Chapter 739 Dazed

Alexander felt like Victoria had a grip on his heart. But every time he tried to get closer, he pulled back and returned to his seat.

He just couldn't do it.

He couldn't risk giving his heart to her, only to have it crushed.

Victoria sat there, not daring to provoke him any further.

She kept quiet, trying to make herself as invisible as possible.

Even Felix was too scared to speak. When they got home and parked the car, he stayed put.

Alexander had already opened the car door and stepped out. Felix watched him through the side mirror, worried Alexander might lose his temper again.

But Alexander quickly walked to the other side.

When Victoria opened her car door, she found him blocking her way before she could get out.

She held the door handle and looked up, seeing Alexander towering over her. Her heart raced, and she lowered her eyes to hide her flustered emotions.

Alexander gripped the top of the car door, pulling it open wider.

As Victoria stepped out, he naturally grabbed her arm.

It seemed like he was helping her.

When Victoria stood up, she reflexively looked at the hand holding her arm, then looked at him.

She just wanted to ask why he was helping her. She could stand up on her own.

Alexander didn't say anything, just silently watched her. Once she was steady, he let go.

"Thank you," Victoria said softly, feeling uneasy, and then walked inside with her head down.

Alexander closed the car door, gave a bitter smile, and turned to follow her.

The night wind was so strong it seemed like it could blow people away at any moment.

Victoria reached the door and suddenly turned around. She immediately took two steps back and said, "Sorry, I forgot my bag."

Alexander just stared at her.

She didn't know that her sudden turn almost made her crash into his heart.

He heard the pounding of his own heart but continued to look at her coldly.

Felix quickly ran over with her bag and said in a polite tone, "Mrs. Harrington, your bag."

"Thank you."

Victoria immediately reached out to take it, then instinctively glanced at Alexander before turning to continue inside.

Alexander still followed her at a leisurely pace.

As soon as they entered the house, they heard joyful voices inside.

Eloise was amusing Strawberry and said with a slight smile, "Come and see, Strawberry is smiling at me. She is so beautiful. Arabella, you must buy that gemstone pendant I mentioned last time for Strawberry. I won't be able to sleep well until I see her wearing it."

Seeing Eloise so excited, Maximus asked curiously, "What gemstone?"

"The antique shop we visited last time mentioned it. They said there's a stunning gemstone out there, worth a fortune, and it can bring safety."

Arabella explained to Maximus.

"I really want to find all the good things in the world for Strawberry to play with."

Eloise held Strawberry's hand and liked the child more and more as she looked at her.

"Mr. Alexander Harrington and Mrs. Victoria Harrington are back."

Erica came out with some fruit and greeted them when she saw them return.

Victoria nodded politely, while Alexander stood beside her, looking towards the cradle by the sofa.

"Why are you two back so late? We've been waiting for you."

Arabella immediately questioned them when she saw them return, then noticed the marks on Victoria's neck. Uncertain, she waved and said, "Victoria, come sit here."

"Okay."

Victoria agreed good-naturedly, letting Arabella lead her to sit beside her.

"The breast milk you left in the fridge this morning is all gone. Feed Strawberry after dinner."

"Okay." Victoria nodded and leaned over to check on Strawberry in the cradle.

The baby was decked out in pink from head to toe, even her hat and jewelry.

Alexander sat down next to Victoria, leaned over to look at Strawberry, and asked, "This jewelry isn't going to hurt her, right?"

Eloise shot back, "Do you think I'd let anything hurt my great-granddaughter?"

Alexander frowned, confused. He was just worried about the jewelry being uncomfortable for his daughter.

"Relax, we've been watching her all day. She's fine," Arabella reassured him.

Only then did Alexander feel at ease. He couldn't help but smile at Strawberry.

Victoria saw the way he looked at Strawberry and quickly lowered her eyes.

Arabella noticed the marks on Victoria's neck and took her hand, saying, "Next week, let's throw a Welcome Baby Party for Strawberry. We can also clear up the misunderstanding about your divorce. What do you think?"

Victoria's mouth moved, but no words came out.

She looked to Alexander for help.

After all, they were already divorced.

"Victoria, if you're worried, Brett and I can transfer all our assets to your name," Eloise said, placing a comforting hand on Victoria's shoulder.

"I don't need your assets. Our divorce is a fact. What is there to clear up?" Victoria knew the elders wanted them to reconcile, but she didn't know how to fix things.

"Alexander, did you divorce Victoria or not? Stop making us guess," Maximus asked directly, seeing that Victoria was still unclear about the truth.

Alexander needed to give everyone an explanation, especially Victoria.

Victoria looked at Alexander again.

Alexander also looked at Victoria, but before he could speak, Victoria's phone suddenly rang. Afraid of startling Strawberry, she quickly picked it up.

Seeing it was Daisy, she hesitated for a second, then said, "Please hold on."

"Sorry, I need to take this call," Victoria requested.

"Go ahead."

Since everyone was speaking softly, it wasn't the best place for a call.

But after Victoria left, Arabella couldn't help but mutter, "It seems like it's Daisy calling. Why is she calling Victoria?"

After saying this, Arabella looked at Alexander, and everyone else followed suit.

Alexander, however, was watching Victoria's back as she went to take the call.

"I heard Daisy was in your office for a long time today. Victoria has finally come back. If you still want this family, you better not mess around," Eloise immediately reminded Alexander.

"Say something. Now that you have a child, if you don't take responsibility, we won't let you off," Brett said angrily, his voice hoarse.

"There's nothing between Daisy and me," Alexander said as he stood up.

Under everyone's puzzled gaze, he took long strides in the direction Victoria had gone.

"Where does he usually stay?" Victoria was in the bathroom, leaning against the sink while on the phone. Hearing Daisy ask about his private matters, she, as a secretary, couldn't casually disclose her boss's secrets. She said what she could.

When Alexander pushed the door open, he saw Victoria leaning against the sink, looking very tired. Her phone was on the sink. He quietly closed the door and walked closer.

When Victoria heard the sound, she saw his black leather shoes out of the corner of her eye. She slowly raised her eyes, from his black trousers to his white shirt, and finally to his strikingly handsome face.

At that moment, she felt a bit dazed.

"Whose call is it?" he asked, stopping beside her and casually picking up her phone.

Victoria didn't fight for it, nor did she care. She said with a soft smile, "Ms. Bryant."
