against the back of the sofa.
Once more, he touched his forehead to hers, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly before he spoke in a husky voice, "What if I said I can't hold back anymore?"
"Hold back from what?" Her voice was barely audible.
"From keeping our marriage a secret."
His words hung heavily in the air.
"Why would it be a secret? Your friends know, Jasmine knows, even the hotel staff..."
"Victoria, your husband wants the whole world to know," he said, a resigned smile playing on his lips, his sensuous voice enveloping her.
Victoria found herself at a loss for words.
Alexander's gaze fell on her lips, his resistance crumbling, and he claimed them with his once more.
He realized, aside from being entranced by the pure gentleness in her eyes, he was also utterly captivated by her lips.
