Chapter 290 His Pretense
"Our marriage has just begun," Alexander said softly.
The word "love" bore a weight too immense for him to utter carelessly. He held a firm belief in love, yet he was of the opinion that it was not a sentiment to be expressed flippantly. He had envisioned a scenario where a girl would fall for him, and in turn, he would reciprocate her feelings."You don't love me. Yet you don't want a divorce, too." Victoria puzzled.
"Yes," Alexander answered.
"You're strange." Victoria managed a strained smile, studying him with an intense gaze. She was unable to comprehend Alexander's peculiar behavior."Do you love me?" Alexander swiftly retorted."Initially, I was enamored by your looks," she confessed with a smile. On this profound night, she found herself under the intense scrutiny of Alexander, the man who had captured her heart at first glance. As he held her down, Victoria felt a sense of relief wash over her. She finally understood why she had fallen for him so swiftly. However, this realization also solidified her decision to bid this love adieu."Merely smitten by my looks?" Alexander wasn't sure whether to feel elated or disheartened by her confession, but a sense of disappointment crept into his heart.
"Yes." She agreed.
"Shouldn't you have been smitten by my physique as well?" Alexander asked again.
"I was," Victoria admitted."Really?" Alexander sought confirmation."I ceased pondering over it after your departure," Victoria responded."So, did I miss the best opportunity?" Alexander probed further."Undoubtedly, the wedding night presents the most opportune moment, but you opted to leave," Victoria retorted."The wedding night?" Alexander mused. In reality, they had yet to experience their wedding night.Suddenly, the words of Alexander's friends reverberated in his mind. They had suggested preparing groomsmen's outfits as he was genuinely about to wed Victoria."Let's hold a wedding," Alexander proposed.Victoria was at a loss for words. The morning was still young. Alexander and Victoria lay in each other's arms on the plush, comfortable bed. Alexander had uttered words he would normally refrain from saying..."I decline," Victoria rejected his proposal."You wish to part ways with me, to never lay eyes on me again, correct?" Alexander questioned."Indeed," Victoria responded with conviction."Are you delusional? Haven't you heard that men harbor a deep fascination for women they have yet to conquer?" Alexander challenged.Victoria fell silent. Was his interest in her solely because he hadn't claimed her yet? But if he discovered that she had already been... would he still accept her? After a brief struggle, Victoria softly asked, "What if I told you I'm no longer a maiden?""Is that so?" Alexander questioned, skepticism lacing his voice."Or, what if I revealed that I've been intimate with strangers at bars during the two years of your absence?" Victoria countered."I would need to verify it for myself," Alexander declared.Victoria was momentarily taken aback. Despite her revelations, he still desired to test the waters."Don't you value emotional purity?" Victoria challenged."Considering your infatuation with my appearance, how could you possibly have loved another man? Victoria, did you honestly think I would believe your every word?" He gently brushed his lips against hers, whispering, "If I had believed you, I wouldn't have personally gone to Danisland to investigate."He hadn't discovered anything. Victoria mused to herself, her defenses slightly lowering."Why not accept me? When I eventually tire, you can have the divorce papers you so desire," Alexander proposed. He tenderly kissed her lips once more, his hands exploring her slender waist. He reveled in the softness of her body; it was so supple and yielding. He yearned to make love to her."What do you say? Are you willing to give it a shot?" He attempted to entice Victoria.
