Chapter 674 Another Woman Was after Him
Alexander shot back, "Yeah, she's dead. If you want to get fired, I can make that happen."
Janaye was stunned, her eyes filling up with tears until they spilled over. She couldn't handle it, so she bolted out, clutching the documents like a lifeline.
Once she was gone, Alexander just cracked open another file and got back to work, not a care in the world.
Shoure came in with a list and immediately spotted Janaye crying at her desk. He rushed over, heart aching, and asked, "What happened? Did Mr. Harrington chew you out again?"
"Mr. Harrington said..." Janaye sobbed.
Shoure gently held her face, wiping away her tears. "Said what? Spill it before you start bawling."
Alexander walked out and saw the whole scene.
Janaye was crying so hard she could barely catch her breath, and Shoure was there, comforting her, just like Alexander used to do with Victoria.
"Mr. Harrington said Victoria is really dead," Janaye cried out, leaning on Shoure's shoulder like a lost kid.
Shoure patted her back, frowning in confusion. He glanced at Alexander, who was about to leave, and quickly reassured her, "He's messing with you. We'll talk later."
As soon as Alexander stepped into the elevator, Shoure followed but kept his distance, only daring to glance at him as the doors closed.
"Back off," Alexander said coldly.
Shoure thought, 'I was gonna tell him it's okay to cry if he's sad. No need to be so harsh on Janaye.'
But Alexander's icy tone made it clear he wasn't in the mood.
Shoure looked at him, puzzled, and finally asked, "Victoria's not dead."
"Really? Have you seen her?" Alexander shot back.
Shoure was speechless for a moment before he managed, "No, but I just know she's not."
Alexander turned to him, eyes full of arrogance, "Then where is she?"
That question left Shoure stumped.
Alexander's annoyed look confused Shoure even more. Just a few days ago, they were fine over the phone. Why was he acting like this now? Shouldn't they be closer after some time apart? Why did it feel like he was suddenly Alexander's enemy?
"Alexander, no matter what, Janaye is my girl," Shoure said.
Alexander sneered, "Speaking of you and Janaye, don't let me catch you two hugging in the office again, or you're both out."
"What?" Shoure was baffled.
"And there's a new rule: no office romances."
"What?"
As soon as the elevator doors opened, Alexander strode out without a second glance.
Shoure was left standing there, completely stunned. Did Alexander just ban office romances?
Their office had always been known for its friendly vibe, with social gatherings and all. Banning romances would kill that atmosphere. This new rule was gonna piss off a lot of couples.
Alexander had never cared about this stuff before. All he wanted was for everyone to do their jobs.
Shoure wondered what the heck had happened today.
Before he could figure it out, he remembered he had a document that needed approval and quickly ran out.
When Alexander stepped out, he spotted a girl standing there.
He knew her well. It was Daisy.
"Mr. Harrington, I want to have lunch with you," she said, trying to sound confident but coming off a bit shy.
Alexander stared at her for a good half-minute, then just turned and kept walking.
Daisy's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly followed, "If you don't say anything, I'll take that as a yes."
Shoure saw this as he ran out and was even more confused.
'What's going on? It's not even 11 AM, and they're talking about lunch? And is that Daisy? Alexander having lunch with Daisy? What the heck is happening? Could Victoria really be dead? No way. Last time I ran into one of Frank's guys, they said Frank left with Victoria. If Victoria's dead, wouldn't that mean Frank's dead too?
'But Frank was around a lot when Victoria was in the hospital. How could she die and still need someone to be buried with her? That's impossible. So, Victoria's not dead. Then...'
Shoure looked towards the restaurant they often went to.
It was still empty at this hour.
Alexander and Daisy sat by the window, facing each other.
Daisy was blushing, clearly nervous.
Alexander kept staring at her. After a few minutes, he glanced at his watch and said, "Got nothing to say?"
"I just wanted to have a meal with you," Daisy said, clutching her cup and looking down, too scared to meet his eyes.
"Ms. Bryant, don't you know that any woman who gets close to me ends up dead?"
Daisy quickly looked up, speechless.
She wasn't equipped to handle Alexander. She just followed her heart and found him. As for what to say, she had no clue.
But everyone said Victoria was dead, so she assumed it was true.
Her mom said if Victoria was really dead, things would be easier.
However, the Harrington family hadn't announced Victoria's death, making it hard to tell if she was dead or alive. The only sure thing was that Victoria had left the Harrington family.
Daisy thought quickly and replied, "It was an accident."
"Accident?" Alexander looked at her with a mocking smile.
"Yes, Isabella hated Victoria. I know that. They were always at each other's throats."
Alexander smiled coldly.
He didn't respond, so Daisy thought she had messed up and quickly looked down, "I mean, Mrs. Harrington died innocently, but Mr. Harrington deserves a new life too."
Alexander looked out the window, clearly frustrated.
Daisy gathered her courage and spoke up, "My mom said a lot of people want to marry into the Harrington family, so I wanted to speak for myself."
Alexander laughed but stayed indifferent.
Daisy felt he had changed. She thought he probably loved Victoria. She remembered at the Harrington Mansion, he held Victoria's hand in front of everyone and looked at her with such affection.
But now his eyes were cold, colder than winter.
His gaze was like a knife, cutting through her heart, but she couldn't help but take the risk, "Would you consider me?"
He smiled and said, "Yes."
"Really?" Daisy was surprised.
