Chapter 67 If You Initiate the Divorce, I'm Willing to Compensate You
At noon, Victoria called Adrian to say she couldn't go out for lunch because she suddenly needed to work overtime.
However, while she was working, the door at the top of the stairs opened.
She instinctively looked up and saw Isabella, dressed in a white knee-length dress, approaching.
Isabella walked towards her with a smile, "Haven't you gone for lunch yet? It just so happens I've brought some. Would you like to have lunch with us?"
"Mr. Harrington went out to dine with clients," Victoria had no choice but to tell her.
Isabella paused, realizing why she couldn't reach him on the phone. Was he avoiding her?
However, after looking at Victoria, Isabella quickly smiled again, "Well, if you don't mind, why don’t we eat together?"
Victoria looked at her; she obviously wasn’t interested.
"Please, take pity on me as a poor pregnant woman," Isabella immediately pleaded using her pregnancy as leverage.
Afterwards, the two had lunch in the break room when Isabella suddenly said, "Hey, these past few days, Alexander has been very cold to me. Do you know why?"
"How would I know?" Victoria was clueless.
"Of course, you wouldn't know. He gets irritated when he sees me close to someone else. I tell him it's just a platonic relationship, but he doesn't believe me," Isabella said, appearing sad.
Victoria realized they must have had an argument because of his jealousy. Yet he refused to admit it. What a truly despicable man.
"He's very sensitive and domineering. We were abroad discussing our wedding, but just because I was close to another man, a mutual friend, he got so angry that he even postponed the wedding. Victoria, can you help me? He sees you as a sister, so he will definitely listen to you."
Victoria could hardly believe what Isabella was saying. Alexander saw her as a sister? Even though she was only twenty-three years old, she wasn’t foolish. Would Alexander kiss her and hold her hand, even climb into her bed at midnight if he saw her as a sister?
But after what Isabella said, Victoria became more certain of her own thoughts. She wanted a divorce.
"If you initiate the divorce, I'm willing to give you whatever you want to make you feel better. By the way, I know you and Adrian are close. If you two end up together, I'll definitely send you a big gift when you marry," Isabella spoke earnestly.
While looking at the pregnant Isabella, Victoria suddenly felt annoyed.
"Adrian and I are just friends," Victoria said, planning to leave.
"Victoria, please, I'm begging you. Divorce Alexander; if not for me, then for the sake of the child in my womb. You wouldn't want a child to be born fatherless, right?" Isabella suddenly grabbed Victoria's hand tightly.
Victoria stared at her hand being held by Isabella. Isabella hadn't invited her to lunch. She wanted Victoria to end her marriage with Alexander.
Victoria immediately withdrew her hand; she did not appreciate Isabella's approach.
"Victoria?"
Isabella continued to pathetically try to shake off her attachment.
"Isabella?"
Benjamin, who had come to see Alexander, happened to walk in on them in the middle of it, as he knocked and entered the room. "What are you two doing together?"
"Oh, I came to have lunch with Alexander, but he had an engagement, so I ended up spending time with Victoria."
Upon seeing him arrive, Isabella quickly retracted her hand, even her emotions seemed to recede.
"I'll take my leave then."
Finally able to extricate herself, Victoria turned and nodded to Benjamin at the door before leaving.
Isabella remained sitting there forlornly, raising her hand to wipe under her eyes.
Benjamin stepped forward, noticing her tearful appearance, "What's wrong?"
"She seems like a gentle and easy-to-talk-to young lady."
Isabella choked up slightly, barely whispering.
Yet she looked as though she had suffered all sorts of grievances and slights.
