Chapter 30 Equal Rights

The driver stepped aside. His tall figure stood in front of her, as if he was going to help her out. Of course, he was just being polite, but she didn't have the courage to give him her hand. So, she just smiled, "Thank you."
She didn't reach out. Under his gaze, she kept her head down, pressing against the fabric of her dress as she got out of the car. The driver quickly circled back around to drive the car away and wait for them to come out.
Alexander stood against the wind, looking at her. But she didn't lift her head; she just spoke to him so gently and cautiously. "Let's go. It's late, and Grandma will get tired if she waits too long." She passed by him first.
He finally dropped his hand and laughed at himself unconsciously. Who said she liked him? Alexander turned around, took large strides, and quickly caught up to walk beside her.
Victoria couldn't accept it in her heart. Even though she couldn't stop her heart from longing for him, she couldn't accept any physical contact with him. He... Yes, he belonged to another woman. That woman had just asked her to take him home early.
When they first met, they could greet each other and chat casually, but later... This marriage created a distance between them. They had always been husband and wife in name only, and that wouldn't change now. Moreover, she was certain that they would divorce, and it wouldn't take long.
Isabella was pregnant. It wasn't noticeable in the first three months, but it would become more and more obvious later. Given Isabella's personality, she probably wouldn't let him delay for too long. And him? What was he thinking?
Victoria couldn't help but wonder what was going on in his mind.
——
"Old Lady Harrington just fell asleep not long ago. She said before she went to bed that she would be happy to know that you two had come. You should go home early," the caregiver who was looking after Old Lady Harrington told them outside the door.
Victoria turned to look at the man next to her. Alexander lowered his head slightly, let the caregiver leave, and then looked at her, "Then let's go back."
"Okay," she naturally couldn't wake up a sleeping sweet old lady. And... he should be in a hurry to go back to see another person.
When they went downstairs again, she still walked in front. He was by her side but still probably a step and a half away. They always maintained such a distance. She had called in advance, so when they reached the hospital entrance, the driver had already parked the car.
His phone rang, and so did hers.
Alexander glanced at her, then stood outside the car to answer the phone, "Hello? Haven't you gone to bed yet?"Victoria also stood outside the car, looking at the incoming phone number. She suddenly remembered something important and quickly answered the phone, "Hello? I'm sorry; I forgot."
"Where are you now? There are fifteen minutes left until the last song.""I'm at the city hospital.""You hurry over here now; I'll wait for you at the door."The person on the phone finished speaking and hung up.
Victoria looked both ways, but at this hour, there weren't many taxis around.
Alexander glanced at her, "Aren't you getting in the car? What are you looking for?"
"I'm sorry; I can't go back with you. Don't forget that Miss Montgomery asked you to accompany her," she said as she backed away.
Alexander furrowed his brows, "Where are you going this late?" She was backing away, getting further and further from him.
"I'm going to a concert. I promised a friend. Don't forget about Miss Montgomery. Goodbye," she saw a taxi slowly driving up and was about to run over.
"Where are you going?" Unexpectedly, her slender wrist was suddenly grabbed by a warm and strong hand. She looked at the hand that was holding her in confusion, then looked up, "Alexander, I'm off duty right now."
"The boss is not off duty, so how can a secretary be off duty. Get in the car." he said, leaving no room for refusal.
"But..."
"Tell the driver where to go." After Victoria got in the car and saw his tall figure squeeze in, she was about to get anxious when he suddenly spoke.
"Stadium." Victoria immediately turned to tell the driver.
Alexander just kept staring at her for a long time. For some reason, he suddenly felt that that person seemed very important to her. So important that he, her husband, had to step aside.
The car quickly arrived at the stadium. Victoria ran into the stadium. There was a staff member waiting for her outside the venue. It was a woman. As soon as they met, they held hands and ran inside.
"Mr. Harrington, are you leaving?"
