Chapter 257 Rekindling the Past Feelings

Victoria's divorce agreement lay starkly on Alexander's office desk. There were no disputes over property, and no contention over custody. There was nothing, no lingering threads of their shared life.

Alexander, his voice a deep rumble, asked, "What did she say?" His gaze was fixed on the divorce papers, as if he could decipher some hidden message from the sterile pages.

"She said, 'We were lucky to have met each other,'" Joe replied, his discomfort palpable.

In the past, Alexander had always maintained a cool demeanor when plotting against those who crossed him. But this time, Joe sensed a difference. It was as if Alexander was genuinely caught off guard, ensnared in a trap of his own making.

Just as Joe was about to conclude that his boss was emotionally wounded, he saw Alexander's lips curve into a smile.

"Hmm, you can go now." Alexander didn't scold him.

Although Joe wanted to offer a few words of comfort, feared he might only add to Alexander's distress. So, he left the office.

The sentence following "We were lucky to have met each other" was a simple "Goodbye." Victoria had chosen this abrupt ending, devoid of any surprises.

Of late, Alexander had developed a habit of unconsciously spinning his wedding ring. He hadn't reached out to Victoria, and she, although curious about whether Alexander had signed the agreement, hadn't called him either.

The last time they had avoided each other's calls was two years ago. Would this time be any different? Alexander waited expectantly.---
In the Harrington family's old mansion grounds, Alexander parked his car directly in front of the gate.

"Mr. Alexander is back," the butler announced, greeting him at the entrance.

"Hmm," Alexander responded indifferently, tossing the keys to the butler before leisurely making his way inside.

In the living room, Madam was deep in conversation with Arabella. "Why do I feel like Vicky doesn't plan to come back?" she mused aloud.

"Maybe she really doesn't plan to. Recently, when Alexander came back, he was very intimate with Isabella. Maybe she doesn't want to stay here anymore," Arabella responded.

"Well, if Alex isn't in a hurry, we don't need to rush either. As long as Vicky is happy in Country M," Madam said thoughtfully.

"She must be happy. That's where she grew up," Arabella said.

"But her previous fiance is also in Country M. Will they rekindle the past feelings?" Madam asked, her tone laced with concern.

As the two women exchanged their thoughts, Alexander stood outside the room, a bitter taste in his mouth. When Victoria had left, he had mentioned that someone was waiting for her to come back. Hadn't she understood? Had Victoria really gone to find her previous fiance, the one he had worried might hurt her? If so, she didn't deserve his...

"Oh, is it Alexander?" Madam suddenly looked towards the entrance and asked.

Snapping back to reality, Alexander reluctantly walked in. "Yes, it's me. Your eyesight is really good."

"Hmph, of course, my eyesight is good, but unfortunately, you didn't inherit it," Madam said.

Alexander chose not to respond to the jibe and instead took a seat on the sofa.

Arabella turned to Alexander and asked, "Didn't you call Vicky?"

"You all know she doesn't plan to come back, so why should I call?" Alexander retorted, his fingers absently playing with his wedding ring.

Arabella and Madam noticed the wedding ring on his hand, and Madam chuckled, "Vicky's already left. Why are you still wearing that thing?"

"Vicky personally put it on me. How dare I take it off?" Alexander shot back, feigning annoyance.

Arabella and Madam exchanged glances, their curiosity piqued. "Did Vicky give you a ring?" Arabella asked.

"Our Vicky has wanted to kick you out for a long time. Don't try to deceive us," Madam added.

"If you don't believe me, call her and ask," Alexander said.

"Fine, I'll call her directly on video and let you confront each other," Madam declared defiantly, immediately dialing Victoria on her phone. Alexander, his gaze lowered, quickly rose from his seat.
