Chapter 729 The Warmth from Him, Tormenting
But then Alexander showed up at Victoria's place.
Everything went dead quiet.
He grabbed her wrist with one hand and the doorknob with the other, slowly shutting the door. He just stared down at her without saying a word.
Victoria's heart was racing, but she still looked at him, totally puzzled.
She had no clue what was going on in his head.
His deep eyes gave nothing away.
All she felt was the heat from his grip on her wrist. She looked down, trying to be humble, but eventually, she couldn't help but try to pull her hand away from his warm grasp.
But he just held on tighter.
The air around them felt like it froze.
The space that had felt kinda cozy now seemed cramped, and they were pressed against the wall in that tense atmosphere.
Victoria couldn't break free from his grip and finally glared at him, whispering, "You should leave."
He said, "Okay."
Victoria's heart skipped a beat; he actually agreed.
He agreed so calmly, yet he still didn't move.
Victoria regretted it; she shouldn't have agreed to stay on as his secretary.
Alexander had been in the business world for so long that he had become a cunning figure. It wouldn't be surprising if he took Strawberry away again at any moment.
His eyes could lie and bewitch people.
At this moment, his eyes, with a hint of pain, looked at her...
She remembered a time when he called her saying he missed her, remembered his friends saying he cried, and remembered...
She had to lower her eyes again, forcefully pulling her hand from his palm and placing it behind her back, "Goodbye."
Victoria was scared that she might mistakenly think he still had feelings for her and that she might fall for him again.
How many times did a woman fall in love with a man?
She absolutely wouldn't again.
She thought to herself, 'Victoria, you must stay calm.'
Alexander was a bit angry at himself for her avoiding gaze.
He was overly clear-headed at this moment, clear-headed to the point that he had to restrain himself to stand in front of her like a person. He couldn't mention anything, and couldn't ask anything.
He looked at her neat short hair and her sad face.
He said with a sorrowful tone, "Victoria."
Victoria didn't dare to look up, just staying close to the door.
Alexander moved closer again, and she instinctively turned her head to avoid him. But his warm body seemed to still want to hug her.
The warmth from him was torturous.
He said, "Goodbye."
Victoria said, "Goodbye."
Victoria kept her head down and never looked up again.
Until she felt her hair being gently brushed, she didn't look at him once.
Before leaving, Alexander glanced inside, then left her, opening the door and leaving.
The door was gently closed from the outside, and only then did Victoria dare to take a good breath, then continued to suppress herself.
She also looked into the room, then lowered her head and walked back.
Alexander said there was a single electric blanket on the bed...
She thought to herself, 'Victoria, stop expecting anything from him.'
Inside the club.
When Alexander arrived, Benjamin and Edward were already inside.
Edward asked him, "Why did you come out?"
"To have a drink." Alexander didn't explain, just found a glass and poured himself a drink.
"We thought you were unwilling to leave Victoria, so we didn't call you. So, from now on, our activities will be as usual?" Benjamin asked him.
"Sure." Alexander took a sip of his drink, responding thoughtfully.
Edward and Benjamin exchanged a glance, feeling that he was not being sincere.Benjamin gave a comforting smile, "I heard she’s back as your personal secretary. That’s gotta be a good start, right?"
Alexander took another sip of his drink, then just sat there, feeling a dull ache in his chest. He tried hard to push it down, not wanting to lose control.
But he really didn’t want to leave that little house.
He thought about how Victoria wouldn’t even look at him and downed his drink in one go.
'Why does she hate me so much now?' he wondered.
What right did she have to paint him as the bad guy, especially after keeping something as huge as Strawberry from him?
Frank and Eve said she went through a lot, but so what?
Now, she was the one tucking Strawberry in every night.
Alexander only got weekends, feeling like an outsider.
And still, Victoria seemed unsatisfied.
Her eyes, her whole vibe, screamed that she never wanted to see him again.
"Olivia said Victoria and Adrian probably don’t have a thing going on. She’s likely still single, so don’t stress too much," Edward chimed in, trying to comfort him.
Alexander poured himself another drink and suddenly smiled.
Benjamin and Edward exchanged confused looks.
"Of course she’s not single," Alexander said.
He took another drink, leaving Benjamin and Edward puzzled.
"You two signed the divorce papers, right?" Benjamin asked.
"Yeah," Alexander replied, holding his empty glass, his mind drifting back to the day he got those signed papers.
Adrian had delivered them personally.
That sense of suppression hit him again.
Adrian never gave up on her.
Edward asked, "Did you submit them?"
Alexander shot Edward a cold look, then reached for the bottle again.
"Alexander, this is important."
"So?" Alexander said, waiting for Edward to continue.
"So, is Victoria single now?" Edward pressed.
Victoria wore a ring that looked a lot like their wedding ring but wasn’t. So what was the deal with that ring?
If she and Alexander weren’t divorced, she couldn’t marry another guy.
Even if they got a marriage certificate, it’d be invalid.
It could even be bigamy.
Alexander thoughtfully raised his glass, staring at the drink for a long time before downing it in one gulp.
"The divorce papers are still in my office drawer," he said calmly.
Benjamin and Edward both held their breath, looking at him, suddenly speechless.
Alexander silently poured himself another drink.
Soon, someone knocked on the door, and Benjamin glanced over, saying, "Come in."
"Good evening, it’s snowing outside. Are you three still planning to leave?" the staff asked from the doorway.
"This bit of snow is no problem," Edward replied, glancing outside.
Alexander suddenly stood up and walked to the window.
Why was it snowing again?
"You guys continue; I’m heading out," he said, taking another drink, then putting down the glass and leaving.
Benjamin and Edward still sat there, looking at his empty glass. Edward said, "Is he going to find Victoria?"
Benjamin said confidently, "One hundred percent."
Edward asked again, "So, they haven’t actually divorced?"
Benjamin reminded, "The divorce papers are still in his drawer."
