Chapter 723 Be My Secretary Again
At the hospital.
"Victoria?" Janaye looked confused when she saw Victoria, but then she felt a wave of relief, like seeing a family member.
"Janaye? What are you doing here?" Victoria was just as confused. How did they end up bumping into each other here?
"Victoria, what should I do?"
"What happened? Don't cry."
In the big lobby, Janaye's sudden sobbing caught everyone's attention.
Her eyes were puffy from crying. She walked up slowly, her voice trembling, "Victoria, did you come to find me? I'm pregnant."
"Being pregnant is a good thing. Don't cry."
Out of nowhere, Felix showed up and said, "Mrs. Harrington, maybe you should talk in the car."
Victoria turned to see Felix and asked, "Felix, why are you still here?"
Felix gave an awkward but polite smile.
The three of them got into the car.
Janaye cried even harder, "The doctor said I'm anemic and need to rest. I can't work anymore."
Victoria was shocked. "What?"
Janaye didn't look anemic at all.
"My mom had three miscarriages before she had me. Do you think it's hereditary?"
"No, just follow the doctor's advice and rest."
"But what about my job?" Janaye looked at her with teary eyes.
"Your job isn't as important as your baby. Family comes first."
"Yeah, Mr. Harrington has been wanting to fire me. Now he has a reason."
Janaye started crying in Victoria's arms again. Victoria patted her back, trying to comfort her, "Alright, don't cry. If you cry a lot, your baby might cry a lot too."
"Then I won't cry." Janaye sat up straight and quickly wiped her tears.
Felix handed over a tissue, which Victoria gave to her.
Janaye suddenly asked, "Victoria, can you come with me to the office? I'm scared."
"It's not appropriate for me to go. Where's Shoure? I'll call him for you," Victoria said.
"He just went abroad yesterday."
"Please, you don't know how harsh Mr. Harrington is to me. If you talk to him, maybe he won't be so hard on me. What if I get exhausted and miscarry? My mom had three miscarriages before she had me. I'm really scared I inherited that."
"We're divorced."
Why did everyone think her words still mattered to Alexander?
"Please!" Janaye kept shaking Victoria's arm, begging her.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the Harrington Group building.
Victoria looked up at the tall building. She never thought she'd be back here.
But knowing Alexander's ruthless work style, she decided to help Janaye.
Janaye pulled her inside.
Felix made a call and then drove off.
Ten minutes later, the door to Alexander's office opened.
As expected, Alexander was behind his desk, eyes on his computer. He said, "In that case, write your resignation letter."
Janaye glanced at Alexander, then clung to Victoria. "Victoria."
Alexander heard the name but didn't even look up, still focused on his computer. "If you want to cry, do it outside. This is an office."
"Victoria." Janaye gently tugged on Victoria's coat, whispering.
Victoria sighed, feeling a bit lost as she looked at Alexander's cold expression. She didn't know where to begin.
"If she has a miscarriage while working, can you take responsibility for that?" Alexander suddenly asked.
Janaye was taken aback, looking at him in confusion.
Victoria lowered her eyes, knowing she couldn't take on that responsibility.
Alexander spoke again, "Go out first."
Janaye hesitated, asking, "Should I go out?"
Alexander finally looked up, staring directly at Victoria. "What else?"
Janaye quickly lowered her eyes, let go of Victoria's sleeve, and timidly walked out.
Alexander glanced back at his computer. After hearing the door close, he waited a few seconds before turning to look at Victoria, who was standing not far away.
She was finally here again.
Alexander took a deep breath and asked, "What are you thinking?"
"What?" Victoria was genuinely confused by his question.
"Aren't you here to talk to me about Janaye?" Alexander asked seriously.
Victoria quickly lowered her eyes, saying, "Yes, but I can't take responsibility for her."
"At least you know that much. You're not completely foolish," Alexander said, looking at her.
Victoria met his gaze, thinking, 'You still think I'm a fool.'
"I have an idea. Want to hear it?" Alexander asked.
Victoria looked at him warily, but curiosity got the better of her.
Alexander got up, walked to the sofa, and gestured for her to join him.
He sat on a single sofa, and she sat on the edge of the long one.
She had gone to the hospital. If it weren't for running into Janaye...
Of course, if it weren't for running into Janaye, he wouldn't have really asked her to remove her womb.
But now, things had clearly changed.
Alexander looked at her thin face and said, "After you left, Grandma's blood pressure spiked, and she almost fainted."
Victoria instinctively looked up at him, her heart trembling.
Alexander continued, "I didn't expect you to be so heartless. Even though my mom and grandma begged you, you still insisted on leaving."
Victoria softly asked, "Are you blaming me?"
"Blaming? I'm just reminding you not to lose yourself. You need to respect and care for the elders," Alexander said.
"I can't care about that much. Between Strawberry and your family, I will choose Strawberry," Victoria said, lowering her eyes and smiling faintly.
She knew her words were hurtful, but she couldn't help it.
Eloise and Arabella both wanted to keep Strawberry at Metro House. She had no choice.
She could only make a choice.
The atmosphere in the office grew increasingly tense. Alexander looked at her determined expression, his eyes becoming sharper. He quickly got up, walked to the window, and after standing there for a while, he seriously said, "Victoria, I can't let Strawberry leave."
"Neither can I."
She knew they were both sticking to their opinions, neither willing to give in, but she had already prepared for the worst.
Alexander looked at the sea outside, then quickly turned to look at her before saying, "Victoria, maybe there's a way for us to have the best of both worlds."
Victoria's heart trembled, and she turned to look at him.
With the light behind him, his tall figure seemed imposing. She looked at him anxiously, waiting for him to continue.
He said, "You can be my secretary again."
