Chapter321 His Willing Deception
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the crowd, a young woman who strode confidently towards the stage, her voice echoing through the hall.
"Mr. Harrington, it seems you are unaware that your wife was violated in Elysium," she declared, her tone imbued with a sense of righteousness that seemed to radiate from her very being.
A ripple of murmurs spread through the banquet hall as all eyes turned to the audacious girl. She approached the stage, her voice steady, "I have some photographs I wish to share with everyone."
"Please, hold on a moment," Alexander interjected, his voice resonating through the microphone.
The girl's gaze snapped towards the man standing on the elevated platform, her heart pounding in her chest. She steeled herself before continuing, "Mr. Harrington, your wife has deceived you."
"If she has chosen to deceive me, then I am willingly deceived by her," Alexander replied, his voice gentle as he held Victoria's hand. His gaze turned to her, his eyes soft.
Victoria had been on edge, the fear of her violation being exposed in such a public setting gnawing at her. But as she met Alexander's gaze, her fear began to ebb away. She needed to be brave, to tell him the truth and bid him a proper farewell.
After locking eyes with Victoria, Alexander turned his attention back to the girl.
"You claim my wife was violated in Elysium, how do you know of an event that occurred so long ago?" Alexander questioned.
"I heard about it, and I obtained two photographs of Mrs. Harrington in bed with that man," the girl responded, her nerves evident but her answer prepared.
"Is this merely hearsay? How did you get these photographs? Who are you?" Alexander pressed.
"I am just an advocate for justice and honesty," the girl replied, her nerves betraying her despite her rehearsed response.
"Ah, a champion of justice, I see. But why would a champion of justice seek to tarnish such an important occasion? Are you trying to control the narrative? Do you think I, as her husband, would be unaware of my wife's experiences abroad? You underestimate me," Alexander retorted, his voice steady but his expression hardening.
The girl felt a surge of panic. She cast a quick, desperate glance around the banquet hall.
"Do you wish to smear my wife's reputation with just two photographs? Is it not common knowledge how easily photographs can be manipulated these days?" Alexander continued, his gaze sweeping over the crowd with an air of authority.
"These aren't forgeries," the girl protested.
"Are you certain? An unknown woman appears out of nowhere on such a day to slander my wife. I have reason to believe she is acting under someone's orders. I will hand her over to the police for questioning," Alexander stated, his gaze shifting towards the entrance where security personnel stood at the ready.
"Mr. Harrington, your wife's reputation is indeed tarnished. Please, believe me," the girl pleaded, her voice echoing through the hall.
Isabella watched the exchange, baffled as to why Alexander didn't doubt Victoria after hearing the girl's accusations. Why did he dismiss the photographs as forgeries without even glancing at them?
Isabella's gaze met her mother's.
Naomi rose from her seat, her voice cutting through the silence, "I would like to ask Mr. Harrington. Isn't it rather presumptuous to dismiss the photographs as forgeries and hand this girl over to the police without even examining them?"
"Presumptuous? If I were to believe every piece of gossip that dared to slander my family, what right would I have to stand here, unable to protect my own family?" Alexander's icy blue eyes narrowed as he surveyed the crowd below.
Victoria's gaze shifted from Naomi to Alexander, her heart pounding in her chest.
