Chapter 914 I Don't Care

"But I want to stay."

Eloise was worried that Alexander's eye condition might worsen, so she didn't dare to leave.

Arabella stepped forward to support Eloise and whispered, "Mom, let's go back first. You need to take care of yourself, and he'll probably get better too."

"But I..."

Eloise just wanted to keep an eye on Alexander.

"Didn't Alexander say he only wants Victoria? If you stay here, it might make him unhappy." Arabella reiterated.

Eloise finally stood up slowly, "Victoria, please take good care of him. I'm counting on you."

"Okay, you and Mom should go home and rest early. Don't worry about things here."

"With you saying that, I can leave with a sense of peace."

Eloise said, looking at Alexander with concern one last time. She felt a bit sad but had no choice but to leave.

After stepping out, Eloise walked a bit with Arabella's support before asking her to let go. She stood quietly and suddenly asked, "Is Alex really... unable to see?"

"Of course he is."

Arabella held Eloise's arm and said seriously.

Eloise, puzzled, slowly walked forward with Arabella.

Victoria thought it was good for the elders to leave. With everyone gone, she felt more at ease and free. After closing the door, she turned around and stood by the bed. "I'll find a caregiver for you."

"What?"

"I said I'll find the best caregiver for you."

"I can't hear you. Come closer and say it."

Alexander reached out his hand.

Victoria looked at his outstretched hand, her heart suddenly racing.

He couldn't see clearly and couldn't hear either.

Could he have some lasting effects?

"Tori?"

Alexander called her again.

Victoria snapped back to reality and slowly walked over. She just held his wrist, intending to put his hand back on the bed, but he grabbed her hand forcefully. "Are you afraid that if I go blind and deaf, you'll be forced to take care of me?"

"How could that be? Ms. Bryant is younger and prettier than me and knows how to take care of you. You'd only want her to take care of you."

Victoria tried to push his hand away but couldn't and didn't back down from the question.

"What Ms. Bryant?"

Alexander asked Victoria.

Victoria looked up at him, feeling inexplicably uncomfortable with his question.

He might not be good at other things, but he was good at playing dumb.

But it was good that he was awake.

Thinking this, Victoria stared seriously at Alexander and explained, "Ms. Bryant, who was with you during the accident? I heard she's awake now and is clamoring to see you and take care of you."

"You're jealous." He said weakly.

Victoria felt a bit uncomfortable hearing that. She walked to the window, looked at the blazing sun outside, and remarked, "After all this time, what is there to be jealous of? In my heart, you were already dead."

Victoria thought she was being too heartless.

Otherwise, how could she say such things when he was so weak?

But she had to say it.

She didn't want any more entanglements between them.

Even if she stayed to take care of him, she wanted him to know that she wasn't feeling sorry for him, she wanted him to know that she felt no pity for him, nor was she concerned; she was just fulfilling her duty as a wife.

If someone came to replace her, she would leave immediately.

"Tori, don't stay too far from me. I can't hear you."

Alexander called out to Victoria, explaining.

Victoria turned to look at Alexander. Whether it was the blazing sun or something else, she couldn't see him.

If one of them had to go blind or deaf, she would rather it be her.

Victoria's chin quivered as she fought to suppress her anger, but a wave of upset washed over her.

She had a sense of that he was pretending to be unable to see, pretending to be unable to hear.

She wanted to argue with him, to debate.

Why did he suddenly become like this?

Usually, she was the one lying in bed unable to move. Why was it him this time?

All her unhappiness quickly turned into grievance, but she had to swallow it back.

Victoria stood there silently, then walked over and sat quietly on the edge of the bed, lowering her head, with only her hands quietly entangled.

But Alexander said again.

"Don't pick at your hands."

Victoria didn't make a sound, but tears suddenly fell, landing on her reddened hands.

Someone knocked on the door from outside. Victoria wiped her tears and got up to open the door.

"Mrs. Harrington, we heard Mr. Harrington woke up, so we came to see him."

Victoria slowly lowered her eyes from Ursa's face and looked at Daisy, who was sitting in a wheelchair pushed by Ursa.

Daisy looked more injured than Alexander.

It was claimed that Daisy was mimicking her in appearance, voice, and style, but after seeing her today, Victoria sensed a fundamental difference.

If Alexander said he mistook her for someone else, it must have been an excuse.

Daisy had bandages wrapped around her head and looked weak. She barely glanced at Victoria before looking past her, "The accident happened in my car. I have a responsibility to Mr. Harrington. Please let me see him."

Victoria didn't speak but quickly let go of the door handle and stepped aside.

"Don't come any closer."

Alexander slowly sat up in bed, giving an irrefutable order.

Ursa immediately stopped. Jerome had reminded her before coming not to go against Alexander.

Daisy, however, was in tears, "It was my fault that night. I shouldn't have taken you in my car. Then you wouldn't have been in the accident with me. I deserve to die for letting you get hurt like this."

"Get out." Alexander scolded

.

"All of Mr. Harrington's hospital expenses will be covered by our family. We wish Mr. Harrington a speedy recovery. I'll take Daisy away now."

Ursa expressed politely and was about to push Daisy out.

Daisy, however, held onto the switch and looked at Alexander on the bed, "I'm very worried about you."

She said this tearfully and with great restraint.

It was as if she were his lover.

Alexander only found it amusing.

That night, he had groggily gotten into her car just to clarify things with her, but before he could say anything, the accident happened.

"Thank you, but it's not necessary."

Alexander reminded her emotionlessly.

"Let's go back. Mrs. Harrington is here."

Ursa whispered to Daisy as if some things were better left unsaid in front of Victoria.

Victoria listened silently, pretending to be invisible.

She wanted them to stay and take care of Alexander, but it seemed they didn't have the guts.

"Mrs. Harrington, can I come and talk to Mr. Harrington?"

"Sure, I don't mind."

Victoria replied indifferently from the doorway.

At that moment, Victoria wished someone would take over caring for Alexander.

"Really?"

Daisy gripped the armrest, looking like she was about to stand up.
