Chapter 226 The Harrington Family's Fate

Naomi's gaze settled on Alexander, her voice steady yet filled with accusation. "Alexander, some things can be denied, but these matters concern Isabella's honor."

"Is our daughter's honor of importance, but not that of my son and his wife?" Arabella retorted.

"Do you dare to swear that the child is not yours?" Naomi challenged.

"Why should I swear to you?" Alexander's voice remained calm, his eyes shifting to Victoria. "I can swear to you, Victoria. If that child is mine, our Harrington family will cease to exist."

Victoria was left speechless, stunned by the severity of his oath. Even Madam and Arabella were momentarily taken aback. Who would swear against their own family? But they quickly regained their composure.

Naomi struggled to comprehend his words. "Alexander, is it worth sacrificing our entire family for this woman? She's nothing more than a wild girl who grew up abroad. Are you truly so foolish? Just like us... Ah!"

A sharp smack echoed through the room. Naomi's cheek flamed with the sting of Arabella's slap.

"Watch your mouth," Arabella commanded, her voice clear and resolute. She glanced at Victoria's swollen face, regretting her earlier gentleness.

"Arabella, have you lost your mind? Did you hit me?" Naomi was in shock. The physical pain was nothing compared to the burning humiliation.

"It was well deserved," Madam interjected, her voice filled with satisfaction. "People who tarnish young girls' reputations without cause deserve to be taught a lesson."

"How dare you humiliate me for that little wretch? You..."

"She is Mrs. Harrington of Harrington Company, my wife," Alexander interrupted, his voice icy. "The Harrington Company and the Montgomery family have always been rivals, but we have always maintained mutual respect. If you wish to shatter that principle, I am prepared to defend it."

Naomi's heart quivered at his words. She had heard rumors that the Harrington Company's wealth and influence had surpassed that of the Montgomery Company. She never thought she would witness it firsthand.

Victoria was in disbelief. Was Alexander truly defending her? How had he changed so suddenly? If Isabella's child wasn't his, then what was the truth of their relationship? She couldn't continue her train of thought, her heart filled with a warmth she hadn't felt before.

"So, my daughter's miscarriage was in vain?" Naomi asked, her voice filled with bitterness.

"How is it 'just' a miscarriage? At least she doesn't have to parade around pregnant, searching for the father," Arabella retorted.

Naomi cradled her bruised face, the pain intensifying. The Harrington family was simply unreasonable. She had always known Arabella to be heartless, but experiencing it firsthand was a different matter. Naomi had always been treated with respect, but the Harrington family had never given her the time of day.

"Alright, continue to slander my daughter. The Harrington family's power and influence is something we can't afford to provoke. We'll just have to consider our daughter unfortunate," Naomi conceded.

She glanced at Arabella, then at Alexander, her gaze finally resting on Victoria. A bitter smile before turning around and leaving.
